Re: Cultural Course Correcting post by Marian Goodell

I'm trying to wrap my head around this.... A person who has been unable to obtain a ticket through the normal methods, buys into an expensive p-n-p camp primarily to get a DGS ticket?

I guess I underestimate how desperate some people are to attend a dusty event in the Black Rock Desert.

Re: My favorite video (today) thread

The parallels to the "tourists" climbing Mount Everest and the p-n-p playa tourists are amazing. (well, maybe except for the accumulating frozen dead bodies) Even the poor sherpas are exploited. And their "org" (national government) is glad to generate revenue from the tourist trade. https://youtu.b...

Getting permission to use any non-pedal equipped transportation with more than 3 wheels may be problematic in trying to haul your gear around. So a golf cart or utility vehicle with no disability placard may be out.

All through the description of amenities and services provided, the form keeps repeating "We are not a plug and play camp" . If this isn't a PnP, I would like to see what is. Of particular interest is the surcharge/donation for people bringing their own RV's to provide their own housing. I guess the...

Tatonka-when you have a military numbering in the millions, it's easy to sort out the lookers, right down to matching cup size and height, for your marching squads. They have a remarkable similarity in the appearance of the marchers, so much so, that at first I thought it was CGI.

ePlaya board activity

Where are the low points on the bell curve of ePlaya activity? I would imagine activity spikes way up in the weeks approaching, during, and immediately after the event, and gradually slows to a crawl in the gloomy winter months when visions of sugar plums are dancing in burner heads instead of playa...

During this past summer I made it up to the playa and saw the 747 upper chassis in storage in Empire, being used as a cover for hundreds of rusting bikes. Now, that was impressive!
I always said that upper shell would make some farmer a hell of a hay barn.

I had one of these, but it stowed as about an 18' diameter circle. It was a pain the ass to fold up, but worked really well on top of an Army cot. No way is it even close to dust proof, so definitely not playa-ready.

I was at the Black Rock Observatory one dark night in 2016 when they had a night jump. The skydivers had some sort of sparkly pyrotechnic device, but in the dark sky all you could see was a trail of sparks. The astronomers were almost jizzing in their pants, thinking they had spotted some sort of su...

Dry ice in a plastic bucket cooler will probably end up with a shattered bucket, and there goes your cooling system.....but you won't notice, having already asphyxiated due to oxygen displacement by carbon dioxide gas.

I don't think Hell Station is an option for campers not operating a mutant vehicle, an org vehicle like a fire truck or DPW, or some other permitted operation. I don't think they want people driving all the way out there in their POVs just to get 5 gallons at a time for their personal generators.

I have the modified fuel filler caps on both of my parallel connected Honda 2000i's and have them plumbed to a marine fuel tank. If it's a short travel distance to the outside, and the total number of participants is less than 50, you should be fine with a single, easily recognizable, outward swinging, 30 inch or wider door with no locks or tricky latches. Since the structure may be without windows, a single set of emergency ...

Whatever you bring, please don't bring something like this. While highly effective, if you drive this puppy in, the only way you will get it out is by excavating a big damn hole. Most are too lazy to do that and will say "fuck it" and it becomes part of the MOOP count. https://americanearthanchors.c...
