Re: BLM Needs VIP treatment as well.
Erred by saying VIP my ass. That's exactly what I thought when I read that. "The number of Bureau of Land Management personnel on hand at the festival has doubled to 160 over the last five years as the peak crowd size has soared to nearly 70,000..." That sentence is bugging the crap out of me. It m...

Re: BLM Needs VIP treatment as well.
I have no name to clear... I am not a fan of 'plug and play' camps. (Although it's difficult to say that since there isn't an exact definition for that phrase.) Haven't ever been. I also don't think the people who run BM are perfect. They're making this up as they go along. Lord knows we've tried so...

Re: BLM Needs VIP treatment as well.
When I wrote my letters I tried to stress that it isn't that we don't want people coming to check the place out, but that there's no way to grasp a real understanding of the event if they are staying in luxury VIP trailers away from everyone else. And that it would basically be a complete waste of r...

Re: BLM Needs VIP treatment as well.
I have no idea if it will accomplish anything but I emailed my representative here in CA. This is a federal entity extorting a group which is primarily made up of US citizens. Not to mention being obnoxious to the citizens of Gerlach because they can't stay in Gerlach's 'primitive' accommodations.

Re: BLM Needs VIP treatment as well.
There's a lot in there that bothers me, but this is the sentence that's sticking in my head: "Seidlitz said that Washington, D.C., officials are concerned about upholding the standards of the "American public" and they will be coordinating visits to Burning Man while making other stops in the West."...

Re: Playawear Work In Progress 2015
Skirt mostly done, need to fidget with the hem some more. Corset was purchased, really wanted to make one for this year but not nearly enough hours. Podbelt is new, still working out the balance on that. Breaking in the boots because I'm afraid my old ones are going to die out there this year. Plann...

Re: Freaked out virgin
I think everybody freaks out a bit their first year. I spent most of the drive from SF to Gerlach think "wtf am I doing? this is a mistake, this is a mistake. wtf am I doing?" As soon as we hit Gerlach and traffic stopped and we got out of the car and started talking to people my brain was like, "oh...

So you had the centre pieces of your ribs attached to each other with the rope and bundled into the tarp, what did you do with the two side lengths? Were they bundled in too? That sounds like it would have been crazy heavy and awkward to get on and off a truck. The side lengths were put in right ne...

I can't comment on how that went for his camp but I thought the knot tying required for that looked too fiddly. I can! We didn't actually follow those instructions exactly. You're right, tying the knots in the middle was exceptionally fiddly. What we ended up doing was threading the rope through th...

Hey all! I'm Ali. This will be my third burn and I've been lurking around eplaya since before my first burn but apparently I've never introduced myself. Short story: I'm a farm girl from southern Indiana transplanted into the SF Bay Area. I was diagnosed with PTSD just about a year ago and burning m...

Asparagus Forest will be returning to 10 o'clock-ish (we hope) this year. We're having an Indeplayance Day celebration on Tuesday complete with lots of backyard games, burgers, hot dogs, beer and music (maybe some 80's, some oldies, some southern rock). Our backyard games will be available to play a...

Re: 2015 one item a day for BM list..
Ordered 166 yards of bright green ripstop nylon for our new dome cover.
Also ordered a bunch of fabric for fuzzy light up game-of-thrones-esque cloaks.
Now I just need to dig out the sewing area so I can get started when it all gets here.

Re: The VP mess
Our group has a bunch of people flying in from Australia. Instead of renting lots of vehicles for those people, we're renting two vans. A 12 passenger van and a cargo van. One for people, one for all of their stuff. So we'll be able to get 14 people through the gate with two vehicle passes. I get th...

Re: Theme Camp Requirement- Fire Lanes
I was thinking exactly what bigbluedoggy just said. We leave a lane open into our camp to park cars that show up after setup, but not sure how we would manage an out because of neighbors. The diagrams provided don't make a whole lot of sense unless the camp is on the corner. The fire extinguisher an...

Re: RV Rental Prices for 2015? Yurt?!
We've had camp mates rent RV's the last two years. While it was useful for getting a lot of people through the gate at once, thus using fewer vehicles, I could never sleep in one. Because you have to dust proof it you also end up making it impossible for air to circulate. It gets so stuffy. I am so ...

Re: Playa Hands - Tips to treat (or avoid) playa hands
I just wanted to second (or third or fifth) the use of bag/udder balm. It's made to sooth animals udders after milking which can become chapped and raw from rough hands and the salt content on our hands. It does wonders for feet/hands following a vinegar bath. I just use it as my regular moisturizer...

Re: Still haven't gotten your tickets?
So, I guess my concern is, if this is all going according to schedule, why can't anyone tell us what that schedule is? Like, if there is a schedule, it shouldn't be hard to tell us when the end of that schedule is so that if we are leaving home early to head to the playa, we know that we need to con...
