Most of the few dogs I've encountered on The Playa were not on leashes. Their owners appearently belived that shouting angry commands to the animals *after* they had annoyed people (if they even noticed), was having their dog "under control". While I don't always object to being snuffled and slobber...

What I don't understand is how a camp can be filled to capacity and have no room for one more person... I'm envisioning no walking space between dome tents; cars crumpelled togther to save space; Tents and RV's ready to burst, if one more person enters... What I also don't understand is why there ar...

There is actually not much compostable stuff. We use pre-shelled frozen packages of eggs, and we found out that fruit is prohibitively expensive. We'll have bagles or bread-like stuff, paper plates, and biodegradable corn-starch "silverwhere". But you can still help if you want. I've had several res...

Actually, that's "my country, 'tis of *thee*" (... of thee I sing), and the fun it pokes, is that we're singing about the country, not a monarch (as in God Save The Queen/King, or whoever happens to be on the throne) But if you do sing, don't forget the verse about Marshal Wade and "...Rebelious Sco...

So, it's really pretty easy. We use what the scout camps use - plastic bags of pre-shelled eggs - frozen until cooked. We have biodradable "plastic" silverware, and paper plates. Cleanup is simply collecting the trash and packing it for the trip home. It's a couple of hours of socializing, while mon...

Naked Brunch needs volunteers
The Naked Brunch - which made it's debut last year on The Playa, feeding 190 naked people - needs a few volunteers or it can't happen again this year. My usual help-mates aren't going this time... This would be a one-shot feeding frenzy, on Wednesday or Thursday around noon. I need some help setting...

Naked Brunch
Hi, I'm Nodule, in Corvallis. Last year I co-hosted The Naked Brunch on the Playa and we fed 190 naked people. This year, all my friends are flaking out. I'd like to repeat the brunch, but it needs a few volunteers to help set up, cook, and clean up. I'm shooting for Wednesday, noonish. Is anyone in...

OK, so scooters aren't art cars - that's partly becuase, like bicycles, they aren't cars... If undecorated bicycles are riding around, why not scooters? Sure, everything is better at Burning man when decorated, but should it be *required*? Where do scooters fall on the evolutionary scale from bikes ...

My theatre friends tell me that a stage doesn't have to be a rectangle - it can be T shaped, or V shaped, etc. to give you traveling room, but also save on materials. That said, I built a small 4X8 stage last year, that doubled as a carrying cart (just flip it over and add a couple of wheel assembli...

muffler?
I also have no direct experience, but someone said the best thing to quit a generator is to put an old car muffler on it.
I'll be experimenting with that, and these other ideas, before August.

I've found more than enough variety in this type of food to keep me happy, but I do bring more than I need, so I can have what I'm in the mood for, and not just what's left on the shelf. Anything you can just add boiling water to is a quick easy way to stay fed. I like some of the instant potato cup...

Volunteering: I think figuring $1.50/hour as "compsensation" is inacurate. Figure the first hours at minimum wage, until the ticket is paid for. Any work beyond that qualifies as volunteering. Searches: It's strange that I'd object vehimently to a police search, but have no problem with gate staff -...

I like it, but you've missed an important part of the Burning Man complaint process. Complaints shouldn't be simply ignored, they need to be turned back on the complainer to tell them that it's all their own fault. It also helps to whine about how busting ass building and maintaining the city should...

Themes
I've always felt that the broader a theme is the better. The more room for bizarre tangents and unthought of connections, the better it has done it's job. Of course, the best theme would be none at all, but failing that, it is always within our power to broaden it, satirize it, or ignore it.

I witnessed no problems with street signs (which were on the corners), only with the pole that was smack in the middle of Absurd, at Creed (at the entrance to Absurd Plaza). I assume it, and others like it, were put there to discourage ...

Ardust and Ivy are correct. The sign posts that were in the middle of the road, on Creed (and maybe elsewhere, I don't know) became major hazards once the signs were stolen. I was camped within 50 feet of one, and once the sign was gone (stolen by someone in a white golf cart, at that), I witnessed ...

For those who don't yet know, the fatality had nothing to do with not being seen. The woman stepped off the art car, somehow fell backward, and was run over by the trailer. As for this discusion, anyone who drives a vehicle or a bicycle into a person they didn't see, is driving or riding unsafely. T...
