Re: Lag screws vs everything else...

I used the 14" lag screws with two links of chain as anchors with ratchet straps to secure a 20x30 shade structure at the 2015 Burn this year. Structure was constructed of 1" EMT conduit in a 10' grid. Top was a single 20'x30' 14 mil silver tarp with grommets every 18". Side panels were 70% UV filte...

Re: 2015 Birgin got a ticket from a 16 year veteran Burner

Okay, am I the only one at 11:00PM tonight with a driveway full of crates and supplies trying to organize and pack smartly? Is it time to panic yet? LOL Working through my to do list. Major things left: Monday: Install new trailer brake controller in RV; Tuesday: Grocery shopping; Wednesday: Load ev...

Re: Fernley to BRC: Elevation changes

Super helpful. Thanks so much for the input. I am driving with little weight from San Francisco to Fernley but am taking on about 3,600 pounds in Fernley, so I will be driving very cautiously. Thirty foot RV towing 14' cargo trailer.

Fernley to BRC: Elevation changes

Fernley and Black Rock City both seem to be approximately the same elevation. Does anyone know if there are significant elevation changes on the route between the two? Steep grades to climb and descend?

Re: RV Shade Structure

Ordered a carton of 50 of the 3/8" x 14" hex head lag screws recommended by Figjam as shade structure stakes. Will use two links of chain (the screw through one) and drive flush with playa with a cordless impact driver leaving one link up as the attach point for ratchet ties. $73 for a carton of the...

Re: 275 gallon water storage crate

My bad, I was figuring 8 pounds per gallon like water rather than 6 pounds per gallon for gas. So, let me just talk about actual gallons. The RV fuel tank is 75 gallons, which does not count in the fuel storage calculations because it is in the vehicle. What I am carrying in an enclosed, steel cargo...

Re: 275 gallon water storage crate

Hi Canoe,

Regarding fuel storage, yes I have read the regs and have prepared to comply with all of them. Thank you for asking that important question.

I also appreciate the link to the Gerlach water source information.

Re: 275 gallon water storage crate

I appreciate all of the good advice. Slightly forward center over the axels is what I was thinking so as to not dramatically increase tongue weight. Was planning to completely fill it to reduce the sloshing issue plus the water is needed in the camp. multiple arrangements are made for grey water dis...

275 gallon water storage crate

You have all seen the 275 gallon water storage cubes with the aluminum frames. I have acquired one that is brand new, never used, and safe for potable water. Does anyone have experience hauling one of these to the playa? I have a 14' enclosed Wells Cargo Roadforce trailer that is rated to haul 7000 ...

Re: Extra RV and generator fuel

I am making those calculations and am being 80 gallons of insurance. It won't go to waste because I can use it on the trip home. Plus, I rotate gas stock at home to keep gas available for disaster preparedness. I put the "radical" in radical self-reliance ... perhaps a bit too much. I like to over p...

Re: RV Shade Structure

Okay, from the pictures and your dimensions, I am deducing that you had 8 splines 5' apart for the 35' length, and each spline was about 36' long (based in the 11.5' radius) or did you just do 40'?

Re: RV Shade Structure

Okay, I have given up the idea of building shade entirely over the RV (too much of a wind sail issue). However, I have come up with another crazy idea that I want to run by those who have more experience. Let me see if I can accurately describe my plan. Using 1" EMT conduit and connectors made for t...

Re: Extra RV and generator fuel

Hey, Token, good tips. I have a mortar mixing trough in my garage (I'm a contractor, so I seem to have one of every tool and two of too many!). Lots of fire extinguishers, too, both for work and my pyrotechnic hobby. I am pulling an enclosed 14 foot Wells Cargo trailer to the playa. Is it acceptable...

It does have an altitude adjustment and it makes a difference. I drove through six states in June and July from as high as 9,000 feet to as low as 9 feet above sea level.

Re: Extra RV and generator fuel

Good idea, Token. It is a 2000 Class A Fleetwood Southwind Storm, 31' motor home with a 464 Chevy Workforce chassis. The generator is an Onan Marquis 5500. Both run on gas from the same common tank. The fuel feed to the generator is higher in the tank so that it cannot run the engine tank dry of fuel.

Hopefully, I will spend as little time as possible in there, just sleeping, eating and the occasional shower. Extra RV and generator fuel

I am traveling to the playa in a 30' motor home and am pulling a 14' enclosed cargo trailer for equipment and camp supplies. The RV has a 75 gallon tank and I will top off in Finley before heading to BRC. The onboard generator runs off of the RV gas tank and has a feature where it will not allow it ...

Re: RV Shade Structure

I know that shading the RV will make a difference in terms of keeping it cooler. However, it seems that the vast majority of RVs at BRC are not shaded. Is it going to make enough of a difference to make it worth the expense or would my money be better spent building a good 12v swamp cooler with a so...
