I want to enlist acaplayans for a project

Oooh, trained vocal musicians ready to play! Perfect! Here's my "project": In the spirit of the evolution theme, I am bringing a monolith, a la 2001, that I (we) will place in a camp (randomly? selected), preferably at sunrise, several times througghout the week, maybe once in front off the Temple, ...

Crude Awakening

I ended up watching the Crude Awakening performance from about 200 yards out, after roaming around in the interior crowd, and even trying a vantage point from the Sunrise Bar near the trash fence. After listening to all the buzz over previous days about the impending fireball, amplified by the expec...

Burning Man is a bigass version of the "loaves and fishes" story. Just think lime jello shots -- two Sacraments in one. (I'll burn for that.) Irreverence is best.

Nice nice very nice.

As my son and I were driving home last hear, early Sunday morning after a week of madness, our first burn, I could only think, shit, now I have to go back next year. No one warned me of that consequence. But alas, as much as we're feeling the pull, we cannot return this season because of other famil...

Do not forget the gods of small things, like the god of the portapotty and the god of the trash fence. These kamis are everywhere, and desire recognition and small sacrifices, else they become pouty and mischievious. You do NOT want the god of the portapotty to become mischievious.

At the Tokyo regional burn, the Vault of Heaven unexpectedly inverted because it's just too damn top heavy with all those people crowded on the ceiling. Event planners expect to resolve the problem prior to igniting The Man (central figure) on Saturday.

Raidster -- I took my 15-yr. old son this year, and we had the time of our lives (first burn for both). Amazing. We both survived quite nicely, even though we're not exactly "intact" any more (in a good sense). The whole scene is altered conciousness. I'm no Puritan, but chemical enhancements at Bur...

F.T. Marinetti penned the Futurist Manifesto in 1909. Do Burners channel Futurists? Some of the bits at the bottom bear reconsideration: I risk great bodily harm by even writing them down, but I refuse to play the Censor or even the Apologist. Please dig Socrates and his Method. I tried making some small figures one day just sitting out at the Crappucino Bar. It's pretty sticky when it gets wet. Did you see the big horse that was coated in the stuff? Herrings (herring?) have many uses. I am reminded of the time some Calech students empirically measured the distance from campus to City Hall in herring-lengths (actually laying a single fish end-over-end for the entire span). I don't know what shape the fish was in at the end of this process, and I...

The bigger concern is the Pombo legislation to start selling federal (BLM) land to the mining industry and other congloms. You can bet that a lot of real estate in Nevada, California, Colorado and New Mexico would end up on the plate, or should I say in the feeding trough.

This is beyond my ken but an interesting problem. I found that gooogling "sail making batten" yields some worthy solutions. What do you do with a drunken sailor, anyway.
