I clean my chain with Giant Agent Orange Citrus Degreaser. Use a lint free cloth. Then I put on Dumonde Tech, bike chain lube. It's dry and doesn't attract the dust so much. That sounds like a very good procedure. Dumonde Tech was apparently developed racing motorcycles on the Bonneville salt flats...
