what I've done in the past is buy a shower shelter, a plastic washing machine pan from lowesdepot, an oil drain pan from pepzone, and a 12v shower pump. set up shelter. make hole in washing machine pan. build small platform large enough to hold pan and high enough to slip the oil drain pan underneat...

Re: I have a small circus tent and I need a camp!

you can do some trolling... we had excellent placement on Rod's Road last year and due to some flakey campmates, had extra space. We gave some to our neighbors (overbooked and overbuilt!), and on tuesday, a nice person with a tent came by and we let her camp with us as well. The playa provides, but ...

On The Weather Channel, which city should I look at to have an idea of how is weather on the playa? Gerlach? for real-time info, take a look at the Gerlach Web Cam . The city will be out on the playa, (I think) somewhere in the distance between the tallest tree (on the left of the image) and the TV...

If you're totally self-sufficient and want no dues... consider Hushville (will also meet your requirement for noise levels).

Registration is open until August 20.

Gao is constructing faster than posting, so I'd thought to help him out. As you can see, he has wheels, platform, tow bar, bike, test goddess, and cigar in place. I can confirm that he is going to use a solid wood axle made of red oak. In the photo, he's mocked up his proposed ride height (looks to...

I don't know the etiquette of what I'm about to advocate... but your first arrivals might try to arrive with as much 'infrastructure' as possible. I would include in my definition of infrastructure: shade structures, evap ponds, shower facilities, and tents. you can always re-pack the infrastructure...

Driving, leaving 27th, staying in fernley, then early morning playa arrival on 28th.

I've been watching the weather... it seems a bit more 'active' than previous years. Would like to avoid arriving during dust storm or lake-generating rainstorm.

After I'm placed, not too worried about the weather.

I wish I knew I would end up not visiting all (any?) of the cool camps and art projects I read about before arriving.

but this happens to me every year.

Oh, and YMMV, but don't walk around barefoot or in sandals. or any open-toed footwear.

my car uses twice as much fuel driving on the playa than on paved roads. maybe golf carts have similar increased fuel consumption?

OP, you may want to join the Hushville mailing list at Yahoo Groups. Hushville will be quiet. It is a large camp with theme camps, sub-villages, and individual campers within. You may find that others in Hushville are doing a gluten-free menu, and you might be able to pool resources with them. The b...

if you can possibly manage it... buy a playa-only tent/sleepingbag/thermarest. I assume you've invested in some high-dollar lightweight gear. it would be a shame to ruin it all at burning man. put your hiking gear (pack and all) in a water proof bag (garbage bag?) and don't open it at burning man. Just off the op of my head, the weak point in the brolly seems to be the inversion effect. What if you open the bumpershoot , then sew some unstretchable strap around the outer edge. This would make it impossible to invert, but still be closable. you'd need to source some 'unbendable' ribs as well....

If you are planning on riding to burning man from the south, and returning on the same path, be sure to buy a couple of fore-n-aft-facing gopros, so your relatives/heirs will be able to prosecute the driver who ran you off the road. take a look at the 447 with google maps streetview, and take a look...

This is how I broke down the different kinds of inverters available when I went searching: fanless, temp-controlled fan, or fan-always-on: I could only find fanless inverters 150 watts or less. I stayed in a tent for 3 burns. depending on what 'wakes you up' in the night, tents might be good enough. Unless you're a glutton for punishment, I suggest buying 20L NATO fuel cans, and a leak-proof nozzle (representative images below). The latest cali-carb mandated fuel containers are so difficult to use and deliver fuel so slowly... one loses that mellow playa vibe in a hurry. I can also suggest that...
