Where does the heat go?
So on Esplanade around 4:30 they had an ask a physicist booth. Of course I waited my turn and brought up the subject of swamp coolers and the ol' "where does the heat go?" question we couldn't get straight at cooler con. Anyway, after about 20 minutes all I got out of the conversation was something ...

Re: cooling your tent or van
Nice meeting you Kent. Yes, your Yurt felt extremely cool and was pretty dust free. In my box truck I could run my finger across a surface and not find playa dust, up till about Thursday when my feet dragged most of it in. I can say I was the cleanest I have been in 10 years of BM. Pretty amazed at ...

It would be helpful to merge the 2012 LEO threads http://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic.php?f=56&t=61372 and this one http://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic.php?f=69&t=61360, from MacGlenver and Captain Mcguiver. What's with that? It's funny that both of us "Macguivers" started LEO threads :). Agr...

Re: Feathers?
Yes. Feathers. We pulled off any feather type thing from whatever we brought. Some chinese blinky things included some badly glued on little feathers that were moop IRL let alone the Playa, so we canned those before we came out. Funny, some of our campmates brought tons of feathers. Odd. I mean, the...

Re: EXODUS, when did u leave. How long did it take 2 the roa
We went to the temple burn, and then finished the last bit of packing (1 hour?) and hit the line. We already hit traffic at the end of our block trying to get to the outer road. A few people ignored the intersection sign asking for people to head to the outer ring, but for the most part the inner ro...

2012 Experiences with Police
Please post any incidents you may have witnesses regarding law enforcement at BM2012. I came home one night to find a bunch of Law enforcement ripping my neighbors camp apart in the middle of the night. I observed four UNMARKED SUV's filled with surveillance /radio equipment across the street, and a...

Re: cooling your tent or van
Great seeing those of you who showed up to CoolerCon 2012! My Swamp Cooler worked almost perfect. The only thing wrong was it let me sleep TOO much! The interior of my truck was so cool, I didn't even have to install the reflectix on the roof. Whenever I felt hot, I just turned on the cooler. Having...

Re: cooling your tent or van
The easiest way to compensate for the angle on your container is to stick some foam rubber around where you want to seal it to the wall. The foam will give enough for you to just push the cooler against the hole in the wall for a good seal. I'm thinking this and a combination of using that spray fo...

From a friend on the ground: "Definitely more dust today and more smoke. Some of us have started calling it smust. Somehow that feels kinda smutty and fun. Yeah, other than the Marine Bilge pumps I've never seen a 12v pump in the wild. Harbor freight should have the Bilge pumps. I've seen them at Walfart as well.
So zeke- you've run the bilge pump continuously for hours and its ok? Is it Noisy?

Can't say I blame them, really. The Playa can really fuck a vehicle up. Oh so you can't blame them for allowing someone to have a reservation, and at the last minute screwing them over without a warning and cancelling it? No, that's wrong, and it screws people's burns. They should be up front about...

Captain, I have one of those too. It's not the one that's malfunctioning, but I did discover that the remote doesn't work well, if at all, in daylight. I had a couple moments of frustration until I discovered that if I held the remote up to the IR sensor and cupped my hand around it, all worked fin...

Currently trying to de-charge my deep cycle (115ah) because I read it will take 10-20 cycles to be at maximum efficiency. I've got the coolbreeze fan set on #1 speed with a multimeter attached. Going on 6 and a half hours and the voltage is at about 12.31 or 65% ish. I'll test the other setting this...

Re: HELP! RGB LED ribbon controller advice
Bought 5m of RGB tape with a controller.
Worked great for 10 mins, then controller fried. (12v system)
Cheap Chinese junk. Luckily it was days ago so I had time to re-order backups. That's why you gotta test everything months in advance of BM.
Hopefully the new driver will last longer.

Re: cooling your tent or van
kip - the radiator fan will no doubt use a lot of Amps. Yes it WILL work, but it will waste power. You won't get that many hours of use if you draw the amps from a fuel pump and radiator fan. They are 12 volt, but high in amps. You would probably be better off using a box fan on 120volt power with a...

Re: car battery for power source?
You also need a power inverter to allow you to plug in "normal" lights and such into a car battery. I suggest LED lights, and even 12 volt lights meant for a battery. It will be more efficient and allow you to run lights longer. Also, you should get a meter and monitor your battery voltage. Draining...
