i had hair down past the middle of my back in 2003 and it was not a very fun experience. i wore it as a ponytail the entire time, only tied at my neck. here's what i ended up doing to mitigate it: 1) brush several times a day, and tuck tail into shirt. i learned on day 1 that the wind was enough to ...

next time, send your villa PedEx. We Can Fold Shit Like You Wouldn't Believe. Also, we'd only pillage it slightly en route.

I didn't mean necessarily ones that were put up as a result of burning man, just that they happened to be on the way for various people. the one i remembered from 2003 was on US93 just east of the hoover dam (well, maybe 30 miles east).

police vehicle searches en route to the playa

hi folks, i was wondering if anyone had the skinny on where the (semi-permanent) roadblocks are set up these days? just in case we had some minor contraband in the car, we'd rather not drive blithely into one that everyone knows about. i heard rumors in 2003 of one coming north from el paso, but tha...

I made a swell vest with Altoids GUM tins...the smaller ones...pop riveted and GOOPed them on as extra pockets. I was thinking about making a Gift Garment, with Altoid pockets all over and each containing a gift- Like a wearable Advent calendar! reminds me of something a campmate did at burning fli...

7 years of taking an motorhome has taught us to leave the shop vac outside while doing the post burn clean=up.. The Playa Dust is so fine it blows past the filter bag... i took a dustbuster last year and it kinda worked. it would at least move the dust from the bed to the floor or something. but th...

Re: extended warranty
It occurred to me that it would also cover playa damage.
at least best buy's digicam warranty does cover (most types of) playa damage. specifically, heat and dust are covered. specifically, water and droppage are not. mine finally got too much dust in after a couple of year...

why's that? seems to work for me, though i try not to use it when the camera's at 115 degrees or anything to prevent massive temperature differential.

Dusty car, parked next to the shade structure? Since you're walking in, I hate to say it but your best choice is probably to buy a hundred disposable AAs. Deep cycle batteries are seriously heavy, and buying one plus an inverter puts you deeper into karma debt for the lead and sulfuric acid, electricity to recharge the deep cycle battery, and t...

brand/model name? number of batteries it charges? amount of time it takes to charge batteries, and what amperage-hours (mAh) are they?

thanks!

best way to recharge AA batteries w/o generator?

so i've got a ton of AA-battery-powered stuff from camera to radios to lights of all descriptions and many of these (lights, radios) will eat a set of batteries every day. being that i hate throwing things away, i have quite a lot of rechargeable NiMH AA batteries (and a decent fast-charger). i also...

so now i know where my tent-shade will face, but i still need to figure out my tent--i like to place the door in the lee of the wind. can someone remind me of the prevailing wind direction (which as i recall was fairly consistent in the same direction last time i was out there?)
