IMG_20150810_182217.jpg thanks for all the great ideas and thoughts and pictures.. Ardman is right> I've been way busy. Here are the internal side frames being glued up an hour ago.. I also now have the side panels cut. Weight is becoming a concern for me.. I am making it extra strong - albeit heav...

Re: Ideal Bike-towed bar cart
Gaminwench - thanks for noticing all those clamps lined up. on one hand I am OCD, on the other I am an engineer and want things to come out as best they can... maybe the combination is good. either way, I hope to see you and the others out on the playa.. we can talk all about tools without the stres...

The double rainbow that appeared as we were setting up was mana from heaven - at that moment he surely should have un...

Re: Ideal Bike-towed bar cart
East Seattle-20150708-00136-1.jpg hey everyone! I'm making progress.... both wheels are now formed. Next I need an axle so I can bore the holes. The axle is likely to be 2" dia oak. My friend Rod tells me oak is better than maple as it holds the grease better. I compared the contact surface area on...

Re: Ideal Bike-towed bar cart
ok ok ok - a picture may be worth thousands of words. here is my test sample for wheels. I plan to use 5/16 plywood, glued together with internal spokes. I expect each wheel to be 4 feet in diameter. Finished wheels will have most of the wood removed and cutout between the spokes, around outer diame...

Re: Ideal Bike-towed bar cart
Mr Ardentum - at 290 lbs your weight projection sounds awfully high - unless of course you are adding the weight of two goddesses, cooler with vodka and ice to the chariot - then yes 290 is about right.

Re: Ideal Bike-towed bar cart
As the aerospace engineer in question here - (actually a mechanical engineer working in aerospace) I now have a renewed commitment to pulling this one off. I really appreciate the support with examples of wooden wheels.. on trojan horse, on trikes and through-out history. My goal is to use only wood...
