Re: Returning Volunteer, wondering about perks

If you are volunteering this year, you need to speak directly with your Volunteer Coordinator about this issue. You won't see anything on an open forum.

Re: 10 Yr Environmental Impact Statement (Includes Relating to Culture)

Or perhaps the BMOrg subsidizes the existing solid waste transfer station near Gerlach, funding several staff positions to keep the normally closed station open on the Labor Day weekend, and renting a sufficient number of roll off dumpsters. Dumping fees would be kept low enough to encourage folks t...

Re: 10 Yr Environmental Impact Statement (Includes Relating to Culture)

So..... if the BMOrg says "Fuck it!" and walks away from the event, the EIS is a moot point. There will be no closure order (although BLM may invent some compelling reason, like endangered fairy shrimp) and the playa will be opened up to the general public for any legal use, much the same as it is t...

It's time to institute the "Accoutabilibuddy" program on the playa. Every virgin will have a buddy to monitor thier adherance to the pricipals. Failure of the accoutabilibuddy will incure cruel and unusual punishments!!! Actually that's not a bad idea. I have always supported the idea that every Bu...

Re: Bus/RV insurance

If you have any roadside assistance plan, read the fine print, and call the company if you don't understand it. If you break down or get hopelessly stuck on the playa, many plans won't cover you because the "vehicle was intentionally driven off road" or it was more than X number of feet from a paved...

I'm trying to wrap my head around this.... A person who has been unable to obtain a ticket through the normal methods, buys into an expensive p-n-p camp primarily to get a DGS ticket?

I guess I underestimate how desperate some people are to attend a dusty event in the Black Rock Desert.

Re: My favorite video (today) thread

The parallels to the "tourists" climbing Mount Everest and the p-n-p playa tourists are amazing. (well, maybe except for the accumulating frozen dead bodies) Even the poor sherpas are exploited. And their "org" (national government) is glad to generate revenue from the tourist trade. https://youtu.b...

Getting permission to use any non-pedal equipped transportation with more than 3 wheels may be problematic in trying to haul your gear around. So a golf cart or utility vehicle with no disability placard may be out.

All through the description of amenities and services provided, the form keeps repeating "We are not a plug and play camp" . If this isn't a PnP, I would like to see what is. Of particular interest is the surcharge/donation for people bringing their own RV's to provide their own housing. I guess the...

Tatonka-when you have a military numbering in the millions, it's easy to sort out the lookers, right down to matching cup size and height, for your marching squads. They have a remarkable similarity in the appearance of the marchers, so much so, that at first I thought it was CGI.

ePlaya board activity

Where are the low points on the bell curve of ePlaya activity? During this past summer I made it up to the playa and saw the 747 upper chassis in storage in Empire, being used as a cover for hundreds of rusting bikes. Now, that was impressive!

I had one of these, but it stowed as about an 18' diameter circle. It was a pain the ass to fold up, but worked really well on top of an Army cot. No way is it even close to dust proof, so definitely not playa-ready.

I was at the Black Rock Observatory one dark night in 2016 when they had a night jump. Dry ice in a plastic bucket cooler will probably end up with a shattered bucket, and there goes your cooling system.....but you won't notice, having already asphyxiated due to oxygen displacement by carbon dioxide gas.

I don't think Hell Station is an option for campers not operating a mutant vehicle, an org vehicle like a fire truck or DPW, or some other permitted operation. I don't think they want people driving all the way out there in their POVs just to get 5 gallons at a time for their personal generators.

Simon--- I love the altered Mack Bolan-Executioner book cover. I read every book in the early days of the series {pre-Stony Man) back in the 70s when I was a bored soldier in Uncle Sam's service.
