Re: Reasonable Honoraria Funding Request Vs. Total Budget

So great to be reaching out like this. Spacetime, How many people will be involved? (Or are you doing it all?) How early will you need to arrive for setup? Will your project be out in the open playa or in the burbs? Tomorrow's the Artumnal. It's going to be glorious. I can't wait. I have three peop...

Re: Reasonable Honoraria Funding Request Vs. Total Budget

I posted this in a Facebook group and connected with someone in my community who has two successful grants under their belt. They looked at my detailed budget and were able to give feedback on my application too. I got a lot of other useful feedback on this topic: Ratty was right although the genera...

Re: Reasonable Honoraria Funding Request Vs. Total Budget

Okay. I substantially scaled down my previous design, and am building in a fair amount of buffer. I'm tempted to ask for more than half though, as the overall cost is not that high and I think still a solid impact.

Reasonable Honoraria Funding Request Vs. Total Budget

I am looking for guidance on how much of funding to request in my art Honoraria request versus the total budget of the piece. For example, if your budget is $5000, would it be appropriate to ask for up to 80% of that cost to be covered by the grant? If not, what kind of range would be seen as reason...

Glad this is still happening. I suspect this will be the seed community for burn folks gathering in VR.

Any thought of moving to High Fidelity?

I will sign on this week and try to post some updated photos.

Re: 55 gallon drums and water storage

I echo the heart in right place comment and also any thinking about the burn in off season I think leads to better burns. That said, Portland, Oregon drained a 38 million gallon reservoir a few years ago because one guy peed in it. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/apr/17/portland-flush-38m-gal...

Re: What’s the best way to hang/suspend things inside a yurt?

Thanks for all the additional detail about your decision to go. There is a lot of derision of turnkeys and neo-drainbows at the burn. But at least anecdotally your particular story says the burn is still not only approachable but winnable when capable people truly self-select in. That’s cool you did...

Re: What’s the best way to hang/suspend things inside a yurt?

Your prep sounds top notch. I’m impressed by it. What other events have you guys done that led up to you doing burning man? My original prep fit in a few cubic feet as pictured here . It went in bus cargo. In more recent years my friend and I did a yurt strapped to the top of a fully packed sedan wi...

Re: What’s the best way to hang/suspend things inside a yurt?

Thanks for the additional details. What kind of bed frame did you use where you were able to put storage under it? That sounds really good. Also it sounds like you had a fair amount of gear, did you use a trailer for all of that? Rambling is good, I'm interested in details of what people learn about...

What would you do different next time?

One place not to set up is the road. My first year some folks came along in the middle of the night and set their tent up there. I think it worked...for a few hours. Don't know where they went after that.

Re: Looking for tent and shade feedback

I would recommend planning to have two lines per pole. You may be okay if the wind really passes through, but if it gets strong, it can really blow stuff over. It can get frustrating fast if one goes over and getting them all upright again is challenging. This is maybe way too late to mention, but w...

I can take this on. I needed this last year when my prewar steel frame came apart. I really thought I was out of luck until someone said they do welding at Wonder. I'll format this tomorrow and post a sample here for an edit or two, and a final so that people can print their own. I can also bring a ...

Not in instead, but both. Now you're talking. A shaded tent, with a fan, and a damp top sheet over you, you will sleep an extra 2 hours. I guarantee it.
Do you just dunk a sheet in water and wring it out when you wake up in the heat?

As noted canvas is good until it gets wet. It cakes playa instantly from a cooler or glass spill in a bad way. If it rains you might as well cancel the man burn it is over.
