Re: "Burning Man's Culture is in Danger"
National Socialists (Nazis) - Only around for a generation, killed less than 10 million people. Today they are seen as a fringe group that nobody really supports and your odds of even seeing are slim to none. Communists - Around for hundreds of years, still out marching to this day, killed over 100 ...

Re: Any tips for a very, very basic bar
We built a simple portable bar a few years ago. First we built a square box from from 2x2 then used light weight trim boards to create an "X" on all sides for strength, then we wrapped it with a festival sheet around the sides. The top is a removable piece of plexiglass with another decorative sheet...

Re: Leaving No Trace in Regards to Carbon Emissions
I'm all about putting things in perspective. How do you think Burning Man compares to the wildfires that occur EVERY FRICKING YEAR in Northern California, Oregon, and Nevada? Not even a damn blip on the map. My back 40 burned up a week ago and released more Carbon in a matter of days than our whole ...

Make it easy on yourself, go buy LED string lights that are already attached to a small solar panel and made for this exact purpose.

Re: Truck camping questions.
I would highly recommend investing in a pop up shade structure to put over the pickup. It makes a huge difference. 10x10 will cover the bed and 2 feet off the back. Without it, that camper shell will be unbearable from 9 AM until well after dark.

Re: Leaving No Trace in Regards to Carbon Emissions
Here is another way to think of it, what are your emissions like normally? If you were not at Burning Man, would you still be driving? Using AC? Running appliances, consuming food, creating trash ect... For that week of your existence, do your emissions increase due to being at BM?

Damn, you are making me hungry, and we're out of bacon. We just butchered a hog we raised from a wild piglet, but we didn't get any bacon out of it. The whole thing went in the deep pit BBQ for the wedding. I just don't understand how people can raise an animal then slaughter and eat it. I'm not a ...

Check out Skinny Kitty Tea House. Not sure how to get ahold of them, but they are out of Humboldt and they have a huge tent where they do a whole aerial show, silks, rings, ropes, ect.. They were camped in the 3:00 Plaza last year.

Re: Carport shade questions
Something I've found helpful in all my camping adventures, not just BM, is using canvas instead of plastic tarps. They are softer, don't make as much noise, and they don't leave moop like the woven plastic ones. They also seem to breath better. The initial cost is kind of high, but worth it. I'm sti...

Re: "Burning Man's Culture is in Danger"
Sadly, I think all of this is inevitable. It is simple math. Every year, more people want to attend the event while ticket sales stay the same. This makes it more and more of a crap shoot for who gets tickets and who doesn't. Some idiot raver who doesn't give 2 fucks about the culture or event has a...

Re: Hexayurts vs. RVs? Why not a hybrid?
Nice work. Add some siding and you'll have one of those mobile tiny houses. Thanks! And that's not a bad idea - but I've never worked with it. Is it pricey? Or heavy? That depends on what you buy and where. You'd want to do some frame work with 2x4 as well if you decide to add siding, otherwise it ...

Hey, I read your post and would love to meet you and your fellow weirdo's sometime. I live about an hour South of Ashland and spend a lot of time in Southern Oregon. I would like there to be an exemption for all wheeled couches. If they're not a death trap, approve it instantly. There can't be enough mobile couches on the playa. Second that. I wish it was easier to bring a small, simple Art Car, for those of us without the means to build or transport a large on...

Some people I know fill a barrel with straw (rye I think) and oyster mushrooms, then filter their gray water through it. The mushrooms feed on all the nasty biological stuff in the water and do a pretty good job filtering it. Not sure how clean the water comes out or how long the process takes, but ...

Re: Alternate Roads to BRC, why aren't we making the most of them?
There are signs out on those roads telling you specifically not to stop and talk to the locals. That is a pretty good reason right there not to drive those roads. I know people who have, they were fine, but they said it was a little creepy out in those parts. Wouldn't recommend it unless you know th...

Re: Overwhelmed: I Seek To Create a Theme Camp
Sounds like a great theme idea and not too difficult to pull off either. I think you laid out all the major points of the camp. Theme camps can be any size, don't feel like it has to be some big production. Focus on your camp for living purposes first, then figure out how to integrate the theme. Del...

Thanks for the lesson Captain. I don't know why I always thought they had 315 hp stock, something that stuck in my mind from 16 yrs ago when dad bought his first Cummins. You are correct, they don't, just looked at a Cummins web site. So yeah, I'm definitely over-estimating by at least 70 hp (mine i...

I know a guy that put's Cummins engines in other vehicles. It isn't easy. Lot's of fab work to make it all fit and function. I'd say 5k budget is pretty small unless you do the work yourself. If the DEF freezes (like it would have here the last couple days) then the truck goes to idle mode just as it would if you ran out. As for cracking the tank, I don't know, but it certainly would be a possibility. I really don't know how they deal with the freezing issue. Maybe a tank heater? Easiest...

Whatever it is, it ruined diesel trucks. Our 2001' 5.9L stock Dodge work truck runs like a champ, makes 315 hp/600+ft/lb and gets 20 mpg. My modded, lifted 01' makes 500hp/1000 ft/lb and gets 22 mpg. Dads 2013' 6.7L (last non DEF) stock Dodge makes 400hp/800 ft/lb and gets 17 mpg on a good day. It's...

Re: 2017 Tickets
Ratty, IMO the price printed on the ticket has no affect on resale. Everyone knows what the ticket price is. What matters is how much someone is willing to pay for it. If a ticket is available on craigslist for 10,000 dollars, and someone is willing to pay that price, then it will sell for 10k. I pe...

Re: Discuss Philosophical Ticketing Policy - Was Lone Ticketing Genius
Eric, I was commenting on the resale of tickets via "scalping." Those who buy "face value tickets" for $1000 dollars don't care that the ticket says $390 on it, they know they are paying over face value. If face value was $1 it wouldn't mean anything to them because they paid $1000 for it. As long a...

Re: Discuss Philosophical Ticketing Policy - Was Lone Ticketing Genius
The face value of the ticket means nothing. You could put $1 on there and as long as it still got you through the gate, it'd sell for whatever people are willing to pay.
