Re: Shade fabric HELP
For the monkee hut I highly rec you use silver tarps (sold at most "tarp stores" and everywhere else). Definitely DON'T use the standard blue tarps. They'll turn your hut into a sauna mucho quicko!!

How about using clear plastic hose/tubing and just running a 1/4"-3/8" dowel inside it (along with lites) for stiffness ?

Re: I want to build a Monkey Hut but can't take 10' poles
A lot of folks cut the rib in 1/2 or 1/3's and then use a 1 or 2 foot length of the next bigger size of pvc pipe as a connector "sleeve". The natural tension usually negates the need for taping.

I know you can buy a carport from Costco but it appears most (?) folks use it "clam shell" style (see photo). Does anyone know if you could just buy conduit connectors and make your own ? Any ideas which connectors would be the correct ones ? And H-W-L meas. of legs/cross pieces ? THANKS........ cla...

I thought I read here (?) that you could buy individual lags from the "fastenersuperstore" . All I can see is full cases.
Did I mis-read or miss some "button" on the store's site ?

Monkee hut + Kodiak tent ??
If using a monkee hut over a Kodiak (10x10) during a typical BM whiteout....how much does the HUT actually reduce the noise and movement (articulations?) inside the TENT ? And, since when it's really windy the wind seems to shift directions constantly, does it matter which way the HUT is oriented ? ...

Capinator; for the 10x10 flat tops....was it worth all the taping and grommeting as opposed to just using the "standard" silver tarps ? How about comparative costs ?

Re: Kodiak 10x14 Simple Shade Structure and PVC Question
A number of people join lengths of pvc or emt. The pvc uses 12"-18" of the next larger size as a "sleeve" (i.e. if using 1" ribs use 1 1/4" for sleeves). If using emt just buy the proper size "connector" from the store you buy your corners and Tees from.

Kaiser's "re-hydration" drink is : 1 quart water 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. table salt 3-4 TBSP. sugar NOT TO BE USED ON CHILDREN UNDER 12 ! If you just bring a few "batches" pre-measured and wrapped in Saran Wrap.....GOOD LUCK explaining it to whichever LEO catches ya with it.................. K

Re: Conduit Shade Structure Questions
Would "angling" sidewalls help in windy conditions ? Like using a 10' tarp on a 7' high structure and lagging down the bottom edge that is pulled out and taut (roughly 45 degrees).

Re: Flat Top Shade Structure Guidance + Am I Missing Anything?
If building a flat top (silver tarp) structure using 1" emt what is the longest "clear space" (no supporting pole) you can go ? I'm thinking of a 14'x14' and wondering if I can get by with only 4 corner posts (?).

You could do a decent report on BM without attending , IF, you were between 18-20 years old during 1967 or 68 (and lived in the SF Bay area) and/or attended Woodstock.

Re-bar or Lag Screws for a Monkee Hut ?
I've seen some posts on folks using lag screws instead of rebar to slide the pvc arches over. Just wondering what the general consensus is.
If lags are used with, say 1" pvc, what sizes are used ? What length and how much is left above ground ? THANKS !!

So, some of you folks are using lag screws for your monkee hut legs ? Is that working better than 2' rebar used on 1" pvc arches ?
Thanks..........

Actually, it is efficient. The last test I saw showed a Prius ,used as a generator with an inverter (as posted above) was more efficient than a Honda 2k generator (gas used per watt).

KODIAK TENT in the WIND
Where would the best place be for additional tie-downs to secure a Kodiak flex-bow tent against high winds ?
Would a monkee hut (with tarp) over the tent protect it from "bending in the winds" or would it just beat against it all night ?
