Re: Galvanized Steel Corrosion
Rustoleum makes a spray called "Cold Galvanizing Compound" and it's over 90% zinc. It's great stuff and a big ol' can is about 6 bucks.I've got canopies that have been up 24/7 for over a decade and still no rust.

Re: Burlap over a carport
15 would be great.
I've got a big swamp cooler on my house and it cools it down about 20*F if the humidity is low.Yesterday the high was 103*F outside but inside it never got over 85*F.

Re: Burlap over a carport
Yeah,I'm not sure how much water it would take.I'm sure the evaporation would be really quick out there with the wind and low humidity. However those are perfect conditions for this cooling system as well.In the old days when they came up with this they had a limited choice of building materials so t...

Re: Burlap over a carport
Has anybody ever tried building a desert submarine? It's an evaporative cooling method that's over 100 years old and involves covering sheet metal with burlap and using a drip system to keep the burlap wet.I'm not sure how well it would work with a tarp but there is plenty of wind for the evaporation...

Re: Canopy fittings for multiple size tubings
Some of the Costco canopies have fitting with different sizes but I've never seen them offer for sale by the piece.Technically, you don't need the fitting to be different sizes you only need longer set screws. For instance,I have used 3/4" EMT inside a 1" EMT fitting with no problems. In fact,sometimes...

Re: How to manufacture canopy fittings
You can make it 3 sided or 4 sided but the 4 sided is easier to make.It takes 5 fittings,4 on the ground and one on the crown.First you make 4-90* elbows and then you cut 4 pieces of pipe at 45*.Normally I'll just weld the 45* cut to the top of the elbow but there is a LOT of fill weld.An easier way...

Re: How to manufacture canopy fittings
Thanks guys. Yeah, you can get some good deals online.Just make absolutely sure of your pipe size and pitch angle and you'll be ok. I do plan to make a 4th installment in my video series to cover alternate canopy styles.I see a lot of people here have gone to the monkey huts and yurts. These too can b...

How to manufacture canopy fittings
Hey guys,I've been welding canopy parts for about 15 years and although I've never actually been to BM I've been dealing with burners for about the same amount of time.Anyway,I've got some videos on you tube that go into pretty good detail on how to cut and weld your own parts for a lot less than yo...
