Re: Rest In Peace
I haven't checked in in a while, but just wanted to update that I got a new puppy and kitten after losing Wallace last year. I found Bruce trapped in my trashcan outside when he was on his first week out exploring as a kitten. I ended up getting Zora from the pound on Black Friday. They are now best...

Re: Rest In Peace
My dog Wallace escaped from my yard yesterday and got hit by a car and didn't make it. I was able to get him to an emergency vet, but his internal injuries were too severe and he had about an hour left from when he got hit. I just wish I was able to spend that whole hour comforting him, it took almo...

Re: Music that thankfully never makes it to the playa
I bought an mp3 player that would run off an sd card for the Burn, which I loaded up with a bunch of my favorite music of all kinds. I figured out later that it wouldn't play randomly, and only played in order of the albums I added. Every time I needed to skip a track I had to hold down the button f...

Re: Law Enforcement in 2105
I got a speeding ticket Tuesday night from Elko county in Nevada which is pretty rural on the way to Salt Lake City. The cop got me at the bottom of the valley between two mountains doing 88 in a 75. For the most part, the van had very little acceleration going up hill, so building up some speed was...

Re: So, how dusty was it?
I planned on giving out hundreds of dust masks when there, but most people out and about all had shemaghs or were covered up with bandanas. I ended up giving a couple boxes to camps nearby and brought most of them home. When it comes to white out conditions and your lungs, you need a dust mask under...

Re: stuff i learned on or first burn
So first off, thanks to all the people here who prepare everyone for the first burn. This place is a wealth of knowledge that makes the burn easier for everyone around. The playa is a test of survival and preparation. It takes immense amounts of effort from everyone involved to make a city that func...
Re: Trash
I do wish I had chosen a different pass on this one, but it is too late to change what has been done. It was a large empty dumpster, but that is not much of an excuse, it just wasn't left out for someone to clean up later like in the picture shown. It would have been unsafe traveling with it for lon...
Re: Trash
What are the best options for disposing of trash after the burn? I had to ratchet strap mine onto a tarp on top of the van when leaving Monday night after 2am. We ended up finding a near empty dumpster in Reno Tuesday, but tried to make sure it was nowhere near capacity away from the hotels and ther...

Re: Food/Drink: What worked - what didnt
70 lbs of dry ice kept drumsticks mostly frozen until about Friday. That worked well for blowing some neighbors minds. I ended up having some frozen ice bottles left in that cooler 2 weeks after leaving which allowed me to eat the small portion of seafood etouffee I had in there when I got back home...

Re: best kind of beer for the playa?
The beer cart came out great. I made it to the last stop on the homebrew pub crawl Tuesday and hung out there for a while. I guess there was another homebrew crawl on Wednesday also, but I didn't know about it. I ended up killing my kegs of citra saison, lemon lime hefeweizen, and grape soda. I went...

Re: cooling your tent or van
The beericooler worked great. I didn't end up setting up my hexayurt until Thursday after arriving Monday night around 8pm and having to deal with the dust on Tuesday and Wednesday. I set the beericooler to blow in the tent under the costco carport during the afternoon and that made sleeping on thos...

Re: cooling your tent or van
The Beericooler is complete. I will probably add a handle up top, but everything is snug and mostly airtight and it seems to work like a champ. Now I will mate it up with the hexayurt panel and cut a hole this evening. http://s15.postimg.org/4bubrt3jv/IMG_0494.jpg http://s15.postimg.org/7wq7b183f/IM...

Re: 2015 one item a day for BM list..
Sleep. I really need some. I doubt that will happen though since I need to finish a couple more items on the swamp cooler, then cutting holes in the yurt for vents and doors, setup the costco carport, make another shelf, finish packing, and a bunch of smaller items on the list. I gave up on panic mo...

Re: Silly question about charging marine batteries
What should we be looking for on battery charges using a multimeter? Will that tell us the level of charge? Also, should I just leave it hooked up to the HF trickle charger until I leave, or do I need to pull it off there so it doesn't overcharge. The only thing mine has been used for is about 15 mi...

In general, your tape may peel off from what I have read. Pull it out and see if it looks good. Does the bifilament tape peel off? Then it may need to be cleaned. The aluminum edge tape should be on there permanently. Someone with more experience can chime in.

Re: cooling your tent or van
I was thinking it could vacuum the water up the tube at first, but that was not correct. After thinking about it, I will probably just make a little plate to set in the water with the float switch and pump attached. Having a method to jump start it could be an option, but I would rather just flick a...

Re: cooling your tent or van
I am almost done with my over engineered beericooler. I was hoping to install the pump on the upper half of my cooler so it could be removable for transport with a suction line into the reservoir. But I guess the pump doesn't run unless it is under water or has water in it when it turns on. I may se...

Re: HexaYurts
Noted. I do plan on having the cutouts ready to plug up whenever needed. Windows may not be necessary, but seemed like an easy idea. Keeping them small will be the best bet. Would Stucco tape hold the 10 x 20 air filter or wall cut outs in place if I am not around? I just ordered some stucco tape to...

Re: HexaYurts
Still need to cut windows, vents and doors. Most likely this evening. My hexayurt is danger hinged at the moment. On the door, I was thinking of a portal, in the shape of a capital D turned on its side, with a slight angle at the top connection and a mild 6"radius or so at the bottom edges. Probably...

Re: 2015 one item a day for BM list..
Beer cart is almost ready. Still need to add another ring of insulation for the keg. Will need to decorate it if I have time and add some lights. As long as there is space in the van I will fit it. Also, built a shelf and coat rack for the hexayurt. Tomorrow will be finish the swamp cooler and hexay...

This is a 2-3" deep pool of sadness. I removed the kegs yesterday, but still have to clean this up tonight. Been way too busy to deal with it this week. This has happened on at least 4 occasions, but usually 2 gallons or less. RIP Bill Murray The Elder. You will be reborn soon enough, just not out o...

Re: Bike rack help!!
I am looking into a bike rack for my cargo van rental. Are there any that will work with double swinging doors? The van looks like this and the back doors are almost totally flat. I was hoping to avoid cramming the bikes in there, but have no idea what bike rack to buy at the moment. I doubt it will...

Re: floor covering - rugs? foam mats? bones of the dead???
Billboard vinyl for the win. Clear channel outdoors usually has them for super cheap. It is super durable, easy to grommet, and easy to cut. They are $8 for a 14' x 48' in DFW, but seem to be pricier elsewhere. I bought 2 earlier, but may grab another during lunch today.

Did your tomatoes have a cat face on them? The exterminator site says that the stink bugs feed on fruit. Then the fruit continues to grow but often presents resembling the face of a cat on it. Re: cooling your tent or van
I may use cooler melt water, but am not 100% on that yet. What temperature does the water get to on its own? My assumption is that having the keg in there for a few hours will get it cooler than it would be just sitting in my hexayurt and have it ready to go if I want to have a beer whenever. I may ...

Re: cooling your tent or van
Basically I will install a box on top of the cooler that mates with the lid and there will be a giant hole for the pad to drain into inside (like what it looks like with the keg in there). The bucket shown was just for supporting the vent I had laying around. More work needs to be done, but I plan o...

Those bugs look like the bugs that took over my garden last year, just a different color. They don't present many problems to people, but they do like tomatoes.
Hide your tomatoes.
