Have I been I banned from Burning Man?
Ahoy! Long time no see, ePlaya. I come to you with a weird question. Some rumors started circulating yesterday that have me a bit concerned. Apparently I am (or was?) banned from Burning Man and various other burns. This is news to me. I'm not sure how to go about officially confirming this. Who do ...

I'm gonna blow your mind...
You don't have to idle your vehicle while waiting for exodus to pulse forward. Turn it off. Get out. Socialize with your exodus neighbors.

Tips for a non-burn event exchange program?
I've seen multiple regional burns organize "burner exchange program" events, where they send a participant to another regional burn, often in another country, or bring a participant from afar to their event. I'm part of a non-burn camping festival event community that wants to do something similar. ...

Partying during Early Arrival?
I asked this nine years ago and the common wisdom seemed to contradict the official rules. This year the official site for SAPs says Any person who is on the playa before the event begins should be there to build or work. This is not a time to "get the party started early." [You] must hold onto the ...

Re: Redirecting some energy and efforts for lack of big events for which to build big art and community this year
Three years ago I failed to buy this property in Oregon and instead got a place in MA where I was able to start building a community and hosting events. Sadly we suffered a large fire and that community has dissolved as people moved away. I'm going to be trying again somewhere in the next 3-12 month...

Seeking someone near Gerlach with a day or two for a recon gig
I'm looking to hire someone to drive around on a burn-related recon mission. Maybe a day or two of work. If you're in the Gerlach area with time to kill in the next week or two, I'd like to hear from you.

Road trip Oct 25 SF to Boston by way of LA, Vegas, Santa Fe, Dallas, New Orleans, Nashville, Atlanta, Raleigh, DC, NYC.
https://i.imgur.com/DS3M8GK.png I'm moving back to the east coast. Gonna spend two weeks driving a bus with seats and beds across the country, seeing friends and art, doing nature and tourist stuff, and generally hanging out with whoever else is along for the ride. A few friends and friends of frie...

Re: Redirecting some energy and efforts for lack of big events for which to build big art and community this year
Unfortunately I've given up on this project. We weren't able to find a lender that could give us achievable terms on a mortgage. I hope that someone can buy and do something great with this property. It would make an amazing year round burner community, given the existing activity spaces, residentia...

Re: Redirecting some energy and efforts for lack of big events for which to build big art and community this year
My plan is to buy 200 acres about 30 minutes west of Portland, including an old boarding school. The property has a dozen buildings including 150 bedrooms (mostly dorms, some apartments and houses), a big commercial kitchen and some smaller kitchens, 14k sqft of wood / welding / auto shops, 100k sqf...

Seeking statements about LNT and related topics from property owners where regional burns have happened
I find myself needing to convince a conservation land trust that burners (in general, not a specific existing regional burn event) are not equivalent to the people ruining campsites in national parks. While LNT and playa restoration stories about BRC are easy to find, I'm looking for something less ...

Re: How would you organize a regional burn if part of the land had to be open to the public during the daytime?
My first take would be to encourage 'public Art and installations' in the part that is open during the day; give it a voluntary, strong 'local, family, community' feel. That's definitely part of the plan! Keep any adult related stuff in the 'private area' of the woods and all camping in the open fi...

How would you organize a regional burn if part of the land had to be open to the public during the daytime?
Suppose you wanted to organize an event similar to Transformus, Firefly, Burn in the Forest, or any of the other mostly-wooded regional burns, but the land has a quirk... Most of the forest is open to the public during daylight hours. A small amount of forest and some open field space could be priva...

Re: The Perfect Ticket System
Are you familiar with Arrow's Impossibility Theorem ? It's about voting. There are three traits an ideal voting system should have, and this guy proved it's actually impossible to satisfy all three. Every voting system must give one of them up to achieve the other two. That's the situation here. You...

Re: 2019 Satellite Sunday BRC for finding open camping spots
"Satellite Sunday"
Is it expected/known that someone(s) will be tasking satellites for photos on Sunday each year? I've seen people in the past do things in the dust that they expect to show up on sat photos, but without knowing which day they would be seen.

Re: Advice for spotting scam camps?
Now I know that when future newbs ask the same questions this October, I can just tell them to wait for July before committing, when there will be a lot more (and more reputable) camps recruiting. That would be inaccurate at best, completely wrong at worst. The camps that are still recruiting in Ju...

With an aspect ratio so close to 1:1, I have to ask what drives the rectangle-ness of your plan? You will save a lot of organizational and logistical headaches down the line if you make it 30x30 or 36x36 instead.

Re: Misappropriation and commodification of BM camps
I ran into this crazy rule last year. Because my camp was conceptually affiliated with an off-playa nonprofit of the same name, I was forbidden from seeking people on this forum to join our rideshare (and/or camp with us?). I didn't make a list of all the other "violators" in my arguments with the f...

Re: Updated Vehicle Rules and Protocols at Burning Man
The requirement for working pedals is going to make some of my plans for small electric vehicles harder, but I think I can still manage. I had a technically-a-moped in high school where the pedals were really just a glorified kickstart and legal requirement than a useful option.

But not ok with later refunding those deposits if the camp gets a green moop score?
