Re: Sun/wind map for BRC?

The city is in the exact same orientation and less than a mile from where it was last year. So if you have a map from 2014 (which sounds awesome, can you share it?) it should still be valid for 2015.

YAAAAAAY!!!! So happy for you!

(Wondering now if the tent still fits turned the other way - it would completely block the hut, but you'd have an easier time getting in the door, and could store stuff behind the tent. Anyway. Possible future experiment.)

1. There is never "very little wind present" on the playa. We do frame first, then guylines, and only then roof & wall tarps. If you have a lot of frame I like to get about 2 squares of it up and then add the rest 2 squares at a time. 2. Up to you. Is it easier to use the next two weeks to cut down ...

Re: 24 ft truck rental needed! Help! (Bay Area)

Doherty's Trucks in El Cerrito is a Budget outpost - but they also have their own trucks, which you have to call them directly to reserve. They rent 15-foot and 24-trucks. The Doherty's rate will cost you (lower per-day cost and higher per-mile than Budget) but you may be willing to take that. So th...

Re: I need an adult: A screwed up Monkey hut story.

Just re-read to check and noticed two things: - How long are the sleeves that connect each pair of ribs? They look pretty long on your hut - are they 2.5 feet as in the original lovemonkey hut? You can safely shorten them to 1.5 feet and gain a lot of loft that way. - When I first read your plan for...

WALL OF TEXT follows. Sorry. Hopefully it's a wall of text that helps you or someone else. Don't panic! It's likely fixable without too much redesign or additional supplies. 1. Sag! Sag isn't really a problem as long as the hut clears your tent and everything stays connected. But there are some comm...

I am under the impression that putting up a slide without a fence around it and letting people climb it and slide down it is pretty commonplace at BM. As is getting friction burns or sprains while going down said slide(s). And yet, it seems that burners don't [frequently] sue each other over these ...

8' ceilings will require I bring a ladder. There is a balance of being too low (hot ceiling and air layer at head level) and too high (poor wind load handling). Re: How to sell phys. tickets to specific non-local stranger

eBay actually has a private or reserved listing option. I will look into how egregious the fees are and what sort of "seller protection" might be offered - that definitely covers buyer protection. If it seems like a fit, I'll report back Quick non-exhaustive search indicates eBay may have previousl...

eBay actually has a private or reserved listing option. I had no idea! Re: Stretched hexayurt: Internal frame a good idea?

I think the cognitive dissonance you are running into is that most people's idea of a hexayurt (stretched or not) includes the feature that it doesn't require internal bracing because of its near-geodesic shape and the size/strength capacity of the panels. Thus the comment that "you are building som...

You could have permanent measuring sticks (pieces of PVC) that hold the ribs apart an even distance, built into the monkeyhut structure itself. Run them down the length of the monkeyhut, sort of like a spine. Ooooh, I like it. Maybe even fasten them in somehow, so you don't have to hold them in the...
