Re: Lag screws vs everything else...
Yeah, I heard that. I have a cordless circular saw that is practically worthless. My impact driver is cheap, but with a couple extra batteries, who knows? I think it's time to make the leap and I'll bring extra rebar just as a back up.

Woo Hoo! Wanderers Camp will be at 3:30 and G! Come by for hot dogs, veggie dogs and Gin & Tonic. Every day....that's right, every frigging day from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm. That's Sunday 3:30 to 5:30, Monday 3:30 to 5:30, Tuesday 3:30 to 5:30...sensing a pattern here? We will have a few surprises along ...

Re: Lag screws vs everything else...
On the topic of driving the lag screws into the playa, has anyone had success using a high torque cordless drill? High torque hammer drill? I'm trying to do without using a generator and wondering if anyone has tried or had success doing it this way.

Re: Cot vs. Blow-Up Mattress
Cot for a single. Air mattress for > 1. Agree with the above. I've had and used both. The cot is great for storage if you're alone. If you bring or expect company, the air mattress is the way to go. You could always rig some basic structure to hold the air mattress if you wanted...in fact, I may try...

Also, be aware that a car window is smashed every 15 minutes in the city. (I made that up but I'm close.)
Ratty, Does that mean in an hour and a half, *all* of my windows will be smashed?

Re: Cargo Van Rental Anxiety
Go to Harbor Freight tools. Buy a small utility trailer. Put it together. Build some basic sides for it. Attach it to your car (assuming you're not renting a car). Keep it or sell it when you get home. It's what I did after renting a van for a couple of years. Is it more expensive in the beginning? ...

I would agree with most of the advice here. There are three categories of "stolen". Things that are taken. Things that are lost. Things that are misplaced, borrowed, left somewhere... I generally recommend not bringing anything that can't be replaced. Don't bring your antique family heirloom ring or...

Re: Two virgins from Norway 2018. Help? Is our tent good enough?
All of the above is great advice. You’ll also want to bring rebar, or at the very least some very heavy duty tent stakes. The typical tent stakes provided with tents can easily pull out in strong winds sending your well prepared tent flying across the playa.

If you didn't bring enough for everybody... Honestly, make a menu. Be realistic. You know what you eat for breakfast now. I always bring enough that if I have too much, I can share with a new friend. Someone may be passing by and crackers may be just the thing. A gallon of water a day. If you put yo...

Hi Kori, I'm with the Wanderers. We're in a great neighborhood on the 3:30 area. Some of my absolute favorite camps on our side of town are DeMenthe (mojitos, misters and great DJs), Cereal Camp--serving...well, you get it..., Nothing Butt Art, of course, Barbie Death Camp and village, Champagne Lou...

I realize this may not be possible for everyone, but I would suggest camping on your own and while at the event actively seek people for social connections. I'm not saying you have to be a social butterfly, but engage in conversation, invite someone to share a snack or meal, see what their tastes ar...

Re: how does a regular tent hold up at Burning Man?
You know, I have used a Springbar tent for the last 6 years. All canvas. It holds up extremely well, does not allow any dust and is very roomy. I had the manufacturer see an exterior flap in the window to replace the interior flap so that when I opened it, the dust that had collected inside the mesh...
