Re: Miniature Flame Poofer

Discreetness is key here. I want to scare the shit out of people and surprise them, yet remain somewhat anonymous. No pilot light no large flame, just a loud displacement and a nice blue-ish yellow jet flash. POW!! I think I may need ether. I'm sure my campmate could have turned down the amount of ...

Re: Transporting a Giant Art sculpture

I don't know what the name of this sculpture was, but it was in line in front of me at the commercial tire place in Sparks, loaded on a tractor-dual-flatbed-trailer rig (don't know which tire they had to have fixed, but they probably drove over some jerk's abandoned tent stake or rebar like I did du...

Was the local government still charging him property taxes on the land? That should have been a clear claim: either admit I have title to my land, or tell the local government to stop taxing me on it.

Re: Black Rock City Transit Authority? Act now!

Hey, what about the Jankytown bus? It's mutated, but it's still street legal and had a license plate. It better be, because it was in line in front of me at the commercial tire place in Sparks after Burning Man, moving under its own power (not a tow truck), when we were both getting our tires fixed....

Re: Miniature Flame Poofer

This year I ended up strapping a motorcycle exhaust to my bike and it looked pretty bad-ass. So much so that I had many compliments and people taking pictures of it. People would often ask, "Does it work?" Which I would reply, "Hell yes it does." It didn't do anything but hang there, but I didn't w...

Yep, I can believe that one camp on 6:30 & K got dinged, as that's where one of my tires got punctured during Exodus. Arrgh. Thankfully, it was a slow leak, so I made it safely to Reno, and was able to notice it was low in time to pump it back up and find a tire place to replace it.

Re: Seeking 2015 Georeferenced Aerial Photo

Uh, did any of the pilots or skydivers working out of the BRC airport get any suitable pictures? Seeing the city background in many of the pictures of skydivers would seem to imply it's possible to use an airplane to get a picture of the whole city, rather than depending on satellite photos. Since t...

How ineffectual were you being? Not very. The people who were asking for directions, I was able to assist quite well. Of course, I'd been working on city mapping software for two months prior, so I was quite conversant with the city layout for a mere burgin. Thankfully, no one asked me to resolve a...

faux rangering....

Although it was totally unintentional, I apparently was a Faux Black Rock Ranger this year. Just because I was wearing khakis and a Tilley camp hat, and was carrying a radio (heck, at one time I was carrying four radios), people kept stopping me to ask for directions or help as if I was a Ranger. Th...

That's pretty cool! But what happened to Pluto? I've heard that to put things in perspectives, using a basketball as the sun, the earth would be the size of a pea, over 300' away. That's about correct. The city of Ithaca, NY, has a display like that, and Earth is a city block or so away from the Su...

My thanks to the Barbiebarians as well. It was great to actually be able to meet all you folks. I kind of clammed up, because I didn't know what to say besides "Hi". And my scotch was a poor second to Doc's absinthe. But it was a good time regardless.

As a former burgin, I'd have to say the dust this year was annoying, but not as bad as the few windstorms. Getting woken up Thursday morning pre-event with people screaming about this was disturbing: http://www.ka2ddo.org/2015BurningMan/20150829_073840_t.jpg That was one seriously out-of-control geo...

Re: VHF HAM 2 Way Radios

I monitored the MURS 5 channel at times, and it stayed mostly quiet, but was used by others on several occasions to report items such as medical calls and gray/black water spills and they got a fast reply from BRC 911. I think it is a good idea that should continue at BRC. I tried calling on MURS 5...

It sounds like overwork on the poor volunteers. Though the folks at BRC3PO (3 o'clock plaza) seemed to be having more fun than those at the central post office. I just never mailed anything because I couldn't find my stamps in the chaos back in camp, and those were nice postcards they had to mail ba...

Another vote for lag screws. I was a real popular dude in camp because I brought a box of 3/8x14" lag screws, some chain link pieces, and a cordless impact driver. I didn't need them myself (if anything was going to blow a 16-ton motor home over, we would be in deep ****), but everyone in my camp wa...

Good thread, Silas. I'd like to add to your comments with a few of my own. The fools, er, uh, people looking to fill their RV with roommates I believe are trying to offset their rental cost, as well as most likely being unfamiliar with RVs. There's no fucking way in hell I'd invite strangers to stay in a rented RV that I was liable for. And since that also gives the total...

The myth of "room in an RV"

I've been reading the many posts of people looking for room in an RV, or willing to share room in an RV. Where is this mystical "room" coming from?
