Post-Playa Camera Care
I have an Olympus Micro 4/3 camera with a sealed body and sealed primary lens, but this year I took a telephoto lens that I think is probably not sealed - and since this is second year taking the camera, I'm thinking maybe it's time to get it serviced. Anyone have any shout-outs for SF Bay Area came...

Re: Vinegar/Water Wash For Body Parts... ?
We used about 1 part white vinegar to 1 part aloe to about 4 parts water. It had a strong initial pong to it but that evaporated almost as quickly as the liquid, and everyone in camp swore by it. Other than some bloody cuticles from working without gloves on and off for the first day, my hands and f...

Massage oil recommendations for dusty Playa people
I found a massage chair on the street a few years back and we've brought it out for giggles the last few years. While everyone enjoys using it, we always forget to bring oil and we end up just using skin lotion, which is nice but not ideal. Any recommendations for oils that work well in dry, dusty c...

STRANGELOVE - fly the friendly skies! (we need campmates!)
Hi all, I'm Wonder, co-lead (with the Count) of Strangelove. We're a flight-themed camp based out of SFO that has a bar structure that looks like a chunk of broken airliner, complete with a business class with four airplane seats and a wing-shaped bar. We spin house and dubstep as the mood suits, as...

Re: Tips on cladding plywood with aluminum?
kpsf1964, will it be strong enough to dance on? With 30 gauge, you'll get a patina pretty fast... (well, not technically, but you could consider it that) Thanks for the link, tatonka! That is EXACTLY why I chose 1-1/8" plywood, Patsh - although the height of the shade structure is going to m...

Awwww, HELL yeah . . . 1-1/8" plywood is no joke. Only issue is that the shade structure is only 8' high. Bu...

Re: Tips on cladding plywood with aluminum?
FANTASTIC - thanks all for the feedback!
Any suggestions on what gauge aluminum sheeting to use? 30- or 36-gauge looks like it cuts and bends well - any comments?

Tips on cladding plywood with aluminum?
We're building a wing-shaped bar for our camp and we want to face it with aluminum - both the bar top, which is 1-1/8" plywood, and the front panels, which are 3/4" structural plywood. I see that you can get very thin-gauge aluminum but I want to pick a thin-enough gauge that it's easy to bend and g...

Re: Trouble with glue and velcro, velcro, velcro!
the best fabric to anything glue Ive found is PL polyurethane black roof and flashing sealant. Its not meant to be a glue but it sticks great and stays flexible enough to bend with fabric and Velcro, and lasts forever, you need a glue cartridge dispenser. Its expensive but less than goop or shoe go...

Trouble with glue and velcro, velcro, velcro!
Hi, we're dressing up our shade structure this year and after researching glues to cement the various components together, I settled on WeldWood, which was recommended on a lot of fora and at the hardware store. Unfortunately, neither the water-based nor solvent-based version is working out: the sur...

Thanks, this looks like a good start. We have a contractor in our group and he's in the mix as well. Will post our final setup later for future use.

Help refining lighting setup with 4 x 5m RGB LED strips
Hi all, I'm trying to create an interior backlighting effect for the walls of our shade structure/installation and I'm new to using LED strips. I'm hoping someone can give me a little guidance I'm looking to set up four RGB LED strips that will have their light patterns synced so that they vary in c...
