Re: How 'BIG' is burning Man (Physical size of site)

Good question. The numbers are from the BLM info on the EIS. When I went to the BLM town hall meeting in Reno, the biggest complaint from the public during the question/answer period is the BLM could not answer questions.

Hey Token, this is for you. Amazing what the film industry got away with in 1968. "Peter Sellers is a disaster-prone actor from India who is at first thrown off the set by the producer of a film then invited to his posh Hollywood party."

Re: How 'BIG' is burning Man (Physical size of site)

At 80,000 people it is a 3,900 acre pentagon for BRC perimeter (Alternative A) 4,000 acres is 6.25 square miles.

At 50,000 people it is 3,410 acres (Alternative B)

It's big. Tell her to get a trike.

Re: Virgin Burner Couple Looking for an RV to share

Last cargo van I bought in Reno - 1999 Chevy with 175k miles ran no problems, only thing I bought was tires - for $2000. Two burns later sold it for $2500. Platform bed queen size foam......comfy.

Well, it does say eplaya.burningman.org at the header. So yes, we are part of burning man communications dept.

Too bad we can't help him get tickets. Or placement. Or a 'grant'. But we can tell him where to go.

Re: Virgin Burner Couple Looking for an RV to share

Hello! you don't say where you are coming from, but my advice to first timers is to keep it simple! Rent a cargo van, get an inflatable bed, camp gear and check it out. RVing is nice, but a lot of work to clean after the event. As far as sharing, that's a whole bunch of potential drama. Basic: shade...

Hey paper - this eplaya board has nothing to do with the burning man organization. Nada.

For tickets: go to the burning man webpage, click on 'events' and click on tickets for all the info and dates.

Good luck with that! Thanks for the entertaining post.

Re: Pop up tent trailer vs. Wind? Virgin Q

I will try to answer your questions, but sounds like you should do some research on your own. The Vehicle Pass is the only cost for your truck and trailer. Yes the trailer can and should stay attached to the truck. Unless you are in a theme camp, you just park in general camping and say hello to you...

Re: 10 Yr Environmental Impact Statement (Includes Relating to Culture)

After reading some of the EIS and attending the town hall BLM meeting in Reno last Monday, it appears what the BLM wants is to 'limit the impact on the playa' With alternative plan B the population cap would be 50K and most of the crazy mitigations go away. The culture is a different story. The cap ...

Any one that would send money to an unknown person, fly half way across the world, arrive in the desert without food-water-shade, have no way of bailing out, is really asking to be taken advantage of or suffer. Not very self reliant to say the least. I don't get it. I have met plenty of internationa...

Stick with the cruiser, gear it down - either change the front chain wheel or back hub. Sit upright and go slow.

Re: How much grey water to plan for?

Evap ponds are gross! I think you are on the right path - have every person be responsible for their grey water. Makes them think about it. Ask them how much water they are bringing in and plan to haul out about half. I keep the cooler water clean and sprinkle it on the road with a garden can or use...

Yeah, the unknown unnamed plug and plays are out there. A few years ago while I was there during build week helping the temple crew with their generators, I was riding the outer ring and ran into another electrician from Reno. He was there "making double time" setting up a gen set and power distribu...

Thanks Chef for the update. Gotta say last year I was turned off by the ebike explosion. Too many going too fast! Let's face it - a fat tire electric motor bicycle is a MOTORCYCLE. So what if it has pedals, the things go 20 mph no problem. I will stick to my old trusty schwinn cruiser - I have thoug...

We left Friday before the man burn, it was cake. They scanned our vp at the gate, as there were burners waiting to get in. Having gone in a week early to help with an art build, leaving early was easy. Missed the weekend warriors, the big burns and seeing all the trash/bikes abandoned on playa was ok.

I carry my wallet with me. Everywhere I go, its safer with me than in my car/yurt/camp. If I fall over dead, at least the medic will know who I am. Our bar asks for ID - at our age (40+) it's prety easy to spot a fake or underage. We just ask them to move over for the next patron. Cap't is right. Ag...

Heavy Duty brown canvas tarp under the shade, with smaller carpets. Regular tent stakes. White canvas painters drop cloths in the mini yurt. Stay away from poly blue tarps! One year (the year it rained) a campmate spent hours pulling out blue threads from the playa.
