Re: PSA: Murder on 447 - Kill The Rabbit!

We call 447 "Dead Bunny Road", over the years we've chocked up dozens of adorable bunny murders. One thing that really helps if you want to avoid them is either get a deer whistle for your car or honk your horn every 20 seconds or so. Its annoying to do for 2 hours, but it definitely keeps them from...

Re: Bug Status Update

So I've been doing some light research into the bug-pacolypse on the Playa right now. If the entomologist is correct, then there's three main bugs, stink bugs, false clinch bugs (seed bugs), and potentially false blister beetles. The good thing about seed bugs is they typically only hang around for ...

Re: Questioning the "Spine" of monkey huts - I dont underst

One thing you could try is use a collapsible spine (IE segments that connect with fittings in a line) then run a strap/rope down the center. Attach the ends of the rope/strap together outside the spine so it makes a giant loop. Then your can tighten the crap out of the strap to get a lot of compress...

Re: HexaYurts

This will be my last comment on your design. Have you ever built a regular Hexayurt? Post again after you have done your trial build. If you then decide to take it to the playa, post up again.I have never seen the show, but somehow the title seems appropriate here. "Curb Your Enthusiasm" 1. the sho...

Re: HexaYurts

There is nothing preventing that top center triangle from twisting and then dumping all the roof panels down into the rest of the yurt. Hmm, duly noted. I suppose keeping the center panel in compression from its 3 corners downward (hanging a light or something) would help keep it stable, and I was ...

Alternative design? Let the eviscerating commence

Hi All, Multiple burner, first time hexayurt builder. I am fascinated by the hexayurt idea and would like to expand on it. I found that a stretch yurt is just a little too small while a completely 4x8 panel yurt is just a little bit too big. Additionally I don't want to crawl to enter and exit all t...

Re: 1v dome questions from a virgin burner

Thank you all for your responses, they've helped a lot. I'm currently redesigning the structure to add a false roof and side to which i can attach shade cloths. I really like the appearance of the current 2V non-standard dome. Although it won't be quite as strong as a geodesic 2V, I think that it'll...

1v dome questions from a virgin burner

Hey everyone. This will be my first burn and I would love to get the esteemed advice of seasoned burners. I am thinking of building a 1v dome out of 3/4" steel conduit with 6' strut lengths. I hoped to just use unreinforced struts for simplicity but am considering using 3' triangular reinforcement p...
