Re: Time for a Happy Thread

Thanks. It was lovely and awesome. :)

Now if I could just gift my wife with some airplane rides. She says the "gift" is letting her stay on the ground. :D

My wife swears by olive oil... but she's not a guy.
I would suggest Chapstick. Seriously.

Re: Time for a Happy Thread

I was finally able to gift an airplane ride to someone this past weekend. I had promised him at Burning Man but we never got around to it. I made good this past Saturday. Made us both happy.

Re: I feel Burning Man is a White thing

The first topless hug I got at BM was from a BEAUTIFUL young black woman. One of the coolest guys I met there was a black gentleman who worked at the airport for the charter aircraft company. He said HE would definitely be back next year and was bringing friends. I assume at least some of those frie...

Re: How Was It for You?

I just think you shouldn't allow anyone else to define your burn. I'm not part of the party 'till you puke set so I stayed away from most of the loud music raver venues. As long as Burning Man maintains it's radical self-expression directive, then it will always be a cool place to go. They can rave ...

Re: How Was It for You?

I liked meeting people from other countries. The Canadians were my favorite. I would speak really slowly to them and tell them that their English was very good for a foreigner. :) Most of them got the joke. Some didn't. If they got offended I would just say "I'm sorry" and by Canadian law, they coul...

We'll be camping in a local hotel. One step at a time for my wife. I'll have to get her slowly used to camping in the dust. I have to hook her with the people first. :)

Re: Newbie On Fire for 2014

2013 was my first year. The best advice I got and took was to go in with no agenda, no plan (other than your radical self-reliance plan) and that was the best advice ever. I meandered my way around the city, met some great people, and had a great time. I started small, didn't try to bite off too muc...

The BLM was holding them at the gate because there were too many inside BRC. Looks like there was room for plenty more to me. But I'm just a dumb pilot.

Re: How Was It for You?

Since it was my first burn I have nothing to compare it to. However, I am so glad I heeded the advice given me on this forum: Go in with no expectations and no agenda. I did just that and I was pleasantly surprised, and changed forever.

Maybe folks are bringing in expectations that they shouldn't?

Re: First timer's perspective

Transformus, a regional burn in July, is a lot of fun. Held on private property outside Ashville, North Carolina, up in the mountains, almost rain forest. Gorgeous, great people, very fun. Small tho and can be hard to get tickets. I enjoyed it just as much as I do the big burn. I love camping in ge...

Cameras, cameras everywhere! Every art installation is another photo-op! Monkey-Douches step right up and on top of anyone enjoying their space for a shot! Yet another documentary on BM is being filmed, 6:00 is the best angle of the burns. I cannot wait to post this on facebook… Picture taking is v...

The worst part for me was coming home and finding out my wife doesn't want to have anything to do with me anymore and wants me out of the house. :( Have no idea what I'm going to do...... If you have any children living at home do not leave the house. This can be considered abandonment and can hurt...

Re: law enforcement 2013

When I was gifting airplane rides over the city I noted a car hauling ass across the desert outside the borders of BRC heading southbound toward the northern perimeter fence. I thought, I wonder if that's BLM. Then I saw another car coming around one of the points of the perimeter fence, lights flas...

Default world obligations caused me to leave Saturday morning. Exodus had me in Oroville in 2 hours, and back home in one more hour. It was tough.

Missing the ePlaya meet and greet was the worst part. I volunteered at the Airport Galley. They needed me. They feeded me. Maybe I'll get to meet y'all next year. As this was my first burn all I can say is that it was slightly awesome.

Re: First timer's perspective

Well luckily the plane is mostly Dacron and is pretty drafty. Most of the airframe dust blew away on the 3 hour flight home. It's those nooks and crannies that I need to worry about. I'll ask the guys on the airplane list. Thanks for enjoying the read! After all these years, I finally "get" what the...
