Re: Main Sale Ticket Success?!

I agree that the process was excruciating, but our small camp (around 18 people) was more successful than than last two years. Last count was 14 tickets. However, we had to ride out over 2 hours before we connected on at least half of those. I was amazed that we were connecting after that much lapse...

Re: Hi burners! Sending love from Argentina :)

Welcome to Eplaya! Most information for what to expect and how to prepare can be found on the Burning Man web site. Your biggest obstacle is getting tickets. If it is within your budget, the FOMO tickets, while expensive, are your best chance for obtaining tickets. The Main Sale and the OMG Sale are...

Re: Tickets for 2019???

Well, ticket info is out and they did cut the number of tickets offered in Main Sale. Between 3,000 fewer Main Sale tickets and 1,000 more in OMG we have 2,000 fewer tickets available. With the cut in the numbers of high price tickets (Now $1,400) there is going to be even more people from the PnP g...

I am a member of a small informal camp that practices the 10 principles and is self sufficient. We watch out for each other and host a daily Rum Bar. I think there are hundreds of small camps like us, that do not qualify for the Direct Group Sale, but are still contributing and participating. I can ...

Hostility, transgressions, and prejudice are by far the exception. I have only been twice, but I have mostly encountered very open welcomes. There is so much to see and do that each burner’s experience is unique.

Re: Hiya! Nervous Aussie newbie, ready for 2019!

Welcome! We had a Australian camp with us last year and really enjoyed having him in our camp. He came in by Burner Bus and bought water through them. He arranged for a junker bike that he picked up and returned on Playa. He arranged with us for his food. My take away was it can definitely work to c...

Welcome! There is a wealth of information out there, starting with the Burning Man web site. Do your due diligence with all the first timer info they provide and narrow down your questions on how best to get there and thrive. The folks here have a lot to offer, but don’t expect them to reinvent the ...

Re: Pop Up Tents

I used a 6 man Coleman tent last year. I was very happy with the quick up feature, and you can do it by yourself. I was also happy with the amount of room. Plenty of space for me and the stuff I wanted with me in the tent. I do suggest some kind of shade over it if you can. It will be cooler ( not c...

Gold Bond lotion for playa hands. it takes several days for it to become noticeable, but watch out for it. I did not suffer playa foot or playa nose, but it seems to affect people differently. And some not at all.

A fellow in our camp came in on the Burner Bus and got the water. He was not impressed with the taste, but the important concern is getting it to where you are camped. Hopefully you can find someone that has a cart to help carry it.

As long as you are not wearing stilettos or golf shoes, drop cloth canvas should stand up pretty well. I used one of the heavy duty tarps from Harbor Freight last year for floor covering with no problems. No significant rain, though.

Re: Cleaning Playa Gear

Another vote for blowing the dust out. I switched the hose to the vent port on my big shop vac and blew dust out of the engine compartment of my vehicles and the rugs we used in our camp. I did use a white vinegar/water mix to clean off the tarps. Used a damp mop approach for around 1,100 sq. ft. of...

Re: Monkey Hut vs Carport vs Other Shade Over Van??

A much less expensive but effective approach is using a large tarp over the van and anchor (stake) the sides out from the van. If there is not a rack on the van to raise the tarp for some air flow, use pool noodles placed across the roof. The air space stops the direct transfer of heat to the roof o...

We had a poor effort getting into STEP, and with seven different profiled people trying, only one got in within a couple of minutes. Did you do a refresh on your profile while you waited? The button showed up promptly at 12 Pacific Time, but took a screen refresh to get it. (Pacific time being the k...

Re: Volunteering for Burning Man Departments in 2018

This discussion seems to largely categorize BM attendees as a few true believers that do the work and follow the 10 principles and an increasing number of people that expect everything to be provided. My very limited experience (2017 was my first Burn) tells me that there are a lot of people in the ...

Use gorilla wood glue, in stead of straight gorilla glue. The wood glue does not expand and is a good quality wood glue which should last well.

Re: Recommended tent fan

Unfortunately, the ambient temperature last year was over 100 every day. The tarp helps you not go over that, but tents do not realistically cool down. I tried a bucket swamp cooler and it did not do anything. Most of us stayed in the shade, but not in our tents during the day.

If your Colman tent is like mine, the frame is on the outside and should provide the needed space for an air flow under a tarp.

A better investment might be a tarp to go over the tent. If your tent is in direct sun there is not a fan on earth that is going to make you cool.

One other thought on how much to have is where you will be located. We locate out at I and 3:30 and there is definitely less traffic when you are in the outer circles. Have what you can afford, but try and get a feel for the level of traffic too.
