Are you still recruiting 2 more drivers?
Thank you for responding but no, we are not bringing Zhina to the playa this year.

Re: Looking for two gas powered post drivers

Just for archival reason and maybe to help someone with the same question. This worked almost perfectly for us. We installed 43 12' tall 2"SCH40 steel pipes 3' into the playa with great Percision and most came out pretty square and level. It wasn't easy but totally doable. I think we were driving po...

Looking for two gas powered post drivers

A small group of us are bringing an art installation to the playa this year called Zhina (https://zhinaart.com). We need a couple of gas powered post drivers to drive 1.5" pipes (OD 1.9") to pound 60 12' posts 3' deep in the playa. We don't have enough money to buy two new ones at around $1500 each ...

Access to a tube roller in the Bay Area?

Does anyone know of a tube roller in the Bay Area I could use to roll a couple of prototype tubes (1 1/4" sch10 or 20 steel tube)? Finalizing steel selection on the ribs for an art project and want to do a sample roll to prototype before committing.

Cheers,
Morteza

But seriously if with this clarification you still believe this is going to be a challenging job with 62 columns, I really love to hear about it. I just wanted to make sure it was clear what I am planning on doing.

Re: Does anyone have experience driving steel posts into the playa?

if you wanted increase lateral stability, you might also consider welding a plate on each post, so it would be a little sub surface after being driven in, and orient it perpendicular to the load. It will increase the surface area dramatically in the upper, softer layers of the playa. Excellent sugg...

Re: Does anyone have experience driving steel posts into the playa?

unjonharley & Token, just to be very clear, I am talking about using a gas powered post driver rated for 3" pipes with a 2" adapter to fit over my 1.9" OD pipes, not the manual heavy pipe with a handle type. https://www.calwestrentals.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Post-Driver-Gass-1.jpg Titan Post ...

Re: Does anyone have experience driving steel posts into the playa?

Just in case anyone is interested in the result of this query, here is an update: Tracked and got a change to have a quick chat with Sarge. He felt what we are thinking of doing is pretty straightforward and doable. He gave me a few things to think about, one of which was don't go to the playa with ...

Thanks for all the info. I have been talking to the ASS team and they have been very helpful and amazingly responsive. I guess part of the problem is solved, 3' it is  I will follow up with Sarge, thanks a lot for the link and info. Really been hoping to find someone that has done this before a...

Re: Does anyone have experience driving steel posts into the playa?

Thanks for the quick reply. I am planning on using schedule 40, 1-5/8” or 1-7/8 steel pipes that are 14’ tall (stick above playa about 10’ at the end). Planning on using a gas powered post driver to put them in and a high jack and chain to pull them out. We have 62 of these so a fair bit of work. Bu...

Does anyone have experience driving steel posts into the playa?

That time of year again... Working on an art installation that is calling for 62 posts to be installed. I started by having base plates and anchoring but quickly gave up. I am leaving toward using a post driver to drive 1 5/8" such 40 posts 4' into the playa. Does anyone have experience with a simil...

Looking for someone to help perform a surprise vow renewal

Hi folks, This year is our 20th anniversary and my wife's first burn. I am planning a surprise vow renewal at the burn for us. Given it is a surprise and she won't be able to prepare, doing our own words is not really an option. I am am hoping to connect with some witty poet/speaker to perform the c...

LOST GoPro Hero4 Silver

Hello everyone, I lost my GoPro Hero4 Silver the night of burn sometimes around midnight'ish. It was attached to a black tri-fold GoPro selfie stick. Unfortunately I got it just before I headed up to the playa and never got a chance to write my contact info in it. It should have a 32G or 16G memory ...
