Re: Hexacopters with video?

Here's what _I_ saw on the playa: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T7wMgtovmAo and here's the result of the drone: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qSzygc49xSs I'm aggravated by the noise those drones make and them flying around in my face; however, the resulting video was great. The harsh reality is th...

Re: Bringing stuff from NYC and self reliance

Hey guys ! I am a French Nobody cares. I really don't know if I should start a camp, so far it is just my wife, a friend and I. That's a camp. There's no need to do more than show up with everything you're going to need. But I live in fucking New York, and bringing all the required gear is going to...

Re: What is your favorite camp infrastructure?

I consider a beacon to be one that exists after the man burns. Double bonus points if it is still there after the temple. Well, that one's easy: make your own beacon. I've got an 18' collapsing pole (maybe for a pool cleaner or painters pole). I asked about such a beacon here on ePlaya, and someone...

Removing rebar

I had a friend ask for help removing a bent rebar. He used my visegrips, but no matter how you turned and twisted and pulled, the rebar would not come out. Someone had lent him a long pry bar, but that did nothing for prying a rebar. I had an inspiration. I clamped the vicegrips on the rebar and pri...

I have a different take on cast iron cookware. I'm old. My mom grew up in the Depression, and my grandmother cooked on a woodburning stove all the time my mother remembered till in the 60s when I remember, using cast iron all those decades. We used cast iron stuff when I was growing up. We kids were...

>SNIP< Regarding the quick rebuild in 2007... No, they don't keep (nor have they ever kept) ten years' worth of men in storage at the ranch. Post-2007, there are likely enough replacement parts kept on hand locally to effect a quick rough version rebuild. But back then it was completely unprecedent...

The permit rules say no blades longer than 10 inches from tip to hilt. See here: https://www.federalregister.gov/articles/2013/07/25/2013-17844/notice-of-temporary-closure-and-temporary-restrictions-of-specific-uses-on-public-lands-for-the#h-20 for the definition of weapons, which includes swords.

You haven't said what frequencies your radios use. I assume you have PMR446: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PMR446 In the United States, 446 MHz is the national simplex calling frequency for the 70 cm band allocated to amateur radio. If you operate on amateur radio frequencies (also called ham radio),...

Re: flat roof canopy

Louise and I used a 10x10 foot flat roof canopy on EMT for years. Ours wasn't home-made, so we had angles with locking screws for the four corners, plus the tension of the bungee cords. We drove rebar in at each of the four uprights and duct-taped the legs to the rebar. We had tarp walls on two side...
