Re: Geodesic Dome w/ crows nest
The Thunder Dome has dozens of people climbing all over their dome. Wonder what they use? I believe that http://pacificdomes.com/ build Death Guilds dome. They are using 3/4 inch EMT I believe, and I am unsure on washer or bolt specs. This was a purchased package, not something that they built them...

Re: Canada Sources
We are in Alberta and are having a very hard time finding some stuff here. ITs brutal to be honest. YSBW does not ship to Canada, while their prices are low, once you factor in shipping to a buddy then shipping up and possible duties your hozzed. Creative Shelters does ship to Canada, but their pric...

Re: Flattop shade design questions
We are going with an EMT structure, molded after GreyCyote and Foosa's deisgns, after doing much much research. The idea is to do a 30x20 1inch structure, using 14 inch lag bolts on footsies and the x method using ratchet straps. We are going to try and do a few sides as well. There are some other c...

Re: Ah the almightly dome
Well we finally got around to getting a press. Having a hell of a time finding a hydraulic\pneumatic one in town. Will have to order a good one. I fully expect this one to fail, due to its leaking. Were using 9.5 tons of pressure maximum. The die fits in it very nicely, and as long as the steel is w...

Where are you flying in from? Would save you a whack of cash if you can get in on one of the caravans\group drives. There are already about 6 caravan plans that we know of, 1 from BC, 4 from Alberta (there are 50++ burners here with tickets so far), 2 from Ontario\Quebec. Face book groups are your f...

http://blog.burningman.com/2015/02/news/gah-vehicle-passes-sold-out-before-tickets-did/ Love this on the main page. So what about the rumors of people sneaking to the front of the line? Unfortunately there is some truth to this. Approximately 200 people created a technical ‘backdoor’ to the sale an...

This is what I get when I click on my presales link. This is to the comment that there were vehicle passes left in the pre-sales queue.
So unless there is another way to get in.

Re: Ticket Question \ transfer \ names
It isn't abusing the system at all. Though in my personal opinion when someone buys the presale to hedge ther bets (where they buy the presale, and then try to sell that presale on at full face value once they've secured cheaper tickets at a later date) is an incredibly jerk-tastic thing to do. All...

If you requested will call or were forced to use will call because of the country you are in, then they have a name attached to them for pick-up. If you are having them mailed to you then they are just tickets. No name on them. Yup just mailed, were in Canada. So sale of my presale tickets to anyon...

Ticket Question \ transfer \ names
So we have purchased presales tickets because we want to go. While these tickets are expensive that is OK, but obviously it would be nicer if they were cheaper hehe. Our plan is to purchase tickets in the regular sale too, if this goes sideways we still have presales to rely upon. My question here i...

Re: Wire rope load limit
I am unsure if the carabiner weight capacity will meet your requirements though, for the 70mph winds. When in doubt, over engineer it. Most climbing-rated (UIAA) carabiners are rated to 22-25 kN along their major access, or about 5000 lb, which will be plenty for almost any application. If you sear...

Re: Wire rope load limit
With mule tape its very strong, and should handle the wind with no issue, even in a bouncing situation. I have pulled some serious cable with that stuff. The 2500 stuff is great, but you can also get it higher rated, the cost goes up as the rating goes up, if you go on ebay you will find tons of it,...

You did not say what your application of the wire was for. But this might work for you.
Try looking at mule tape, it comes in several strengths, is cheep too.

Re: Lag screws vs everything else...
I'm looking to use lag screws this year to secure a 20' tall structure. I'm concerned that a single 1/2" x 18" screw might not be sufficient for the wind loading so I'd like to somehow use several screws on each guy line (3" ratchet straps with a breaking strain of 5400lbs). Anyone have any good su...

Re: Lag screws vs everything else...
would it be a total fucking disaster if i used 12" bolts? i've got a 12x12 shade structure and i'm planning to put 2 at each corner (plus 4 - 8 regular tent stakes at the base of my structure that go through loops in the canopy cover.) i can hardly justify spending $50 - $80 on 8 14" bolts, let alo...
