Re: Post-playa maintenance?

I change my air filter out on my 1/2 ton Ecodiesel in Fernley right after I come off the playa. I coordinate my oil changes so a change is due when I return home to Texas. Unfortunately my truck has a black interior. so I drape everything in old sheets, including the dashboard with a little opening ...

Re: Securing your generator.

They make a spiffy steel reinforcing bracket for Honda generator handles. It would deter a thief from hacksawing through the handle to free up a locking cable. Attached with security bolts. I have one on each of my generators...but I never leave them in plain sight and unattended. I'm not marketing ...

Re: I just thought of something to put in my 'Go' bag.

My little travel trailer IS my "go bag" I keep it inside my shop plugged into shore power. It is pre-loaded with clothes, frozen prepared meals, canned goods, and even a few MREs for grins. I can back my truck up, unplug, hitch up, and be out the door in less than 30 minutes. Since I'm ret...

Re: Flat Top Shade Structure Guidance + Am I Missing Anything?

The DPW shade crew has been constructing shade structures for years at selected areas...(Ranger outposts, Earth Guardians, ESD medical stations, many others) They are simple in design and tough as nails, parts are interchangeable and can be reused annually, and are typically 20 X 20 but can be scale...

Whatever you bring, please don't bring something like this. While highly effective, if you drive this puppy in, the only way you will get it out is by excavating a big damn hole. Most are too lazy to do that and will say "fuck it" and it becomes part of the MOOP count. https://americaneart...

Thanks for all the help. I'm meeting her next month and will lay out all the process and the options. I'm sure she can find a group (or two) to volunteer in. She will probably be camping on the 3:00 side, so getting to her assignments on her bike should not be an issue. I recommended that she just c...

Friend seeking to volunteer at BRC

I have a 70 year-old friend with a customer service background with the airline industry who has expressed a keen interest at volunteering at her first burn. She's an independent woman with her own small camper trailer. I have been steering her toward the various volunteer groups and jobs like Airpo...

No BRC DMV requirement for a "dead man" throttle on a mutant vehicle? I find that.......interesting. I will also consult my DMV inspector source and report back.

Re: eBikes and Burners who Ride them

If people want e-bike speeds regulated, let's regulate the speed of everything with wheels regardless of human or other powered: stand up scooters, trikes, bikes, golf carts with staff or handicap stickers, hell, even unicycles. I saw quite a few non-electric bikes hauling ass too. "This busine...

Re: Tips from someone who slept in a car, alone.

They (BLM and BRC Earth Guardians) will usually check dripping air conditioner condensate, even though we all know that it is pure water, if they see it making a puddle. They don't get too excited about a damp spot from condensate, but still might ask you to put a catch pan under it. THAT you can sp...

...........The grey water is poured around the entrance (driver's side cargo door), dries really quick. Used same grey water to soak a cotton wrap skirt and wrap wet skirt as a dress to cool off. I don't want to fuck with your plan, but pouring soapy grey water on the playa is not permitted. Now if...

Re: Condition of Gate Road by Exodus

Wetting the top of the dust aggravates the problem. If you have ever used a rolling pin on pie or cookie dough and had the dough stick to the roller, you get the idea. The wet surface (dough) laying on top of the dry dust (flour) sticks to tires, only to be thrown off in clods as centrifugal force p...

Re: Condition of Gate Road by Exodus

A question: If gate road got so rutted by people driving over 5 mph, how does the Black Rock City Airport runway not get torn up by aircraft with takeoff speeds over 60 MPH? Maybe it's about a lower vehicle count.

Surely, they don't occasionally run a a road grader down the runway?

He says that they work by throwing off the symmetry that the software recognizes as a human face. Sort of like the old dazzle camouflage used on warships during WW 1 and some in WW...

Re: eBikes and Burners who Ride them

I bought my electric trike for the 3rd year and on my 4th day, I bent up my throttle cable DIN plug. I reverted to back-up pedal mode, and with this year's concrete-like playa, it was no big deal. Even pedaling the dusty streets wasn't bad as the dust parted like water, and other than the hidden bum...

Re: Condition of Gate Road by Exodus

They could have lifted the flag line and let every vehicle shift over 5 lanes onto the unbroken crust-granted, in a while it will be just as fucked up. I think if they used a road grader periodically, you would just eventually end up with a road surface a foot deeper than the playa, which would have...

Trailers are notorious for coming with shitty cheapo tires. It's fairly common for people to buy new trailers and immediately swap them out. Absolutely a good idea! I took the factory tires off after 200 miles, sold them on a local trading page, and made enough to pay over half the cost of two new ...

The mass transit buses in Reno have bike racks on the front. Looks like bus lines 7 and 17 go right where you are going. Here is the link to their site: https://www.rtcwashoe.com/public-transportation/biking/
