Re: What happens if you get tickets and no vehicle pass?
Remember, the number of passes on offer is not less than the number of passes used this year. I think that people who ended up paying $40 for nothing will be less willing to do so again. I think they should have provided more wiggle room, but I don't think there's any reason to panic about scarcity...

Re: What happens if you get tickets and no vehicle pass?
It seems at some point that vehicle passes will be even more valuable than the entry tickets as the number of vehicle passes are reduced. My fear is you won't be able to find a vehicle pass at any price. With 27,000 vehicle passes they expect each vehicle to average about 2.6 people per vehicle if t...

Re: Is Burning Man the right place for a shy, socially akwar
I didn't realize they are cutting vehicle passes fairly dramatically this year. For general sale there is only about one vehicle pass available for every four tickets being sold. That seems to make it pretty hard to get a vehicle pass. While I would like to go to Burning Man at least once, I might j...

What happens if you get tickets and no vehicle pass?
Burning Man has reduced the total number of vehicle passes by over 20% for 2015. What happens if you get tickets, but can't get a vehicle pass? Do you just end up having to sell your tickets because you can't go? The general sale has 40,000 tickets, but only 12,000 vehicle passes. Assuming most will...

Our group goes to other events out on the Playa. The event we attend every year is several weeks after Burning Man.Bless wrote:Might I ask why you drove 4,000 miles to and from the playa but did not attend the event?reader2580 wrote:We even made the 4,000 mile round trip twice in 2013.

Re: Is Burning Man the right place for a shy, socially akwar
Yes, actually I can. I've even built an entire touring bicycle from the frame up once. It has been a long time since I did major bicycle repairs, but I can still do the basics for sure. I would have to relearn some of the stuff.Elliot wrote:Can you repair bicycles?

Re: Is Burning Man the right place for a shy, socially akwar
Counting on friends to go with you can result in disappointment, so be ready emotionally and financially for people not to commit, or for people to drop out of the trip by June. Have a Plan A & a Plan B, at least. (It is more expensive and more time-consuming to prepare than most first-timers imagi...

Re: Is Burning Man the right place for a shy, socially akwar
I think it would fun to go to Burning Man once, but I am concerned I might not enjoy it. I really wouldn't know until I do it once. I would feel guilty about taking up a ticket if I didn't like it. I'll have to talk to my friends and see if anyone is really interested. Who knows if we could even buy...

Re: Is Burning Man the right place for a shy, socially akwar
I feel like I wouldn't be prepared infrastructure wise after reading about everyone bringing monkey huts, swamp coolers, and everything else. My party tent has never been tested in the 40 to 60 MPH winds like are not that uncommon on the Playa. My guess is it has been in winds maybe 30 to 40 MPH. I'...

Is Burning Man the right place for a shy, socially akward gu
Some friends of mine have indicated a desire to someday attend Burning Man. I'm wondering how I would do at Burning Man as a shy, socially akward guy? I don't drink and I don't go to bars or anything of the like. I also don't typically stay up too late at night. My friends would fit right in at Burn...

Re: New car fees and more great ideas
The MN State Fair started charging for parking in the early 90s. At first, cars with 4 or more passengers got free parking to encourage car pooling. After a decade or so they started charging all cars for parking. The MN State Fair at least used all the parking revenue to start a massive free park a...

Re: Circus Tents
The best place to get party/circus tents is from tent rental companies at the beginning or end of the season when they sell off older tents to get new ones. I have a 20x20 commercial Eureka tent I bought from a rental company. It has survived very high winds out at Black Rock.

Re: Questions about lnt, gray water removal, large kitchens
Each person doesn't have to set up their own wash station at a communal camp. Just set up a communal set of dish pans and have everyone wash and rinse their personal dishes. Now, this doesn't work if everyone doesn't eat at the same time. My solution is simply to use disposable plates and silverware...

Re: Professional Playa Power Protocols
Would the generator rental places really be able to satisfy the demand for rental units if everyone started doing that instead of bringing their own? Remember, the LLC already rents a lot of generators which means fewer for burners. I looked into renting a generator from the local Cat rental place i...

Re: Is the BMIR audio stream really live?
I think I figured it out. If you hit stop in Media Player and then hit replay later it seems to start playing an archived copy of the stream instead of going back to live. I restarted my Media Player and now I'm pretty sure I'm getting the live stream as they were talking about the temple being prep...

Is the BMIR audio stream really live?
I have been listening to the BMIR audio stream on and off through Windows Media Player. Is this really live, or are they replaying from earlier in the week? For the past few days I keep hearing promotions for events such as Tutu Tuesday that happened several days ago. I just a few minutes ago heard ...

Re: What hours does traffic move at speed limit on 447?
Reader Ive done the drive many times. there are plenty of safe places to pull off. That holds true for other two lane highways. Selfish power tripping slow drivers refuse to pull over, they dont care if a 100 cars are following them. So youll continue to get passed with inches to spare and have to ...

Re: What hours does traffic move at speed limit on 447?
There is almost no place to pull over on 447, especially for a motorhome or any vehicle towing a trailer. There are metal or fiberglass posts along the road for much of the length of 447. The best place to pull over would probably be in one of the towns along the way. We had a tire issue along north...

Re: Drilling holes for rebar
I have pounded 3/4" 40 inch long stakes into the playa before. I use a 1/2" 36 inch long masonry bit to drill holes first. A cordless drill doesn't have enough power for such a long bit. I use a really old really big Craftsman drill to make the holes. I have a stake extractor to get them out when le...

Re: Nevada Food License
I sold food out on the Playa for a different event last month. Getting the Nevada temporary food permit was easy. The requirements are pretty lenient compared to what I have seen in other states and cities. My total cost for permit and stuff to comply was maybe $80. I didn't get inspected probably b...
