Re: Suitable bag for pop-up tent

I had one of these, but it stowed as about an 18' diameter circle. It was a pain the ass to fold up, but worked really well on top of an Army cot. No way is it even close to dust proof, so definitely not playa-ready.

Re: Skydivers???? Where you at?

I was at the Black Rock Observatory one dark night in 2016 when they had a night jump. The skydivers had some sort of sparkly pyrotechnic device, but in the dark sky all you could see was a trail of sparks. The astronomers were almost jizzing in their pants, thinking they had spotted some sort of su...

Re: Dry Ice in a FigJam?

Dry ice in a plastic bucket cooler will probably end up with a shattered bucket, and there goes your cooling system.....but you won't notice, having already asphyxiated due to oxygen displacement by carbon dioxide gas.

I don't think Hell Station is an option for campers not operating a mutant vehicle, an org vehicle like a fire truck or DPW, or some other permitted operation. I don't think they want people driving all the way out there in their POVs just to get 5 gallons at a time for their personal generators.

Your water supply must be scrupulously clean to avoid potential growth of Legionella. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warn that people can get Legionnaires’ disease or Pontiac fever when they breathe in small droplets of water in the air that contain the bacteria. Cooling misters that...

Re: Well I’m going to Honda route

I have the modified fuel filler caps on both of my parallel connected Honda 2000i's and have them plumbed to a marine fuel tank. I carry one spare 5 gallon gas can, but don't remember the marine tank ever running out. The trick for best performance of the remote fuel system is to fill the generator'...

Simon--- I love the altered Mack Bolan-Executioner book cover. I read every book in the early days of the series {pre-Stony Man) back in the 70s when I was a bored soldier in Uncle Sam's service.

Re: Electric Bike Conversion Basics.

I'm almost 64 now and a little lame, so I got the top of the line trike kit from e-bikes a few years ago. They are costing right at $1000 now. It comes with a wheel and hub assembly, li-ion battery, 110 volt charger, and all the control components.. Since my trike is now primarily front wheel drive,...

If it's a short travel distance to the outside, and the total number of participants is less than 50, you should be fine with a single, easily recognizable, outward swinging, 30 inch or wider door with no locks or tricky latches. Since the structure may be without windows, a single set of emergency ...

I change my air filter out on my 1/2 ton Ecodiesel in Fernley right after I come off the playa. I coordinate my oil changes so a change is due when I return home to Texas. Unfortunately my truck has a black interior. so I drape everything in old sheets, including the dashboard with a little opening ...

They make a spiffy steel reinforcing bracket for Honda generator handles. It would deter a thief from hacksawing through the handle to free up a locking cable. Attached with security bolts. I have one on each of my generators...but I never leave them in plain sight and unattended. I'm not marketing ...

My little travel trailer IS my "go bag" I keep it inside my shop plugged into shore power. It is pre-loaded with clothes, frozen prepared meals, canned goods, and even a few MREs for grins. I can back my truck up, unplug, hitch up, and be out the door in less than 30 minutes. Since I'm retired, I ca...

Re: Flat Top Shade Structure Guidance + Am I Missing Anything?

The DPW shade crew has been constructing shade structures for years at selected areas...(Ranger outposts, Earth Guardians, ESD medical stations, many others) They are simple in design and tough as nails, parts are interchangeable and can be reused annually, and are typically 20 X 20 but can be scale...

Whatever you bring, please don't bring something like this. While highly effective, if you drive this puppy in, the only way you will get it out is by excavating a big damn hole. Most are too lazy to do that and will say "fuck it" and it becomes part of the MOOP count. https://americanearthanchors.c...

If people want e-bike speeds regulated, let's regulate the speed of everything with wheels regardless of human or other powered: stand up scooters, trikes, bikes, golf carts with staff or handicap stickers, hell, even unicycles. I saw quite a few non-electric bikes hauling ass too. "This business wi...

They (BLM and BRC Earth Guardians) will usually check dripping air conditioner condensate, even though we all know that it is pure water, if they see it making a puddle. They don't get too excited about a damp spot from condensate, but still might ask you to put a catch pan under it. THAT you can sp...

Wetting the top of the dust aggravates the problem. If you have ever used a rolling pin on pie or cookie dough and had the dough stick to the roller, you get the idea. The wet surface (dough) laying on top of the dry dust (flour) sticks to tires, only to be thrown off in clods as centrifugal force p...
