Re: PVC based shade structure over 10X14 Kodiak tent advice

In the end I used bungie balls to strap the spine to the ribs, but inner tubes will work just fine. I totally backed away from using X and T PVC connectors once I had a couple shatter on me, they are useless. I like the idea of the perimeter rope to mark the locations of the rebar for the ribs!! I r...

Re: ePlaya Meet & Greet 2017!

I will be there as far as I know. I am camping with a theme camp this year instead of solo so I don't yet know the timing of my other obligations. But regardless, I will find a way to get over and see you all again.

Last year was fun but this year will be funner and more bigly! :D

Re: PVC based shade structure over 10X14 Kodiak tent advice

My goodness, I have been away from e-playa for a while. Sorry I didn't reply sooner. My MH was designed for a 10x10 Kodiak not the 10x14. That said, the 10x14 could fit in sideways but that might make the door a little awkward, but not impossible. I actually originally was going to go sideways and t...

Re: End of radical self sufficiency - shift to radical community

Last year was my virgin year and I did not come with a sense of entitlement, I came with a spirit of embracing the culture as much as I could. I arrived early, volunteered with Greeters, helped people with camps and camped solo, gave away my art, and was radically self reliant. I drove myself across...

Re: Monkey Hut question

For connecting a pipe at the end, those X connectors are very fragile and unlike the ribs, you won't have a sleeve to put the end of that pipe into at that joint. The ribs are strong because they go through a wider connecting pipe. You may consider abandoning those X-connectors altogether and just ...

Re: Monkey Hut question

Zig Zag,, and Hooker, how does the alum. tape hold up to folding and or rolling up the covering for packing ? I was actually surprised at how well the aluminum tape held up. Its actually quite thin and, on the roll has a release paper layer to keep it dimensionally stable. I think its thickness (or...

Been learning how to fire spin and my group is hoping to qualify to perform at The Man burn. My first performance with real fire was this past weekend on a frozen lake in Minneapolis. I only caught myself on fire once. Always up for a new challenge!

Hey.... Sorry I have been away for a while. Best covering material in my limited opinion is radiant attic foil. Super light, super strong, super reflective. It comes in 60" roles and though its perforated (to let moisture through in an attic application" rain does not get through. You have to do a l...

Re: ShiftPod or Alien Buffalo tent?

Shiftpods are cute as long as it does not rain. My friend and I tested a Shiftpod and a Kodiak before TTID last year up in the woods of Minnesota. We had a big thunderstorm one night and the Shiftpod had 2 inches of water on the floor in no time. The Kodiak was bone dry. The Shiftpod got returned an...

Re: Population Cap and Exodus 2017

Are you talking about the road heading to the Northwest and then cutting back east again through Oregon instead of through Nevada? That route is definitely a nice "see ya suckas!" as you speed off into a nearly empty highway. That was it exactly. I went from traffic jam city to open highway by just...

Re: Population Cap and Exodus 2017

My friend Ratty gave me some sage wisdom. She told me to turn North at Gerlach, which for me worked out great since I live in Minnesota. I never even had to go into Gerlach and was immediately out of the traffic going 55. O course it didn't help exodus and it was a bit longer around but time wise, i...

Open that thing up MH, if it sat all year it may just be dry. Late to the thread but I bought this set last spring. Full disclosure: I am a fan of Milwaukee power tools. (along with PortaBand and Makita) Now I needed to replace my cordless drills so I was in the market and use them weekly. You can ...

Cool. Were those 18" lags?

It seems the only purpose of the rebar inside the PVC is to stop lateral travel, its not as if there is a lot of vertical force exerted on them.

Re: Drill/Driver and an Impact Driver..... ?

So replace a 3# sledge and vise-grips with all this electric motor junk, spare battery, chargers, power source ... I fail to see the economy of scale for a small/solo camp. But that's me, a 6'5" knuckle dragger with plenty torque in the shoulders to use simple tools. Yea, that thought occurred to m...

Re: Drill/Driver and an Impact Driver..... ?

So If I decide next year to replace all the rebar for my monkey hut with 3/8 x 18" lag screws and won't have the luxury of a generator or compressor, do I need a impact driver or a drill driver? What size drive and how much torque do I need for say, an 18V driver?

Thailand's King Bhumibol Adulyadej , the world's longest-reigning monarch, has died after 70 years as head of state. This makes me sad and it is a very big deal. My Thai friends have been dreading this for years. The Heirs are not capable and the power struggle may be bloody. Everyone refers to him...

"Realize" was a series of ~8 foot poles each with a steel hand welded to the top. There was a little ladder and you'd climb up to it then lay back into the hands. It was remarkably comfortable as all the hands seem to be perfectly placed to support you as you looked up at the beautiful desert sky an...
