*Zooms in, runs three circles around bar with hair on fire*
Hi dear Bar! I hope to see you all soon in the dust.

Re: Rest In Peace
We learned last night that our Burner community has lost a very dear, sweet soul. RIP Parker East, aka "Cake". He was wildly talented, deftly creative, and enormously intelligent. He travelled the world with a childlike love and unstintingly gave of himself to those around him. The Greeters communit...

Re: The Bar 2016 Edition
Wow! The sky behind the ridge west of town is bright orange for miles and miles from a fire out on the Air Force Base. We are not in any danger, nor are any occupied structures threatened yet - but it is really dramatic looking. 2,200 acres burned so far with 0% containment. Am glad I didn't wash my...

Yo, Sparr - the bar codes on the tickets are scanned, each time someone comes in with them - with a hand held scanner connected to the data base. We are not new to this rodeo.

Re: WOOT, scored at the OMG sale ;)
Welcome Chief! Sounds like you are super prepared to help out anyone who meets you. There will be many. Good luck, and Happy Burn! I am so glad (as a former Navy wife) that you were one of the very few that succeeded in the OMG sale.

Yo, Crunchy - you need to go to Belligerent Gap. One of their own is a professional longboarder, making a good living in the industry. Ask for Max.

Re: Rest In Peace
Sweet Zigzag, I am so sorry that she is gone. It is hard that most of us outlive our very best friends, but there is another side to it - I have seen some pets that outlive their owners. That is the very hardest, because they grieve without knowing why. I have seen good people ask that their elderly...

Re: Protecting my trip and ticket when carpooling with strangers?
I have personally busted people who rolled into camp asking for handouts while bragging that they snuck in. I'm over 60, (and not very big), but at the top of my lungs, I backed a 25'ish guy a half block down the street at high volume hoping someone with a radio would hear so he could be removed. I ...

I beleuve that's the Virginia mountains complex fire which is burning on the other side of the lake at Sutcliffe unless Nixon caught fire last night. There was a mandatory evac of Sutcliffe residents over the weekend but people are back home now. Nixon community center was used as an evac shelter. ...

Re: Bus to the Greeter Station??
Real answer: The Greeters Station is close to the city, but not so easy is Gate. Greeters is easily bikeable, or walkable, from the city. Most of us walk or bike ride to the Greeter's station. I have walked it many times for 18 years. Gate volunteers need to arrange for transport which is provided f...

Greeters is the BEST job on playa. Come out to play with us. Please sign up - but if you haven't, check in with the Lead greeter, who will train you, let you greet with a veteran greeter to get comfy, and then you get to welcome a lot of people home.

Bigbluedoggy Are you working gate again this year? It was really nice to roll in in 2104, pull over to have placement radioed and realize I recognized someone. Alas, you happened to catch me on my one and only shift as a Lead Greeter ever (not Gate). Last year, in order to focus more on bringing ou...

Re: Coolers and Mylar, how to?
After 18 years on the playa, I have recently learned a new trick. If you use a cooler with a connector for a hose on the drain - like the big white Igloos - you can collect the melt under it if you work to keep it clean. Last year I collected as much shower water as I brought in.

Re: Simple Shower Evap?
There is only one job in camp cleanup as bad as cleaning up the black plastic evap pond - that's beating the dust out of any carpets. Honestly, just use your emergency potty buckets just before you leave and haul it out.

Hey kids, here is something good for this thread. Topless Deb has reached out to me because our Greeters "early burn" piece will be dedicated to the 4 Greeters we have lost this year. My part will be a tribute to ibDave. I get to make a burnable piece about 2 feet by 2 feet. All of you who knew and ...
