Re: Little girl's off-rail industrial hand car
In theory you're right. But in actual practice, it's a trick that works great, taught to me by an almost 60 year old friend of mine who has been a pro welder since he was 18. I never said it wouldn't work, I questioned the safeness of it. You're increasing the resistance of your circuit by choking ...

Re: Little girl's off-rail industrial hand car
One of my tricks, if you're using a wire feed like that on thin metal, sometimes it's easier if you plug the machine in through an extension cord, to intentionally reduce power. Not sure if you're joking, but this is not a good idea. Your welder will attempt to draw the same current, no matter what...

Re: Transporting a Giant Art sculpture
I trailered my mutant vehicle over 5000 miles round trip this past year on a 18' utility trailer. Fully deployed, it's 2 stories tall and 18' wide. As others have suggested make it modular, I spent 3 months working in CAD before I struck an arc on my welder. Before I left, I made sure my trailers br...

Re: Extending Electric Mutant Range Using On-Board Generator
I'm not sure if you have the generator on hand already but, why not take the $1000-2000 and buy a gas powered cart, then transfer the mutation onto that. Generator -> charger -> batteries/motor seems rather inefficient, prone to failure and would take up a good bit of real estate on a golf cart.

Re: Detroit entrepreneur looking for camp
Yes sir, i do recall those now. I brought the large steel flowers that were in VIP, kitty corner to that area. They're now installed at the lincoln street art park. Am not attending this year, I have much work to do on the mutant vehicle I'm bringing out to the playa. My go big or go home mentality,...

Re: A request from Gears and Beers
I changed to a 120v miller wire feed gas shield for the burn. Are you welding in a tent or running a higher volume of argon? I've had shielding gas issues while welding near my roll up door, or even with a fan blowing nearby in the past. I was planning on bringing my Lincoln weldanpower out because...

Try searching for building supplies, you'll get a better price than from HD or lowes. You'll get an even better price if you can somehow get contractor pricing. A quick search turned up this place that may or may not have what you're looking for, give em a shout. http://www.washoebuildingsupply.com ...

Re: Parachute Shade Structure?
I wish I had some better photos of our structure, I can only find the two below. Hopefully they'll convey what I put together. I used a 30' cargo chute, built into a tensegrity style structure. For the uprights, I used 3/4" schedule 40 pipe with 1" flat washers welded up top for eyelets to mount the...
