Re: Any advice on where to buy Temporary RV Insurance

But... you need to already have car insurance to get a rider. If you live in the city and don't own a car, that's not an option .

Re: Any advice on where to buy Temporary RV Insurance

Hello there. We ended up using Progressive, believe it or not. Except, the trick is, you are "leasing" the RV, not "renting" it. And, you are leasing for an indeterminate amount of time. This is very important ;-). Then, when you're back home, you can cancel a few weeks later and get pro-rated for t...

Re: Advice on open camping?

Thank you @MadMelvina!

Preparing and asking for advice is not the same as worrying, FYI ;-).

We hope to get there early as well, but I don't know how that will work, exactly. Sounds like people line up on the road before the gate opens, even though you're not supposed to.

Re: Advice on open camping?

Everything I read says the playa is a big place, though... so it seems like being on the opposite side of the playa would make it hard to see your friends, no?

Advice on open camping?

Hello all. My group (in an RV) are three newbies and a 3rd-timer. We're well prepared, but I'm searching for some tips on open camping. We're not part of a theme camp. We just arrive at the gate, and then cruise until we find a spot to our liking? And assuming we chat with nearby campers and see if ...

FOUND - Just wanted to say thank you to all who did reply. We found two local burners to join us on the trip! The search for a group to camp with now begins in earnest. Wish us luck!

Re: Looking for 2 people to share RV with @ BM2015

My finace' and I have an RV/vehicle pass and are looking for 2-3 people to share it with us (our friends backed out). We're driving from the San Francisco area. Where are you coming from, exactly? We're easy going, artsy professionals in our late 30's. Will email you...

Re: Best way to protect DSRL camera - Renting?

@Eric - I am going to try to baggie method, thank you for posting the pic. The problem with sealing the bag to the lens hood, though, is that dust will still get into the front elements of the lens. Especially if it's a telescoping lens like the 24-70mm that I might use. I'm going to try w/o the hoo...

@tzatziki - Curious if you decided to give it a go on your own. My finance' and I are in a similar situation, first time burn for us, looking for a group to join. Except we have an RV and our travel partners backed out, so we have to that figure out, too. I'm a Michigan transplant to SF as well.

Re: Couple with RV needs travel partners

We're also starting to think about camps. If anyone has a chill camp and needs a wall from the wind, I think our RV would be up the task.

Couple with RV needs travel partners

My partner and I have tickets for ourselves (only), a vehicle pass, and an RV rental. The other couple that was supposed to go with us may need to back out, because they can't find tickets/afford it, so we are beginning a search for another couple to go with us. We're late 30's/early 40's, working p...

Re: Best way to protect DSRL camera - Renting?

Has anyone actually used a Dicapac, a Tteoobl, or any similar "underwater" bag housings on the playa? I am curious, because the more I think about it, the more I think it would be a horrible solution. There's a big chunk of plastic in front of your lens with those bags, which isn't fixed to your len...

Re: Best way to protect DSRL camera - Renting?

Thanks for posting the ziplock instructions, I like the detail of how they attached the UV filter. Seems decent. AquaPac sounded good, but apparently it doesn't fit my camera. Smaller bodies would be fine, though: http://usstore.aquapac.net/slr-camera-case-uss458.html I feel a bit apprehensive about...

Re: Best way to protect DSRL camera - Renting?

I have shot events professionally (my fav), and I've been dreaming of the chance to capture images at this event for a while now. It's one of my main reasons for attending! I meant to put a "please don't suggest that I take a point-and-shoot instead" disclaimer in my original post, but it probably w...

Best way to protect DSRL camera - Renting?

Hello all. These forums are great, lots of action and helpful people. I'm a Canon 5DMKII owner preparing for my first burn, and I'm an avid event photographer. I've done a fair bit of research about keeping my gear safe and clean, but there doesn't seem to be much consensus on the subject. Some go f...

Re: Any advice on where to buy Temporary RV Insurance

We made a LOT of calls, and annoyingly, the only way to do it seems the partial-kinda-sorta-truth-not-really route... tell them you're buying or renting for 6 months or more, then cancel after BMan. The issue with that is you will pay an early cancellation penalty, so in the end, it could cost a few...

Re: RV Rental Prices for 2015? Yurt?!

Thanks for the replies, keep 'em coming. Though I could do without the advice of where to live, thank you very much :-p. Based on all the nightmare stories I had read about getting tickets over the past few years, I didn't even consider renting an RV before getting tickets. If I were a seasoned burn...

RV Rental Prices for 2015? Yurt?!

Just curious... are RV rental prices crazier this year? This is my (our) first burn. Super excited. My partner and I looking into RV rentals, and the prices seem to be DOUBLE what I expected, after reading up on previous year's prices. It's looking like 5K is the mean now, not including gas and poss...

Re: Any advice on where to buy Temporary RV Insurance

Thank you for the replies so far. We are planning to rent from a private party, not a company, so there is no option to get add-on insurance from the renter. I've talked a number of insurance companies, and so far, they just direct me to someone else, as if I'm asking a bizarre question. No luck so ...
