I actually use Aquatainers:
They hold 7 gallons. You can get them at Wal-Mart.

Re: The things I did right and things I wish I did right
26x2.125 knobby tires are avalible for cruiser bikes, and are easy to find..... check your local bike shop..... True dat, in fact the tires of which you speak are the same tires you find on a mountain bike (see my previous pics). Those are the "knobby" tires of which we all have so often read, but ...

Re: The things I did right and things I wish I did right
Oh, and I rode through a street right after the water truck came by and the tires got a thin coat of mud on them and then it dried and flew right off! YAY! Ha, you just reminded me of the exact opposite situation that happened to my friend while we were riding. She had a pretty much brand new beach...

Re: changes to the FIGJAM's evaporative cooler design
Nice! So it looks like you can use that "PWM" controller from amazon even if your fan doesn't have a PWM output--you just need the negative and positive from the fan, right? So we can use that controller to control any fan and turn down the speed if we so desire (ie. the bucket cooler is making thin...

Re: The things I did right and things I wish I did right
I second Trilo's comment about the cruisers. I ride a cruiser, and yes, it's a bit heavier than a MT bike, but it has one simple chain and I find that I do just fine when I hit a "beach" on the open playa. I just stand up and power through. A good headlight on your bike can help you avoid the "beac...

Re: The things I did right and things I wish I did right
The reason beach cruisers are such a popular choice is because they come with wide knobby tires as standard equipment, and are generally much cheaper than off-road/mountain bikes. I gotta disagree a little about the tires thing. Beach cruisers do come with "wide" tires, but they aren't "knobby", th...

3 cooler setup worked very well. 75 pounds of dry ice in a 150qt marine cooler kept water ice and steaks frozen for several days. I had ice for the other 2 coolers through Thursday. When did you buy the dry ice? Ie. how many days did you get out of the 75 pounds? I've read that it sublimates at 10l...

The things I did right and things I wish I did right
Hey all, So this year was my first year and I had an amazing time and it was largely thanks to all the advanced preparation and research I was able to do, from the reading the official site to searching these boards, to getting to talk to veteran burners and pick their brains. But there are some thi...

Re: cooling your tent or van
Jason, They do make user-settable 12v thermostats that would turn your cooler on and off at predetermined temperature settings. When I lived in Las Vegas 43 years ago, I purchased one locally and it worked flawlessly. I am sure that you can find one and when you do, please let us know. Which water ...

Hey all, I just picked up the fan that Figjam recommends, the 190CFM Delta AFB1212SHE-CF00, from http://www.onlinecomponents.com for $22.84, which is considerably cheaper than the site he originally recommended a few years ago, frozencpu.com, which has it for $34.95: http://www.onlinecomponents.com/...

Oh man this is a very good tip... had the exact same thought when I was cleaning up the RV on Wednesday... fucking playa gets into the grain on the wood flooring in those Cruise America RVs... and don't get me started on the vinyl flooring in the cab--it has a texture on it that prevents you from sc...

Re: Running solid state electronics from a generator
Most excellent sir, thank you. It looks like there are a few different models of those voltage regulators. One thing we are considering bringing next year is a small microwave to reheat our meals (we used the one in the RV this year). Just gotta make sure I get one powerful enough to handle it. That...

Re: Running solid state electronics from a generator
Regarding amps, I inherited the one I was using and it had been sitting for 2 years. You can safely assume that I didn't bring anything to the burn that I *really* cared about. ;-) And I have yet another I've had since 1990 that I haven't used in years because its outmoded. I don't care about them a...

Re: Running solid state electronics from a generator
I can tell you guys right now, I'm not dropping $1000 for an eu2000i just to play music. :-) BBadger, if I understand you right, you think it's voltage *spikes* that caused the amp to go up in a puff of smoke? If so, why wouldn't I try something like this for $47.25 on amazon?: http://www.amazon.com...

Running solid state electronics from a generator
Hey guys, So this year was my first burn and I'm happy to say it went amazingly well, largely thanks to all the advanced preparation me and my camp mates were able to do thanks to sites like this one. The only thing that really went wrong was our amplifier dying when we ran it on the generator, whic...
