Re: cooling your tent or van
Our box cooler ended up working fantastically, with a few adjustments right before we left/on playa. Wanted to share, in case my tweaks/mistakes can help someone in the future. I ended up building a box from plywood. The box was about 25"x25"x9.75" - I used poplar 1x10s for the sides and bottom and ...

Re: cooling your tent or van
The more the merrier when it comes to the air intake. You don't want anything stopping that fan from doing everything it was designed to do. Make sure you get that box good and water proofed. Boat paint, or the roof coating with a finish of spray appliance epoxy has been working well for me. 8) Tha...

Re: cooling your tent or van
Cassie, It won't make any difference except that if you don't run the pad clear to the bottom, you will have the relaxing tinkle tinkle sound of a fountain that may drive you to the porto's more often!!! Thank you so much for the quick response! Regarding the intake area, is there such thing ...

Re: Re:
Hey y'all, finishing up my cooler this weekend, quick question about the size of the pads, do you just want them to cover the intake area or do you want them to go all the way down and rest in the water? Thanks! One more week! :D 8) Last year people tried to make the bucket cooler do more th...

Re: cooling your tent or van
Thank you so much eldergeekaz, I was getting some conflicting info about that. In looking for alligator clips with a long enough cord to run from my car battery to somewhere I can set up the cooler (we live in NYC so this would have to be done on the street), this is what I'm coming up with - cut of...

Re: cooling your tent or van
This is probably a silly question... I am about done constructing my box cooler but currently have no way of testing it since a friend is bringing an extra deep cycle to the playa for me (we're flying). I haven't cut off the cigarette lighter adapter from the endless breeze yet nor have I done anyth...

Re: Box truck shade structure ideas
Ok.. time to start the planning for what I feel is the major gap with the box truck idea: Shade. Every day between 11am-6pm, the truck is borderline uninhabitable due to primarily the heating of the sheet metal roof. The sides of the truck are fiberglass and are not nearly as much of an issue as th...

Re: Using a deep cycle battery - inverters?
Thanks everyone. "Clip the wires to the battery"? - you mean cut off the plugs and strip the wires enough to connect them to the terminals, separately, with ... ? That sounds kind of daunting, and I have no idea how to install a fuse. Otherwise, if I am understanding correctly, I need to connect to ...

Re: Using a deep cycle battery - inverters?
Thanks! Camp has a genny, not planning on using the truck battery unless there is some kind of snafu. Am a little confused about the conflicting info. ;) But it sounds like what I'm talking about boils down to the slight (?) inefficiency of using an inverter I already own and adding less expensive c...

Using a deep cycle battery - inverters?
Eplaya... Long time listener, first time caller. Finally getting to the Playa this year after about 10 years of wistful thinking about it. "Excited" doesn't even begin to cover it. :D Am camping with friends who are experienced burners but I am trying to be as independent as possible. I'll be in a b...
