Well that is like the yo mtv cribs of yurts right there. Impressive setup for your first year! Did you build your swamp cooler?

What would you do different next time?

Re: Where to set up camp? Solo virgin Burner

One place not to set up is the road. My first year some folks came along in the middle of the night and set their tent up there. I think it worked...for a few hours. Don't know where they went after that.

What day are you coming in? If you time it right with HOVerland, you might be able to squeeze in there Wednesday afternoon.

Re: Looking for tent and shade feedback

I would recommend planning to have two lines per pole. You may be okay if the wind really passes through, but if it gets strong, it can really blow stuff over. It can get frustrating fast if one goes over and getting them all upright again is challenging. This is maybe way too late to mention, but w...

Re: ? List of repair camps, bikes and otherwise?

I can take this on. I needed this last year when my prewar steel frame came apart. I really thought I was out of luck until someone said they do welding at Wonder. I'll format this tomorrow and post a sample here for an edit or two, and a final so that people can print their own. I can also bring a ...

Hmm. Evaporative towels like, for the neck? I see they are like high tech fiber bandannas basically, is that how you see them?

Also, what kind of cooling mats did you get? For a pillow?

Not in instead, but both. Now you're talking. A shaded tent, with a fan, and a damp top sheet over you, you will sleep an extra 2 hours. I guarantee it.
Do you just dunk a sheet in water and wring it out when you wake up in the heat?

Burning man is amazing but counting on medical airlift to attend is a whole other level. We want octogenarians but is there a reasonable cutoff for general wellness in participation at this event?

As noted canvas is good until it gets wet. It cakes playa instantly from a cooler or glass spill in a bad way. If it rains you might as well cancel the man burn it is over.

Ok I was wondering because they look a lot like the Kelty poles. It looks like a few different competitive aluminum alloy poles exist now. I’ve used kelty exclusively in the past. Please post a follow up on how they held up.

Re: Low-price bulk American Bottom Bracket Kits

I did, wonder camp did an in-field weld of the chain stays at the bottom bracket. It is a decent weld too. Not perfect but part of the reason the frame separated was because I was riding it through unbelievable friction not knowing I needed to or how to overhaul the BB. I actually learned a lot at e...

Re: Low-price bulk American Bottom Bracket Kits

Yes, although I didn't have any problems with mine from 2014-2016, and I didn't even service the BB between any of the events. Maybe it was just too long without working on it for last year.

Re: Low-price bulk American Bottom Bracket Kits

Was it really dusty last year? I thought it was the heat but maybe it was both. There were just a ton of messed up bikes, but maybe it was confirmation bias based on what I had. You could sort of anectodally hear it, the screeching bikes pedaled down the street, hours away from complete failure. Oka...

Here's another question for you, do you think Mobil grease 28 is reasonable for use with general bb repair? I have a lot of this left over from a motor build and would be nice to have it for the dab these jobs require.

I would be happy with a solid bulk bearing ring provider too. I agree that in most cases the entire set doesn't need to be handled. Retail, that's still something like $7-8 a pair. Hoping to find something cheaper.

Its true. I worked on a project for a certain major art car and we needed a trench. It was like when they call in napalm during Tropic Thunder. Some guys show up and we have a trench right on esplanade in under 30 mins it was crazy. I was like, "How? I don't even let a drip of toothpaste touch the g...

I have gotten really good at overhauling bottom brackets on standard cruisers. Re: cooling your tent or van

Easy thing to overlook as the bucket cooler is opposite - takes outside air in. So are our car AC units that pull air into the cab unless you explicitly put it in recirculate. Right, I also thought of the freestanding portable ac units and I believe those also pull air in from outside. Anyway, not ...
