Re: There's nothing wrong with basing cleanup deposits on exodus cleanup results

It seems like many of you are ok with keeping deposits from people who skip out on cleaning... But not ok with later refunding those deposits if the camp gets a green moop score? My camp charges a deposit to ensure participation in cleanup NOT for a good moop score. If you are there for cleanup (an...

Re: Cultural Course Correcting post by Marian Goodell

It is returning Burners who are the culture bearers of Burning Man. There is a lot of lamentation that Burning Man is not what it was, TTID has changed- and for the worse. There are complaints that new Burners are not accultured. Our culture is an average, a conglomeration, a mix of the opinions and...

In the open forums I moderate, I have had one spam post in the last ten years. There are over 5 million posts in those forums.

It can be done.
I'd worry that, at that level of filtering, a large percentage of good posts would be excluded. AI isn't that accurate.

Re: Tricycle fabbing advice: bending square tube

Well, if it doesn't have to be square you could check out a place that makes custom exhausts. Who knows, they might be able to do square as well. A pipefitter (not a plumber) could do this for you. Most largeish electrical contractors have the hydraulic power tools to do this, you might need to look...

Re: Ideating a meal prep service for BM 2019

It's been tried and it doesn't work for several reasons: No one wants another plug n play camp. You have to charge much more than a Burner can pay to bring their own meals. Are we supposed to throw away a cooler every year? Half (or more) of the fun in the Burn is preperation. You are offering an un...

An Aussie I met several years ago said they had saved about half the price of their ticket by buying about this time of year, so if you are sure you are going... Re: Dual Hose Air Conditioner

If you got negative pressure, then something is wrong. We discussed this with other shiftpod owners, this problem exists in many different dual hose ACs, something is wrong with their design - there is negative pressure and it's impossible to do anything about it. If you have negative pressure in t...

When I see: I substantially scaled down my previous design, and am building in a fair amount of buffer. I read it as " I gold plated my original design, and exagerated/ lied about how much money I really need, in order to get a larger piece of the pie." Maybe, you could create a more realistic, hone...

The 12v is unregulated. You run the risk of burning out the fan and pump. If you use the generators 12v add a voltage regulatir to the circuit or just use a battery charger.

Some marine battery boxes have a place for a padlock or you could drill one. You could run a bike lock through the padlock and attach to your car, a rebar stake etc.
Not bank vault secure but better than nothing.

Re: Tent + Reflectix = Awesome? Fail?

Why would I do this, why do I need it, you may ask? I intend on having a swamp cooler or AC inside, Swamp coolers go outside with the cool air vented into the tent and then the tent vented to remove warm moist air. AC goes in the wall so the condenser is vented outside and the evaporator is inside.

Re: Lag Bolts - zinc vs. Galvanized - also size recommendation

1) Is it worth buying galvanized lag bolts vs zinc? I think the galvanized coating is mainly for moisture (rust protection). I'm guessing that moisture won't be a big concern on the playa. Metal is galvanized when it is coated with zinc. Zinc coating and galvanizing are the same thing. Your lag bol...

I need to transport 16 EMT conduits (8x8',8x10ft) for the shade structure and they fit fine to my roof-top cross bars on SUV, hanging only 2 FT behind the car - I use duct tape to make sure they do not move within "group" and then strap to tight it down in 2 groups to both sides of the car.
