Re: 36 volt vs 48 volt driving

As long as the horse power output is the same, and the controls and motors are 36 volt why not?

Re: Reasonable Honoraria Funding Request Vs. Total Budget

When I see: I substantially scaled down my previous design, and am building in a fair amount of buffer. I read it as " I gold plated my original design, and exagerated/ lied about how much money I really need, in order to get a larger piece of the pie." Maybe, you could create a more realistic, hone...

Re: cooling your tent or van

The 12v is unregulated. You run the risk of burning out the fan and pump. If you use the generators 12v add a voltage regulatir to the circuit or just use a battery charger.

Re: cooling your tent or van

Some marine battery boxes have a place for a padlock or you could drill one. You could run a bike lock through the padlock and attach to your car, a rebar stake etc.
Not bank vault secure but better than nothing.

Re: Tent + Reflectix = Awesome? Fail?

Why would I do this, why do I need it, you may ask? I intend on having a swamp cooler or AC inside, Swamp coolers go outside with the cool air vented into the tent and then the tent vented to remove warm moist air. AC goes in the wall so the condenser is vented outside and the evaporator is inside.

Re: Lag Bolts - zinc vs. Galvanized - also size recommendation

1) Is it worth buying galvanized lag bolts vs zinc? I think the galvanized coating is mainly for moisture (rust protection). I'm guessing that moisture won't be a big concern on the playa. Metal is galvanized when it is coated with zinc. Zinc coating and galvanizing are the same thing. Your lag bol...

I tried 1"PVC my first year. It was an absolute fail.
To have a sucessful shade structure use EMT, minimum 3/4" with 1" a lot better.

Re: Transporting EMT Conduit to Playa on SUV

I need to transport 16 EMT conduits (8x8',8x10ft) for the shade structure and they fit fine to my roof-top cross bars on SUV, hanging only 2 FT behind the car - I use duct tape to make sure they do not move within "group" and then strap to tight it down in 2 groups to both sides of the car. Cross b...

I can't claim this as my idea, courtesy of a campmate. Put the button in your pack and the bell under your seat. Or attach it to a flag pole. You need to read everything otherwise you don't know what you are getting in to. I know how hard it is to read a foreign language (although this is written very well), but keep trying . I doubt you will be able to bring much in the way of food. There is a lot of stuff customs won't let in the countr...

Has anyone ever done anything to use the chilled reservoir water to pre-chill the incoming hot dry air?
There is a thread on here about two stage evaporation.

Re: Recommended tent fan

Tent's, yurts, box truck any structure, no matter how well insulated, will gain heat above the outside ambient. The sun warms the skin of the structure which radiates this heat to the inside. A fan inside the tent will raise its' temperature. You need to get the heated air out. Most are afraid of th...

Fans cannot cool an area below the outside ambient temperature. In fact they actually add heat to a room. You may feel cooler as the air moves over your sweaty skin and evaporates the sweat but the room is not cooler.

That tent looks ok BUT Walmart and $111.00? I don't know.
Check how good the zippers are. Can you pull them apart? Also those poles may not be strong enough to stand up to the wind with all that sail area.

Agree with LoveMachine, in 2016 we could fill up any tim in 5 gallon increments. You have to fill everything at once upon arrival. Or that is how it was last year. That is NOT correct. You have to fill the full 5 gallons from each ticket, or forfeit the rest. But you can fill every day up until buse...

Schools in Washoe county, which includes Sparks, are overcrowded and deeply in debt, so much so that voters in 2016 approved a sales tax hike to help plug the gap. Even so, fresh budget cuts could eliminate bus routes for nearly 4,000 elementary and middle school students in an effort to save $550,0...
