Re: Mist Shower: minimal water use

I have used a garden sprayer the past three years and it does adjust between a spray stream and mist. I bought it at Harbor Freight.

Re: Monday night or Tuesday morning arrival - challenges?

If you are not associated with a placed camp you will be in the “sticks” even if you arrive Saturday night at Midnight. This year I was surprised that there were still open spots on Monday, but they were out around K, and L on the 2:00 side.

Re: EMT Conduit Couplers

You can get straight connectors that should work, but I suggest using some wood to build a low shallow chamber to slip the conduit into. That is what I did this year after dealing with the whole unload everything to get to the conduit the past two years. Two 2x4’s on edge with sections of a couple o...

Re: Water infrastructure for camp showers

A camp that dumps responsibilities on a Birgin is not your friend. Your first Burn is your get acquainted tour. Having some volunteer responsibilities is great. Having lead, planning and sacrificing money and time for key parts of what is supposed to be an established camp is wrong. If the option is...

Re: Best budget tents?

I have had good luck with a Coleman 6 man instant up tent. It is one of the few tents that has a solid fabric roof. With the windows and door zipped up it is good on dust and it takes wind fairly well.

The goggles you reference on EBay are only $3.25. You can risk seeing if they fit for that price.

Re: Need recommendations for goggles that fit over glasses

I use ski goggles that I got at Big 5. Unfortunately, this time of year they can be hard to find. It also depends on the size of the frames on your glasses. I got a new pair of glasses my second year that still fit, but they are pretty tight. If you order through Amazon Prime there is free return, s...

Re: Monkeyhut over shiftpod with aluminet

You may be over thinking this. All you should need is enough clearance to allow air flow. As long as the Monkey Hut is not in contact with the tent there should not be any heat transfer. Just a few inches will provide that.

Re: First Time - Sorry for a lot of questions!

Look for some of the packing lists Burners have assembled for detailed suggestions. Your clothes will not be destroyed, just washed. However, your shoes may not fare as well. The last two years were fairly mild at night but it can get pretty chilly, so layering is likely a good idea. Besides breathi...

It sounds like you need to do a lot of research. Start with tickets. You have missed the main sale and it is an uphill struggle to get a ticket. If you should get a ticket, then there is a wealth of information on what you need on the Playa.

Token may be a little extreme in his statement, but he is likely right. You say you want to learn how to thrive spiritually and emotionally. Burning Man can have a spiritual and emotional impact, but I can’t say that it teaches you how to thrive with them. It is more like throwing you into the deep ...

I agree that the process was excruciating, but our small camp (around 18 people) was more successful than than last two years. Last count was 14 tickets. However, we had to ride out over 2 hours before we connected on at least half of those. I was amazed that we were connecting after that much lapse...

Welcome to Eplaya! Most information for what to expect and how to prepare can be found on the Burning Man web site. Your biggest obstacle is getting tickets. If it is within your budget, the FOMO tickets, while expensive, are your best chance for obtaining tickets. The Main Sale and the OMG Sale are...

Well, ticket info is out and they did cut the number of tickets offered in Main Sale. Between 3,000 fewer Main Sale tickets and 1,000 more in OMG we have 2,000 fewer tickets available. With the cut in the numbers of high price tickets (Now $1,400) there is going to be even more people from the PnP g...

Hostility, transgressions, and prejudice are by far the exception. I have only been twice, but I have mostly encountered very open welcomes. There is so much to see and do that each burner’s experience is unique.

I used a 6 man Coleman tent last year. I was very happy with the quick up feature, and you can do it by yourself. I was also happy with the amount of room. Plenty of space for me and the stuff I wanted with me in the tent. I do suggest some kind of shade over it if you can. It will be cooler ( not c...

Gold Bond lotion for playa hands. it takes several days for it to become noticeable, but watch out for it. I did not suffer playa foot or playa nose, but it seems to affect people differently. And some not at all.

A fellow in our camp came in on the Burner Bus and got the water. He was not impressed with the taste, but the important concern is getting it to where you are camped. Hopefully you can find someone that has a cart to help carry it.

As long as you are not wearing stilettos or golf shoes, drop cloth canvas should stand up pretty well. I used one of the heavy duty tarps from Harbor Freight last year for floor covering with no problems. No significant rain, though.

Another vote for blowing the dust out. I switched the hose to the vent port on my big shop vac and blew dust out of the engine compartment of my vehicles and the rugs we used in our camp. I did use a white vinegar/water mix to clean off the tarps. Used a damp mop approach for around 1,100 sq. ft. of...

Re: Monkey Hut vs Carport vs Other Shade Over Van??

A much less expensive but effective approach is using a large tarp over the van and anchor (stake) the sides out from the van. If there is not a rack on the van to raise the tarp for some air flow, use pool noodles placed across the roof. The air space stops the direct transfer of heat to the roof o...
