Re: Updated Mutant Vehicle Sound Policy

All, Just a thought or two and some facts. The space is HUGE. It is nearly half a mile wide. Currently, there are only 6 vehicles invited for this year that are designated Level 3 sound vehicles. And finally, it's not that the vehicles can ONLY play music there (as erroneously reported elsewhere). I...

Re: Denied! OUch!

All, Often people will bring up the idea that to make a mutant vehicle you have to spend TONS of time/money/effort. I would argue that isn't necessarily the case, however people do NOTICE the major project vehicles more easily than the smaller, simpler ones. Every year there are numerous Mutant Vehi...

Re: So, what the fuck qualifies as a mutant vehicle?

Our experience with DMV was excellent and the Hotties (yes they were!) were helpful. We only had one , eh, curiosity, when I asked a DMV person if he thought our vehicle would pass the night inspection. He said "I'm not supposed to tell you this, but..." and then helped us learn what we might need ...

Re: So, what the fuck qualifies as a mutant vehicle?

A few FYIs from one of the DMV Volunteers, Every year we do hear about vehicles that people question as to their level of mutation. More often than not, these are vehicles that, as someone noted previously in this thread, are either not licensed as Mutant Vehicles, but as Staff, Disabled Vehicles, D...

Re: Party mess on deep playa, art?

Grrrr..... As someone who has also fed tons of folks on the playa (fed 250-550 brunch every day for 5 days back in 1999 at the BLD's Blue Light Bistro communal kitchen) AND who has volunteered for the org (DMV) and just as a longtime burner I am pretty incensed about this. It violates not only the r...

Cameras, Yahoos and drool on the playa floor

Hmmm.... My first year (1994) I took many, many photos. If it was of an individual, I asked first. Not because it was listed in the survival guide (heh, you should SEE what the mailer for burning man was, or rather, wasn't that year), but because sure seemed the right thing to do. Since 1994 I haven...

Your choice

Technomania, Well, if that's the way you feel, that's the way you feel. I probably can't change that...but being the cock-eyed optimist I am, I will give it one more try. Yep, there are more "rules" than there used to be. Yes, there is more bureaucracy than there used to be. Yes, in some ways Burnin...

Assumptions, Clarifications and Suggestions

Technomania, First off, I think in your posts you make some possibly unfair assumptions as to the motivation behind the denial of your permit. From your descriptions of your vehicle, as is, it does not meet the critera for a Mutant Vehicle. That being said, it sounds like the performances that you d...

Food ideas and suggestions from 10 yrs. of Playa cooking

Hey all, Lots of good questions and answers on this thread. I'll chime in here with some links with info and suggestions for Playa cooking and food handling. First off, I've been attending since 1994 and have had lots of time to learn from both my succeses and mistakes as to what works on the playa....
