Re: Questioning the "Spine" of monkey huts - I dont underst
Having been under our 14'x30' galaxy hut in some good wind I can't imagine not having a spine and having it all tied together along the spine.. After'13 we had to replace most of one side they were so permenently bent from the whole hut being pushed on so hard. We were at 7:45 & K and took the wind ...

Only thing I'd add to your plan is to keep in mind the path of the sun when you set up. I like the ends north south as much as possible. Otherwise the sun peaks in in the ends in the morning and evenings.

Re: Galaxy Hut Tarp Size
16x14 are flat dimensions. The tarp is in an arc not flat. Thus the 16x24 order to reach the ground on both sides. We've used a 30x14 galaxy hut the past few years, it's tarp is gigantic.

Re: Burlap over a carport
Has anybody ever tried building a desert submarine? It's an evaporative cooling method that's over 100 years old and involves covering sheet metal with burlap and using a drip system to keep the burlap wet.I'm not sure how well it would work with a tarp but there is plenty of wind for the evaporatio...

Re: Tent
Just beware of mesh. Most of the cheaper colemans have huge areas of unclosable mesh. I'm sure that's perfect for anyplace but the playa.
Kodiak tents are playa proven (I love mine) but not cheap. They will however stand up to years of hard use.

Re: License Plate Holder and Tail Light on the Back of Cargo
Elliot, Thank you for posting the photo. I will be installing permanent hang-down pigtails (trailer light plugs) on each of the trailer lights so that I can disconnect and connect the platform lights easily. With that big trike on the platform, my license tag could not be seen from more than a few ...

Ah, good call! Where do you get the cord that you use? I bought a 300' spool a couple years ago on Amazon. I have this cord. http://www.amazon.com/BlueWater-Accessory-Cord-Color-Blue/dp/B001830ZC6/ref=sr_1_1?s=outdoor-recreation&ie=UTF8&qid=1428396059&sr=1-1&keywords=7mm+accessory+cord This particu...

Re: Strength of ratcheting straps for carport/shade tiedown
I tie down my carport with mountain climbing accessory cord. I use 6mm as minimum that's rated at a little over 1000lbs. I would recommend using 1000lb rated or higher ratchet straps. It wasn't all that windy last year but there was a little here and there, and my carport frame didn't even wiggle. I...

I make 8,110 lbs per year of Co2e greenhouse gas from my mini copper. I did not know burning man made 50,000 tons of greenhouse gas, that would be 110,230,000 lbs that's is huge. huge? well, in relative terms, spread out over 70K people? then again, compare that, once per year, to any volcano erupt...

Re: Secure Ticket Exchange Program (STEP)
What we really need this year is a massive dust storm lasting for days, then a drenching rain which will turn the entire playa to undrivable muck. Once the news media covers this, the faint of heart will find a nice resort--with fancy hotels, hot showers, maid service and restaurants to go to. Unti...

Anyone had experience with decorating a Kodiac canvas tent? It should dye very easily but I'm not sure if that would negatively affect the waterproofing.

Re: Airless bike tires
I replaced a front tire on of my bikes with a solid tube. I don't really like it. it will obviously never go flat but it doesn't quite really fit. it feels like it's permanantly underinflated. I've kept it because it's on spare/loaner playa bike.

I think the goal is get it down to where only DGS folks get vehicle passes Everyone else will express in. That way it will be more coachella like. Wow. I read a thread about this camp on FB, and wow. I hope they never get placement again. Though I don't know how placement could ever ban someone from the playa. They could just use a different name/email/leader and try again. The placement database at the BMOrg goes back to 2000, they have lots...
