Re: Suggestions for an automatic personal misting system?

Thanks for the great ideas everyone! I am going to give strong consideration to a swamp or figjam bucket cooler! Unfortunately I still dont even know if I have a ticket for this year...

Re: Suggestions for an automatic personal misting system?

This is interesting. It was not really what I had in mind but if I suspend it from the room and have it blowing humidity right into my face, it could work. I already have many portable usb battery packs to power it, I would just need a simple timer between the humidifier and the battery to regulate ...

Re: Suggestions for an automatic personal misting system?

You could spend the time you're wasting arguing building a bucket swamp cooler. He could have written the Arduino code by now. Seriously, this is the perfect solution as outlined above. *Arduino *12-volt pump *Tubing *Mister nozzles Why the hesitation to go this route? It's exactly what you need. M...

My impression was that bucket swamp coolers were ideal for cooling a room or tent? My hammock setup is under a shade tarp but is not contained by walls... it lets me take advantage of the playas naturally cooling wind.

Re: Suggestions for an automatic personal misting system?

Relax, and get over it. You posted a public plea on a message board, and are bound to get a wide range of responses. That includes questioning your need for such a thing, or suggesting a lack of radical self reliance. It probably didn't help that in your responses you were dismissive of people's ex...

Re: Suggestions for an automatic personal misting system?

This is an easy question. They are readily available, at the same store you buy giant flame throwing art pieces and mutant vehicles shaped like birthday cakes from. Ha ha ha ha ha Samhandwich, It may seem we are having too much fun at your expense. We are. Sorry. If you Google 'battery operated mis...

Re: Suggestions for an automatic personal misting system?

Instead of looking for a product to buy why not build something? A misting system would be extremely easy to build from inexpensive parts. Heck, you could even write a simple program for BeagleBone or Arduino to automatically mist at given intervals during certain times of the day or when the ambie...

Re: Suggestions for an automatic personal misting system?

How about a small bedsheets you get damp and cover yourself or lay on top of. You have a fan already, now evaporate something. The bedsheet idea would work, but probably not for long enough ~20 minutes? I would need something that continuously feeds water to my body while I sleep (even if only in s...

Suggestions for an automatic personal misting system?

Hi! I burn on a budget and with limited space for cargo. While I marvel at others' elaborate cooling systems, I myself need to keep things very simple. In 2014 I found that a simple hammock under a tarp was a great way to sleep during the day. I mounted a $4 battery-powered fan from walmart so that ...

How long until low-income tickets applications are closed?

Hi, The official answer seems to be as soon as they have received enough applications, and that there is no way to predict when the program will close. However, I would like to know if anyone has experience submitting a delayed application and if it still got a ticket award? How long did you take to...

Re: Low Income Ticket Program Information

I was up hoping they would be released at midnight last night too... and I am very bright. In the absence of all other information, it was stated that they would be released on march 4 which literally starts at midnight so it isnt unwise to interpret midnight being the release time. Now that we know...

Official response: Information from previous years is not looked at

If I can scrape money for the main sale then I will purchase through there, but it is looking doubtful! Hopefully I will be approved for a low income ticket as that is my only chance of attending BM!

Will my low income ticket be revoked/application be rejected

Hi, I make minimum wage and was hoping to apply for a low income ticket this year. Last year I had my low income ticket revoked because I participated in the main sale, however. I am wondering if the burning man staff will see this in my history and reject my application or later revoke my ticket as...

About the car search at entry...

I am trying to smuggle in lots of drugs and want to know where I can place them so they wont be found and confiscated. Actually I am not quite doing that, but I do plan on bringing several herbal and mineral supplements that usually come stuffed in gel caps. This is my medicine on the playa and will...

Deodorant!

I need some help from veteran burners on this one. To bring deodorant or not to? I can imagine it being somewhat ineffective and pointless with all of the heat and the sweating and the general condition of being unshowered. Also, my deodorant usually melts in hot environments although I guess this c...

Do I need to worry about supply shortages in Cedarville?

I am coming from Eureka, CA and taking the Cedarville route to BM. Burner wisdom is to delay transporting water until the last supply stop at Cedarville for the purposes of keeping the hauling stress on the vehicle low (between my partner and I, we are looking at 300 lbs of water). Do I need to worr...

What day do we leave burning man?

So if burning man ends on sept 2, does that mean we pack up that morning and make the drive back home? Or does it mean that sept 2 truly is the last day of partying, and then we wake up the morning of sept 3 to pack up and drive home?

I need to know what to tell my boss!

An alternative to bread bread bread?!?!?!

It seems that by perusing these forums I have learned that bread has a tendency to quickly go stale on the playa. If this is the case, then what should I use as an alternative to make my peanut butter and jellies sandwiches? Pita bread perhaps? tortillas? What keeps well on the playa for this purpos...

What do you use to keep cool when AWAY from camp?

I am trying to decide if I need to bring a parasol or portable shade structure for when I am biking/walking around black rock city. These seem awkward to keep with and have to set up. Will a wide-brimmed hat be enough or should I carry some other portable shade structure with me?

Re: Can you pogo at burning man?

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE! I have my own set of jumping stilts now! In a nutshell, these things are AWESOME and would be AWESOME to take to burning man. However, they cost $350 and im not sure if I am willing to risk taking them to the playa. The frame is made of aluminum and the spring itself isnt a ste...

Re: Will my bike get destroyed by the playa?

Thanks for the input! Are there typically problems with dust causing the gear and derailer to malfunction? Should I instead focus my search on cruiser bikes that dont have a lot of speeds, or even just single gears?

Will my bike get destroyed by the playa?

I have to decide between bringing my primary use bike or obtaining a crappy used one for the event. The question is, will the playa dust destroy my bike or lead to costly repairs? The advantage to bringing my current bike is that it works well, I am comfortable with it, and I am good to go as is. I ...

Re: Police Using Entrapment

You didn't say what your or her age was. She blatantly gave away that she was a cop, or more likely working for them, when she asked a stranger to commit an illegal act. Double dumbassery for carrying drugs he didn't need with him. At the time I was 24 and she was hovering somewhere around there. A...

Re: Police Using Entrapment

Might I share another undercover cop story? At Electric Daisy Carnival in 2010, A friend of mine was approached by a college aged female who was looking to score some ecstasy (which my friend was obviously on). She did not look like a cop. She was our age, flirtatious, beautiful, really just casuall...

Re: Can you pogo at burning man?

Ive decided to go with the jump stilts for practicality. One day I will master extreme tricks on the pogo stick, but until then, I want to be able to run 20 miles per hour and jump 7 feet high! I think the jump stilts will be a big hit at BM and am only concerned that the dust might be damaging to t...

Can you pogo at burning man?

Hello, virgin burner here! I thought that it might be fun to bring a pogo stick (like an extreme sports kind) to burning man but am unsure of how stable the playa surface is for that sort of activity. Pogo sticking requires a hard surface to bounce on and I have never experienced the playa before so...
