Re: How does one charge 2 deep cycle 12v batteries?

Hello Beautiful Burners! The motor runs off two 12v deep cycle batteries in parallel Are you sure they are in parallel? Most of the electric assist systems I have seen are 24, 36 or even 48 volts. Using two batteries in parallel would be unusual. If the batteries are in parallel then you can charge...

Re: Electric bike build

I am not sure how you would be adapting an electric motor to your trike. But it sounds like it could end up being a vast overkill. I suppose if you have the motor and the batteries, and the skill to do the adaption it would be economical. I added electric assist to a trike and a pedicab. In both cas...

Re: Fat Tire Bikes

I second the change in gearing idea. I have a fat tire bike, single speed. While the stock gearing was fine for paved roads back home it was a bit much for the playa. Changing the gear was very easy, and didn't cost much. You can go up a tooth or two in size easily. Beyond that you might need to add...

How I charged my electric vehicles

The last three years I have gone to Burning Man with a pedicab with electric motor assist, and the last two with a tricycle with electric motor assist. The first two years I struggled keeping the batteries charged. Last year I got it figured out. What simply doesn't work is to take the batteries out...

Re: Roller bags: do they actually roll on the playa?

There will be sections where the playa surface is hard packed and your luggage wheels will roll just as if they were on concrete. There will be other areas where the surface has been pulverized into a very soft powder: think four inches of talcum powder. Luggage wheels won't roll through this. A lar...

Re: RV Advice for first-timers from Houston USA and Liverpool UK

Hello, but most sleep 4-8 so wanted to find people to share with. There is a big difference between what an RV "can" sleep and what it can sleep comfortably. A typical RV will have one full size/queen bed and then convert the sofa and dinette into beds. These beds can be cramped, a bit lumpy and ba...

Re: Using a deep cycle battery - inverters?

I am a little late joining this discussion, but I would like to comment on a few things. The original poster indicated that the desire was to run "cooling". In general, using battery power to operate cooling is not a good idea, and an even worse idea to use an inverter. The amount of power required ...

Re: Playa Bike Locks (Is there a better solution?)

I use a cable lock, with a combination lock that I can set. Master sells them and they are cheap. I figure that I don't need a high degree of security. I doubt that anyone is stealing bikes for profit, they take them because they are too lazy to walk, so if I make my bike inconvenient they will go t...

Lost - Blue cushion

I lost a simple rectangular cushion that was the seat back cushion to my pedicab. About 1-1/2 inches thick, 3 feet wide, about two feet tall. Covered in a blue fur like material. I lost it somewhere between center camp and the airport, although it was really windy that day and it might have been blo...

Re: Silly question about charging marine batteries

I know I am commenting on this really late, but perhaps it might save you some grief. I have a fair amount of experience at using 12 volts to run refrigeration. The bottom line: it doesn't work well for extended periods. Or it requires a lot of expense to make it work well. A typical 12 electric coo...

The wire that connects to the center of the socket will be the positive. Mark that wire before you cut it free. What is the current rating for the converter? For the pump? I would not be surprised if your setup fails to work for you, however. Motors in general, and pumps especially can require a LOT...

Re: Extending Electric Mutant Range Using On-Board Generator

Unless the battery charger malfunctions, or the manufacturer lied, the generator will never see more than the maximum input current as load, regardless of the charge state of the batteries or if the ...

Arriving with handicap vehicle

This will be our third burn. My wife has difficulty getting around, and simply can NOT ride a standard two wheeled bike. Re: Extending Electric Mutant Range Using On-Board Generator

You are making a hybrid. Should work fine. The key element is the "battery charger". You do NOT connect the generator directly to anything other than the battery charger. The output of the generator needs to be a little more than what the battery charger needs. It won't make any difference to the ge...

Re: Directly driving 36v golf cart with 12v genny

There is an easier way: Make your golf cart a "hybrid" The issue with an electric golf cart is that the batteries go dead, which can be a big problem if you are in the deep playa when that happens. But you have an electric, so what do you do? Set it up, bone stock as electric. Then strap your ultra ...

The main question I would ask is : How much use do you intend to get from this? Re: Convert 24 volt DC to 24 volts AC

Jon, all that gets is inverters to get 110AC. Trying to connect direct without the CB&J gets a 1/4 turn, like hooking a DC motor to AC. I think the control box was converting 24 VDC to 24 VAC since hooking to a 12 volt AC transformer at 2 amps got it to at least turn slowly. Motors need about 20 am...

Buying a used RV would be a crap shoot. You could get lucky and buy a gently used, well maintained vehicle that would provide years of trouble free service. Or you could end up with something that broke down every 100 miles and fell apart when you wanted it the most. I own a RV trailer, a fairly lar...

I could take them but I don't have time to go pick them up.

If you can get them to Milpitas by 10:00 PM tonight (Friday) I can probably get them into the rig. I'll be camping at 4:30 & J but I imagine I could run them over to your camp sometime late Saturday or early Sunday.
