Re: Looking for Camp to Join - please help
Look, you have an RV and ten people. That's a good start for your own camp. Here's what you do: Ask around among your friends to see who else is going to Burning Man. Find about ten more people and one or two more RVs that are going. That's your camp. Start a mailing list for your camp. Decide among...

Re: Individual Sale
Yeah, looks like it sold out in 45 minutes. I'm being told that my code is not valid (it was valid an hour ago) and below that, it says "Off Sale", which I take to mean sold out. We'll see what the open market brings down the line, but I refuse to pay scalpers more than face value. I hope I'm not al...

Re: How to attach two tarps: Glue? Sew? Tape?
I like CO's idea the best. I thought I had sketches around, but can't find them. For my own dome, I wound up sewing 2"-wide velcro to the edges of the tarps. That worked incredibly well. Duct tape = bad idea. The stickum gets soft in the hot sun and the whole thing falls apart. Nuts & bolts would wo...

Re: Who plans on submitting tickets into STEP program?
I'm guessing that real burners (as opposed to scalpers) who got extra tickets will probably redistribute to others in their camp rather than submit them to STEP, which is totally understandable. If I somehow got extra tickets, I would offer them to fellow campmates first. Unfortunately, none of the...

Re: Who plans on submitting tickets into STEP program?
If I knew things were going to work out this way I would have tried to get more tickets to donate back to the STEP program. Unfortunately, the only tickets I will be receiving are going to be used by my husband and I... makes me feel bad for even having tickets in the first place :( *sigh* I feel t...

I love that little stove. Any chance of getting something like that for less than $1200? I've been shopping around with no luck.phil wrote:Any tips? Besides this I mean:
I'd really love something that looks like a retro pot-bellied stove.

I had to drill next to a major military fiber optic line that happened to run through my cleanup site in Fallon. I was sweating bullets the whole time. Luckly there was no incident. That's how the modern wilderness survival kit works: it consists of a length of fiber and a trenching shovel. If you ...

I don't see anything wrong with it. It's certainly not the first time this has been done. In fact, the big yurt camp did something similar just last year and all the participants had a great time. Lots of camps have tiered membership dues, where the more you pay, the less work you have to do. Pay e...

Re: dome strength
i am trying to build my first dome, but i want it to be strong enough to hold up aerial fabric or a trapeze. i am planning on using EMT conduit, but how thick would the bars needs to be to support weight? would 1 1/4'' thick EMT tubes work? If you connect your load from the vertices, this should be...

Everything else is free, as commerce isn't allowed at BM beyond there. Careful here. This doesn't mean that you can get things you need for free at Burning Man. This means that you need to bring whatever you need with you because you can't buy it when you get there. Total cost depends on what you d...

I saw a guy tapping on an iPhone near center camp, I asked him amusedly what he was doing. Filing his unemployment claim. I thought that was awesome. He was probably on the WiFi. That works sometime. There was an amateur-run cell tower last year, I think. You had to go to them to register your phon...

Seconded, Desert Domes is definitely your first stop. If you have Linux, you can try the software at http://geodome.sf.net/ which allows you to customize your dome and it can produce strut cutting lists and canvas cutting lists for you. Considerations: you'll be tempted to fiddle with your dome's di...

You don't have to have drugs for a dog to trigger. In practice, dogs are trained to trigger on two things: Drugs A signal from their handler And for that matter, all the handler has to do is say that the dog tugged on the leash. Who's to say that it didn't? Once they bring in the dogs, you will alm...
