Re: cooling your tent or van
A while ago I built a Figjam bucket swamp cooler (TM) and threw in a float switch + relay + auxiliary pump that got activated once the water level went below a certain threshold instead of the main pump. This pump would then pump water into the bucket from a reservoir, saving me from the need to get...

I agree, its more of an internal joke that was apparently misunderstood here

Re: Looking for a place to clean my bike in SF
Bureaucracy meaning a task I am doing only because I have to do it. I thought this specific one could be done by someone else for money.
I don't see the problem with paying someone to do this, just as I do not see a problem with having my car washed in a car wash.

Haha, yeah. Not really wasted, what I meant is just another day of dealing with post-burn bureaucracy...

Since there's so much else on my plate I would really prefer to outsource this task, but I get what you're saying.

Looking for a place to clean my bike in SF
Hey,
Does anyone know of a place in SF where I could dump my bicycle and have them clean it/overhaul/make sure it survives until the next burn?
Unfortunately I don't have a back yard I could wash it myself
Thanks!

Re: Honda EU3000 (or equiv.) generator rental in SF
650KW.... wow. Can I see a picture of that monster?
That thing could power our entire street... heh
I haven't looked in other towns yet. We're two people leaving SF together, and not sure we can arrange someone to pick it up for us. But I'll do some yellow pages browsing, I guess
Thanks!

Tried calling a few but they know about BM and are not excited about it...
Thanks!

Re: LED regulator needs for art car?
Are your strips 5V? Assuming they are 5V and battery is 12V, you definitely want a regulator. A very simple solution that worked well for us is using a UBEC such as this - http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__15212__HobbyKing_Micro_UBEC_3A_5v.html or http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__...

Re: Maintenance free lead-acid marine batteries
Piggybacking on this - what would happen if an MPPT controller is used to feed the charge controller? Would it work and just be inefficient/not ideal or could it mess things up?
Thanksss

Re: cooling your tent or van
@ asr9754, thanks for the detailed feedback! I recall the pads seemed uniformly wet when we did the first test, but things moved around since and we should test it again.
We'll do it sometime this week. Thanks again!

Re: cooling your tent or van
We didn't see it leaking when we tested it. We'll test again and if it leaks we'll put something to space them out - should be okay, right?

Re: cooling your tent or van
Almost done building our cooler! :) It is using the Delta fan and that famous Ebay pump. In addition has a float switch and a relay that switches power to the small pump (visible outside the cooler) when the water level drops. That pump is connected to a secondary water reservoir, so that it refills...

Thats actually a great point, hah!
Re sun - we might have some R-Max panel left, so maybe we'll build a small shelter for it.

Re: Maintenance free lead-acid marine batteries
Oh, thats very good to know!
We'll have both a solar charge controller which I assume we can feed the unregulated input to (instead of feeding from the panels), as well as 110->12v charger that the RV supposedly has somewhere...

Re: Maintenance free lead-acid marine batteries
Hopefully our solar setup would be operational by the burn... and if not we supposedly have a Honda EU2000/3000 for backup.
But if not, thats a great backup backup plan. We should have a wagon...
Thanks again!

Maintenance free lead-acid marine batteries
Hello, On my latest Walmart adventure I purchased this: http://www.walmart.com/ip/EverStart-Maxx-Group-Size-29-Marine-Battery/20531539 Then I heard that the playa dust will neutralize the acid or something like that and ruin the battery. Is there any truth to this? I will be placing it outside our y...
