Re: Buying 5 gallon jugs of water in Reno?
Check out Blue Dot Water in Reno. We use them every year to sterilize and fill our 55 gallon drums. I think you can reserve in advance so you can just pull up to their back door and they'll help you load up. Really nice people and very burner friendly.

Re: How? Charging small 12v batteries from my van (without giving them too much juice)
Just get a solar panel and a charge controller. This method would let you charge the second battery without starting the engine. You can usually pick up 50W semi flex marine panels for $100 or less and a cheap 10A charge controller for $20. If this if for the burn or camping in general, I'd suggest ...

Re: How I charged my electric vehicles
Power needs are different for everyone. My fist solar setup probably cost me around $130 using batteries I got for free and gave us enough power to charge phones, cameras and help neighbors charge the same items at Symbiosis and was all we needed. Sometimes you can snag some amazing deals on panels ...

Re: How I charged my electric vehicles
I said solar hasn't yet reached the point of being practical for temporary portable use for anything but small loads, and you came back with "well how could you need more than a few hundred watts". You may do a minimalist camp, I never have. I like to run a big enough A/C to cool my whole rig, not ...

We brought 2x 55 gallon drums of water for 7 people to drink, cook, dish washing and shower. Half our camp was freaking out that we didn't bring enough while 3 of us kept telling them not to worry. arrived on playa Sunday and watched the sun rise while setting up can and Broke down to leave just bef...

Re: How I charged my electric vehicles
As far as cost, a 600W solar panel setup will cost you about $800 for the panels; batteries will cost about $100 a piece depending on how much reserve you want, and then a charge controller or some other setup. That setup will probably run you about as much as the 2000W generator (assuming $1000 fo...

Re: How I charged my electric vehicles
The one thing you mentioned that isn't accurate is that generators are "expensive". Considering the cost, weight and complexity of a solar setup that can deliver a continuous three or four thousand watts, solar hasn't yet gotten anywhere near the point of practicality for temporary portable use, fo...

Re: How I charged my electric vehicles
We ran 3 solar geni's at my camp (all home brew). One was out new 580W setup that successfully ran an AC unit all week. Have you thought of attaching the solar panels directly to your trike and cab ? that way you can always be charging the batteries. You can get a charge controller that supports 36V...

Re: Two virgins from Norway 2018. Help? Is our tent good enough?
We had several members coming in from Hawaii. If you line up a US based camp to join or have US based friends, have all purchases shipped directly to the US and just order via US sites. that will save you a good amount of money I know Hawaii is in the US but it's an island so shipping stuff from the...

Rather happy with the results of my little bucket cooler. Thanks figjam!!! I was able to cool my tent to an acceptable temp when getting ready to head out (not cool enough to sleep but at least not turning into a pool of sweat) and I was able to run the cool air pipe under a fitted sheet on my air b...

So we have a 30x30 flat top canopy with legs every 10 feet. each foot pad will have a 14" lag that goes straight down. We plan to use tie downs every 10 feet along the perimeter going to a Lag so we can have added security. To get the most out of lags on the playa, should be try to get a good 90 deg...

Re: How does one charge 2 deep cycle 12v batteries?
How handy are you? How much space do you have for transport? You could buy a large solar panel, build a frame onto the bike, mount the panel above the bike as a sun blocker roof and use it to charge the batteries. No clue on power consumption but if you want a last minute project that might be a fun...

Re: Flat roof tarp shelter, advice needed.
For those that have built flap top canopies from off the shelf components. Do you drill out a hole in your EMT pipe for the eyelet screw? The connectors have an eyelet screw that holds onto the pipe via pressure. In normal conditions I don't think there would be an issue but burning man isn't exactl...

Re: cooling your tent or van
Legs, don't forget you need to funnel both of those fans into a duct of some kind. The bucket has to sit outside your structure and the duct(s) run into the inside of the structure. Once you do that you can test what the real on-the-ground air output will feel like. I'm planning to build a cover to...

Re: Solar Charge Controller gets HOT
I actually use the original blue charge controller in my little solar geni and it works fine. You may have gotten a bum unit. You can make some DC plug wired to connect your swami to the DC ports on that new one. that would make for easy connect/disconnect. I did that with mine and it works like a c...

Re: cooling your tent or van
Tanks for the input EGAZ. No water in the fans after running it for 2 hours. I have my top ring right between the 2 layers of blue pad so the very top of the pad stays mostly dry. that may be why I get no water in the fans. Also I didn't realize dust would go through the ducacool pad when dry THANKS...

Re: Camp Perimeter Lights - Battery/Solar Powered
Depending on the load the LED light will create you may be able to go with 12V LED string lights and run them off the load output on the solar controller. That will save you from over discharging the battery and if you get the right controller (with a timer setting) you can have the lights turn on w...

Re: 2017: A Solar Odyssey
This is my first time going to the Playa so I'm expecting to produce less power then I normally produce since I'll need to bring down my panel at night (don't want to chance a dust storm while out or asleep) and during heavy wind durning the day. We're planning a 3x100W panel array connected to 3 ba...
