Re: 2018 One item a day for BM list

Today I dragged out a couple of boxes and inventoried, sorted, packed, and checked (and replaced) batteries. I'm now covered in dust :D :D

Re: Lactating Mommas: Need Advice

I'd definitely go the manual expression route for out and about. I used to be a La Leche League Leader, and I taught so many moms how to do it. Once you get going, you can really express a good amount very quickly. I think it would be MUCH easier than hauling pump parts around. Keep those at camp an...

Re: Lactating Mommas: Need Advice

Do you currently pump? (I assume so, since you mention having saved milk for baby). Use what you know in terms of equipment, and make sure you are drinking way more than you think you'll need. Also, make sure you know how to hand express in case of equipment failure: https://kellymom.com/bf/pumpingmo...

Re: 2018 One item a day for BM list

Yesterday went thrift store shopping with some friends enablers, and picked up a mesh shawl, an interesting vest, a gold cardigan, silver shorts and a tux jacket that I'm going to figure out how to embellish and make into a more feminine cut. Today I bought silver shoes, metallic skirts, and a silve...

Re: Placement of the camp?

Your post sounds very much like you're assuming all these camps are begging for members and you just have to pick which one you want to join. That's not entirely true. Many camps worth their salt aren't going to just let some random person in who happens to like where they are placed. Find a camp yo...

Re: Electrolytes for Virgins

I basically don't drink plain water on Playa. Every bottle of water I pour myself has an electrolyte tablet added to it. My personal fave is the original formula nuun, it's got a very light refreshing taste, and no sugar so it's not too sweet

Re: EL wire and clothing lights

Yes, lights on whatever you're wearing at night. Definitely. Front AND back.

For what it's worth, I've had pretty bad luck with EL Wire. It just has not been reliable for me at all. I use various pin on/tie on/necklace flashing lights that can easily be replaced if they die on you.

Re: the jitters of a first time burner

The biggest thing with the tent isn't so much the actual tent, but how you stake it down. A small backpacking tent works just fine, as long as you have either rebar or lag screws to attach it to the playa. If you do take the Burner Express in to BRC, you could camp at HOVerlandia which is the camp f...

I think you're talking about Captain Ron. He didn't take a truck last year, and I have no idea what his plans are for this year. Maybe ask on the Colorado Burners FB page.

Re: Making a class meet up on the playa

Do you have a general area you plan to camp? You could say something like "In the 6:30 and H area - look for directions on street signs. Camp has a large pink unicorn out front. Info also posted at Playa Info. " Then make sure you post directions at the nearest intersections, and make sure you remov...

Re: Has anyone else tried sewing their own clothes?

I've made short skirts with super shiny slightly stretchy fabric - great over leggings or naked legs depending on temps. A simple rectangle makes a good tube top if the fabric has enough stretch. I've also used the extra pieces of fabric to make shawls. I've knit some interesting lacy tops and a spi...

Re: 7 people seeking camp

To quote my husband when I read him this post: "I don't know who they think they are, but fuck them". 7 people ARE a camp. 7 people in RVs who have all their basic needs sorted don't need a handout from another camp. Oh, I see, you just want someone to do all the work for you, and cook your meals so...

Re: Black Rock City: No Politics Zone

Politics touches everything - even Burning Man. And what of those participants whose actual real lives involve politics on various levels? 5 gallon plastic bucket. 1 rubber toilet plunger (new of course) Hand wash laundry detergent - just a tiny bit. As little water as possible. Place item in bucket with water and soap. Re: Comedy on the playa

I love this. I think your biggest problem might be people flaking on you. Maybe an 'Open Mic Comedy' option so there are no gaps? The comedy will likely be terrible, but I'm sure there'd be willing victims volunteers. There are always volunteers at Karaoke bars even if they can't sing at all. And a ...

Re: This time I'm gonna...

I'm pretty shy, and have a tendency to say no when presented with something out of my comfort zone. This year I'm going without the husband (aka my safety crutch). Last time I did that, I said No too many times and spent too many evenings alone and not having any fun. This year I'm going to have a Y...

Re: First Time Burner From Colorado 2018!!!

Welcome! Colorado has a huge contingent that makes the trek out west every year, and a thriving burner community. I'd second everything Papa Bear said above. You definitely don't NEED to camp with a group. In fact adding a camp on top of the experience with the associated fees, required work shifts ...

Re: Any diabetic burners out there?

Yeah, I normally get 2 weeks from a sensor - anything more and my skin starts to freak out and leave welts. I was hoping to make the sensor last the whole time, but with the heat, sweat, and dust it got to the point where it was barely hanging on. No amount of retaping or adhesive helped :) Fortunat...
