Yeah, the unknown unnamed plug and plays are out there. A few years ago while I was there during build week helping the temple crew with their generators, I was riding the outer ring and ran into another electrician from Reno. He was there "making double time" setting up a gen set and power distribu...

Chuck, I started to write a reply about power distribution and how expensive and time consuming it is (I am an electrical contractor, been there done that) and in my opinion solar/battery or a small honda eu2000 is better (self reliance). Then I saw ratty's post and realized you have no clue. Have y...

I too found eplaya super helpful before my first time, things like fig jam cooler and two person 6 foot stretch yurt. I did my homework before class and was really comfortable. I mostly agree with captain and token on their views!

Be careful of the rental agreement. My friend only found one company in the bay area that was ok with playa use last year.

Re: Updated Vehicle Rules and Protocols at Burning Man

Thanks Chef for the update. Gotta say last year I was turned off by the ebike explosion. Too many going too fast! Let's face it - a fat tire electric motor bicycle is a MOTORCYCLE. So what if it has pedals, the things go 20 mph no problem. I will stick to my old trusty schwinn cruiser - I have thoug...

The principles are fine. What is needed is for the people to read and follow them. Too many clueless peeps!

I was thrilled to see something very dangerous. I went the night it opened (sunday?) and there were people all over it. Saw a guy get on the end of a car jumping up and down, freaking out the others on the car. Saw a guy go hand over hand down one of the cables with lights. After staring at it for 2...

Re: 2018 Exodus / Traffic, stories

We left Friday before the man burn, it was cake. They scanned our vp at the gate, as there were burners waiting to get in. Having gone in a week early to help with an art build, leaving early was easy. Missed the weekend warriors, the big burns and seeing all the trash/bikes abandoned on playa was ok.

I carry my wallet with me. Everywhere I go, its safer with me than in my car/yurt/camp. If I fall over dead, at least the medic will know who I am. Our bar asks for ID - at our age (40+) it's prety easy to spot a fake or underage. We just ask them to move over for the next patron. Cap't is right. Ag...

Heavy Duty brown canvas tarp under the shade, with smaller carpets. Regular tent stakes. White canvas painters drop cloths in the mini yurt. Stay away from poly blue tarps! One year (the year it rained) a campmate spent hours pulling out blue threads from the playa.

I drove it last week, from Denio past the mine at sulfur to trego then across the playa to gerlach. Parts of it are rough and I would not recommend it on the way to BM. Stay on the pavement!

Go for the 10x10 flat top shade made from 1" EMT, for about $100 of parts. You won't regret it.

Shade - Water - Bike are the top three on my list.

Re: How to stabilize generator for art car

Hey there Getting clean power out of a diesel(?) generator can be tricky. If there is a steady load the power will fluctuate less. You may have to condition the power at each point of use with a UPS for the most sensitive parts. Generators designed for home use (usually natural gas) have more power ...

EMT flat tops work well. Attached to the rack with an air space, and side wall on the driver side. Silver tarp out, black side down, stretched with bungee balls. Parts from the yuma store. I park the slider door to the lee side. I am a big fan of flat tops, they are playa tested. Luigi @ VW Bus Camp

Hi Clay Sounds like you need: 12 volt bilge pump with a float switch (so it only turns on when the float says it is needed) Deep cycle 12 volt battery Charge controller (to avoid over charge of battery) Solar panel The key to your question is the size of your pump and how long it will run (how many ...

Good question - what direction? It appears bmorg has gone down a road of no return. I took this year off - just did not have the prep time, energy and cash to make it, even though I am a Reno local.
