Re: A solution to suicides (at the man burns/ temple burns)

But if you ask me why a 41 year old married man with young kids would run into the flames, my guess would be that he thought it would be really great fun. While a wife and young kids be an incentive for most of us to continue living, it very well could be the opposite for someone suffering depressi...

Exactly so. Both ends of the spectrum provide amenities for a price - it's just a matter of degree.

I think you're right. The wet playa adheres to tires causing divots where it pulls away from the road. Those depressions now pool water making it more likely they will be wet and repeat the process.

Re: Messages getting stuck in outbox

I'd argue vbulletin, which was the beast of boards, did not use this concept. Correct, VBulletin tracks messages with a read receipt which permits you to see which of multiple recipients have read the message. In one way the phpBB system is more usable as it permits you to edit the message in the O...

I have always been under the impression that E-Playa was an information based blog to assist burners and potential burners regarding all the different aspects of the Burning Man Project and not a back and forth dialog based run-of-the-mill chatty social media site. In my opinion, not having 'Like' ...

It is the height of hubris to suggest that since those people didn't haul every bit of gear they used personally, that they somehow aren't the people who really contribute and make the event happen. It's utterly ridiculous to accuse them of not caring about radical self-reliance, decommodification,...

Re: PVC based shade structure over 10X14 Kodiak tent advice

The trick with the figjam bucket is a strong fan, and a place for the air to exit. We hook ours directly to a little solar panel, because we only need it when the sun is up. It sits outside the tent, with the snorkel coming in the side of the front door, and the back window sipped open just a bit. ...

Re: PVC based shade structure over 10X14 Kodiak tent advice

I've decided that instead of modifying my monkey hut to fit the kodiak, I will use the figjam cooler if it gets to hot. Im an early riser and rarely take inside naps while at the burn. I've used a figjam cooler with my unshaded Kodiak 10x10 the past two burns. It does not push enough air through th...

Left camp at 7:21 PM Sunday, pre Temple burn. Hit pavement at 4:41 AM Monday. Sat in the same spot in exit queue for nearly 6 hours without moving between 9:00 PM and 1:30 AM. Clearly the gate road was closed during that time, but I've yet to see an explanation why.

Re: Anyone have feedback on a Kodiak 10x10 ft tent?

Did you also have an exhaust fan or vent? The evap doesn't work well without a vent to release that heat laden moist air. That said, I had some friends mention that their evap cooler needed substantially more airflow and water than they had expected for their tent. No exhaust fan, but the Kodiak 10...

JohnEBGud, if you don't mind my asking, how powerful a fan were you using? (How many CFM?) Wondering if it's the actual design that's the issue or the implementation details. I used the one specified by FIGJAM. AFB1212SHE-CF00. 190 CFM. Delta Fans DC Fan Axial Ball Bearing 12V 6V to 13.8V 190.48CFM...

not to hijack, but curious if any 10x10 owners are also using figjam's 5 gallon evap cooler and if you found it powerful enough to cool the Tent. I tried that last year with my 10x10, but no, it was not powerful enough. It's possible my cooler wasn't working optimally, but there's really too much v...
