Re: Afterburn bike care: Wiping + vinegar mist?
Per Rhino from several years ago and me trying it over several Burns, use CAlgon, or White Rain (cheaper). Makes water wetter. I think Rhino said it is an ionic surfecant. I can't find either of these laundry water additives in my area so far. Is there something special about them/in them, or would...

Re: Afterburn bike care: Wiping + vinegar mist?
So all those vinegar sprays, baths, wipes ... where folks dilute the vinegar an order of magnitude are just feel-good motions So all us non-chemists are wasting our time using any strength of vinegar on our hands or feet while at Burning Man? And in our laundry once home? Is there anything that wou...

Afterburn bike care: Wiping + vinegar mist?
I've been thinking what to do to minimize bike rusting, besides just dry-wiping. Maybe dry-wipe, then mist with pure vinegar, followed by more wiping.

Re: Good ways to help Gerlach/Empire?
It seems like it would if you’re buying from the Gerlach proprietors and not the pop up shops. Unless those pop ups are run by Getlachians Yeah. Though presumably even if they're non-Gerlachians, they're still paying someone in Gerlach for use of space, probably a town permit too, and they're proba...

Good ways to help Gerlach/Empire?
I noticed in the comments to the BLM during the EIS that some people in Gerlach don't feel we give them much economic boost in return for all the inconvenience, because we've already bought everything before driving through. I'm thinking, I don't know, maybe I'd still shop in Reno, but in Gerlach bu...

Re: BRC sun/wind direction map?
A map of the 2019 street layout was in the survival guide that came with my tickets last week. Looks like 4:30 is true south and 7:30 is true west.... ZOMG, there's useful info in the Survival Guide this year?!? Who'd'a thunk? True north/south...hard to tell, the North arrow is so short. Do you thi...

Re: BRC sun/wind direction map?
Any of you space-and-time-and-BRC geniuses know which way North will align with the city for 2019? The last few years the 2:00 road seems to consistently line-up quite closely with West/sunset. Where can I find good info about the city's geographic placement/alignment? Does BMOrg publish something u...

the long-running RV Camper's Survival Guide... is no more. The helpful guide that had been linked to have unfortunately gone away and the site replaced with generic adverts. Re: BRC sun/wind direction map?
At least since 2014 (I don't know about earlier), the city/sun alignment has been consistent. Does anyone know why? It can't be for "sunrise over The Man", the alignment is bad for that. Someone proposed it's so the airport runway can be on one side of the pentagon, and line-up well with proper wind...

Re: Why isn't 12 o'clock North?
Since 2014 (at least), the alignment for "sunrise over The Man" has been very poor (see maps in https://eplaya.burningman.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=78496) Maybe it's the pentagon/airport runway/wind thing. The only possibly-intentional "sun alignment" I see, is that 2:00 road seems to consistently lin...

I know. But from what I was told, lots of Californian E.A. holders tend to hit the Gerlach area Friday evening. When is the Friday evening E.A. "California Burn Rush"?
In 2015 I went in on Friday night early arrival, passed Gerlach around 8pm...and promptly hit a huge crowd on the dust road to BRC. Partly that was the dust-storms, but partly, I'm told, is because many Californians with E.A. that aren't far work a half-day or full-day Friday, then head to BRC after...

Re: BRC sun/wind direction map?
If you have a choice of 4:30 to ~ 6:00, setting up at 4:30 lets you just point the opening towards the man and be done with it. I'm confused. If you're at 4:30, pointing towards The Man, isn't that north? (is that true north or magnetic north?) I still don't understand why 103 is the magic angle. I...

Re: BRC sun/wind direction map?
New version of the sun / wind map with maximum shade angle information So I'm curious, what makes 103 the maximum shade angle? I'd think the best angle would be whatever bisects the 6am and 8pm sun angles. The 103 angle seems to track too far sunrise-wards. Which would allow more light invasion at ...

Re: BRC sun/wind direction map?
103 degrees is facing East South East, facing the morning sun. Jeez all this math and declinations and latitudes and stuff. Makes my head hurt. And the sun doesn't travel in a perfect straight line over your head. So if you have "perfect" shade on both ends at sunrise...as the day wears-on, you'll ...

Which is about what I did last year with my hut. Made it north/south oriented. Worked-out well. Good shade. Got some wind through for cooling. Even though I use a tarp, which is pretty wind-blocking.Token wrote:283 - 77 / 2 = 103 degrees. That would maximize shade.

BRC sun/wind direction map?
Every year I've found a BRC map that shows sun & wind directions. Even to the point it details how the sun doesn't travel in a perfectly straight line as it rises & sets. Anyone know of such a map for 2016? I know that generally looking Center Camp->Man = roughly looking at sunrise, and the stronges...

When I offer a ride via the BM rideshare site, I can check "open minded". What does that mean? It looks like you MUST turn it on, so I guess it's just BMOrg being amusing?

Some good guesses. >Innate differences in the playa soil/microclimates, since the City is generally in the same general location, areas toward the east are natively softer, due to some underlying effect of the geology/geography/hydrology of the region. Interesting, read this in the BM blog:
The city is always laid out the same way, so you’ll always see the sun coming up behind the Man as you stand in Center Camp.
