Re: 2017: A Solar Odyssey
Hi Some Seeing Eye, thanks for that info. Can I just confirm I understand what this means. If I have a 100W panel, I can expect to produce 450Wh/day in BRC?

Re: Waterproofing interactive lighting controls
thanks train wreck. Our controllers all have wifi chips, so we could potentially control everything from touch screens. Although I really like the idea of tactile buttons. Capacative sliders is a good suggestion, though. Yes please send through your suggestions of suppliers and/or parts you have had...

Waterproofing interactive lighting controls
This will be my first year adding interactive lights to my installation. We will have a bunch of control panels with buttons, switches, knobs and sliders. I'm now trying to work out how to waterproof these panels. I've considered placing a small perspex roof over the panels, and participants will ha...

Reno Budget Truck burner friendly?
Hello, there are some older posts on here suggesting that Budget Truck rental on Gentry way is burner friendly. This location does not show up on their website. Maybe it has closed? Can anybody confirm whether it still exists? Instead, I have made a reservation through budget's location on Kietzke l...

Re: Travel Log
Fly to SF 14th, drive pickup to Fallon 23rd (to sort everything in my storage unit that got dumped there in hurried fashion after the burn last year), drive to playa 27th!

Re: Knots for steel and tarp shelter...
Seconding what has been said above, I rely on trucker's hitch ( http://www.netknots.com/rope_knots/truckers-hitch/ ) for pretty much every rope that needs tightening or adjustment. It's so simple, tie a loop a bit before the end of your rope, pull the end of the rope through your anchoring point and...

Re: Solar chimney + unpowered swamp cooler
I was thinking of a passive cooling system like this for this year. I've gone in an uncooled hexayurt the past 2 years and it was fine. The way I've been thinking of it, a passive system might not pump as much air as a powered system, but since I'm comfortable with no system, a passive set up should...

Re: 2014 Vehicle Pass results
From Jackrabbit Speaks Volume 19, Issue #7 For 2014, the total allotment was 35,000 vehicle passes. We never sold out. Just over 34,000 were purchased in all of our sales combined. Just before the event there were lots of passes on the secondary market, and in the end, only about 27,000 vehicle pass...

Distance to trash fence 2014
I wonder if anybody knows how far out the trash fence is this year? I've been told my installation has been placed at 11:30 & 6900, anybody know how far this will be from the fence?

Re: Airplane ride above the playa
Take me high above your Black Rock temple dancers, Your high priestesses, Your back yard inventors, Forgotten tinkerers. I want to glide above those dust ridden jalopy drivers, Crumbling space bike riders, Desert wanderers, Sandy wayfarers, Deep playa night time crawlers. Let me gaze at the neon sta...

Re: HexaYurts
Thanks to the comments on this thread, I have ordered enough tape to do the whole yurt over again, if need be. Thanks! I was thinking of adding some ventilation this year. Anybody have some tips for vents they use? I'm a bit lost in all of the options. I'm hoping to cut a hole in the wall or roof, c...

Re: HexaYurts
I didn't foil tape over my hinges last year either. When I packed it away, everything seemed fine. When I get to my storage unit am I going to find that the tape has deteriorated, or would I have known about any problems when packing up? I guess I'm going to order some extra tape, just in case. Woul...

Re: Shipping a hexayurt
Totally do-able. I did this last year, coming in from Sydney, Australia. I made a regular h12 hexayurt, ordered all the panels for pick up, had the tape delivered to a friend in SF. Spent a few hours in SF cutting the panels and tape sealing the exposed edges. Then made all of the camp-danger style ...

Hi there, I'm Owl. I live for the deep playa at night. I've been burning since 2008, I'll be bringing my first installation to the playa this year: Stargazers Anonymous. A deep playa reverie for wayward travellers, weary playa surfers and strung out desert shamans.
