If my plan executes according to, er, plan, I will be in China next year starting in April and ending when I return to the states for BM2006. Certainly I'll be swinging through Beijing for a few days on my whirlwind tour.
We had a good time. People pitched in to bring people out. DPW provided shade. Hagey made it out for a couple days. The afterburn at his place was toned down. Aside from some extra logistics, things were smooth. Hagey was worn out but recovering when I left on Wednesday.
The hostel made it out to the playa ok. One shade structure was gifted by a private individual and another large one provided by the DPW. The aftermath passed reasonably well, aside from some extra shuttling. No visits from compliance officers or anything by the time I left Wednesday morning. A good...
I was quite pleasantly surprised at the overall quality of music this year. some of the best I heard was at LOTUS, where they had a rugged minimal variety of breaks... The set I fell in with--and (lessons learned #15) spent too much time falling in love with, narrowing my experience--walked out on ...
Thursday afternoon I drove to Reno for a late night pickup at the airport. One the way to the gate, I drove through a properly marked and barricaded construction zone. Hard-hatted and emergency-vested Flag Man informed me that sewer work had closed off Ego, and I would have to detour out. In reflexi...
This was my first burn, and I'm having trouble. It was an emotional and intense week. Then minor disasters before and after the burn at Hagey's hostel kept me fully engaged. Then on the way home from the airport just now I was slammed with Katrina (which I had known about but not had any energy to d...
Phil, that's just the reckless, heat-stroke inducing encouragementalsim I've been waiting for, and my friends are all demanding pictures. How did you know?! Now I'm back where I was yesterday, mulling over the burgundy cummerbund. [This has been an application of BM-STD 5201-B, "Art shall trump comf...
I had just fallen in love with this white polyester suit on ebay, when my weak fashion spider-sense said something about polyester not breathing in the hot sun. Being a virgin from East Coast, I don't know what to think. With an umbrella to block the direct sun, would white polyster wear well when w...
I'm looking at those, too. Attach a black lights and LEDs, then it's rigged for night-running, too. I have never been to Burning Man, so don't trust my opinion further than you can throw a gift horse in between a rock and a hard place, but I done seen pictures! With flimsy decorative parasols! You c...
A backup tent.. good idea. All of my outdoor experience is on the east coast in the shade of the Appalachian Mtn. forests. I like the idea of having backups for worst case scenarios (dust, heat, cold, water), but not bringing them out if nothing goes bad. I decided to come too late to make the remot...
This will be my first year. I plan on camping solo Monday-Thursday. On Thursday I drive back to Reno to pick up a friend from the airport; he is bringing "some kind of tent". Space will be tight for me--I am also flying--so I want minimal shelter. This is an idea that I love: Super Simple No Brainer...

You come and get me if'n that happens and we deliver the appropriate suffering. You bring the honey, I'll bring the fire-ants with lasers attached to their thoraxes.
Okay, Tom, welcome and I'm sure you'll have an intence month--and week. Just rest assured that if you don't treat Fred Hageymon right the fish of the acopolypse will hunt you down and make you suffer. I'm going to be at the wildflower village, not the black rock hostel, but I'll still be on good be...
Hi. I am Tom. A month ago I got a strange text message on my phone, "are you interested in going to BUrning man?". Now I've got plane tickets, an SUV rental, several nights in the non-burning-man Reno hostel on either end of the week, and a terrible fear that the next thirty days will be insane whil...
