Re: Hookah on the playa. Have anyone done that?
Come stop by Playasophy in the 3:00 Plaza (1:00 position in the circle at intersection 3:00 & B) for hookah and iced coffee during the week! We'll be doing this every afternoon Tuesday-Saturday, it's a great way to beat the heat.

Re: License Plate Holder and Tail Light on the Back of Cargo
Strictly speaking, In California, the plate has to be permanently mounted to the vehicle. Zip tied to a bike wont cut it. The light also has to be permanently mounted and wired as to shine on the plate to make it visible from 50 feet and to come on when the parking lights do. A duct taped flashligh...

Re: Hexayurt floor tarp taping strategy?
We kept a 6" lip of foam material under the door when we cut it out - this allows for both the tarp to fasten to the inside and for some foam structure to reinforce the panel. We didn't have a problem tripping on the foam because of small wooden ramps on either side - this also helped reinforce the ...

Re: Hexayurt floor tarp taping strategy?
We cut the hexagon for our tarp about 1' larger (overall) than the floor of the yurt. After all the walls are up and the yurt is pinned down we have 2 people go in and unroll the tarp (like you would a carpet) from the far side of the yurt towards the door. The tarp is taped up to the walls with bif...

aaaand a totally different tangent, but an EDM camp has released their lineup for Burning Man way ahead of time yet again. Re: Cargo Vans for hexayurt transport.
We ran into this problem last year - yurts will fit into a cargo van, but *JUST* barely. In the end we found it easier to wrap the foam panels in tarp and plywood and tie/ratchet strap them down to the roof of the van so we could use the interior space for less rectangular things (bikes, art, you na...

Re: future of burning man?
As someone coming from California, I'm pretty sure my (lack of) water use during the week of BM offsets just about anything else I might generate along the way. The state estimates the indoor use of water per capita at around ~100 gallons per day http://ww2.kqed.org/lowdown/2014/01/23/how-much-water...

Figjam, I'm sure you had some questions about how turnkey camps are evaluated and placed prior to this article being written. Does it answer ANY of them? We’re often asked why we even placed Turnkey camps if they didn’t meet our standard for public interactivity. It’s an excellent question. ...and o...

Did you guys end up meeting up? I stopped by the blanket/sign a couple times but the only people I saw there were non-eplayans so I left a poorly scrawled note for Ratty.

If I had put together a bucket list a year ago, Burning Man would definitely be on it. It wouldn't be crossed off yet, though - I've attended exactly once and that's hardly the full experience I'm looking for.

What worked: 1-pot meals! chili, ramen, stroganoff, curries (some with a pot of rice on the side) were a fantastic way to feed 30 hungry campmates at once. Ingredients could be bought in bulk and nothing but the meat and some veggies needed refrigeration. What didn't: grilled cheese, bacon (without ...

If anyone is not sure what "speech jamming" really means, play around with http://stutterbox.co.uk/ (webapp) for a bit - it's amazing what just a little bit of reverb/delay will do to your brain. It's not really a hi-tech solution to the Dancetronauts' volume so much as "you're being an obnoxious fu...

Not really looking to go crazy prep-wise other than essentials the first year, I just w...
